  1. BTW, it's probably been mentioned in this thread somewhere, but where is LaPorta ranked overall as a prospect?? I am not talking about as a Brewer minor leaguer but as a minor leaguer overall?? Top 10?? Prior to the 2008 season (February), he was ranked as the 23rd best prospect in baseball by BA. That has probably gone up considerably since then. For reference sake, the Dodgers' Kershaw was 7th, LaRoche was 31, and Hu was 55.
  2. Jeez Rickie, make a decent throw. Nice to see our wonderful defensive issues have returned today.
  3. Boy, for a great defensive CF, Cameron sure has sucked out there this year.
  4. Just curious, when did LaPorta sign? June 25, 2007, so the one year rule is not applicable.
  5. The article can viewed as an assessment of out team and minor league system, so I don't really think this belongs in the Trades forum While you may be correct, this article was actually already discussed this morning in the Trades forum.
  6. Don't most sellers have a policy that they'll only ship to a confirmed address listed on Paypal? If he didn't update his address there or whatever, I don't see why that should be your fault.
  7. Madtown, what station are you listening to that has Rosenthal?
  8. End, isn't the consensus that his bat is ready now? I can't say, as I know little about the minor leaguers. Yeah, 'not being in the big leagues' is more of a technicality than anything at this point, as if he gets traded to Cleveland, he'll be in the big leagues in 2008.
  9. They might be trying to see if we're bluffing with the 'deadline.' They might figure that if things aren't moving forward, we'd up our offer to close the deal. If Cleveland is trying to call our bluff if they think it is one, I'd go out and grab Maddux for Gwynn/Crabbe and really make Cleveland start to sweat. Melvin is basically bidding against himself at this point The fact that the Dodgers have put together an offer shows that this is completely untrue.
  10. The longer Cleveland waits, the less the offer will be They might be trying to see if we're bluffing with the 'deadline.' They might figure that if things aren't moving forward, we'd up our offer to close the deal.
  11. I am going around to various message boards and it bothers me that fans of other teams think we would be mortgaging our future if we trade away some prospects. BA ranked us the 21st best farm system in the league prior to the season, and as we saw in the Cleveland fan blog linked this morning, that means people are assuming the system is pretty weak.
  12. Haudricourt's latest: http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/07/05/indians-sign-weaver.aspx Basically, nothing new. Brewers are waiting to hear back from Cleveland, and Cleveland is probably trying to drum up some competition for the Brewers.
  13. I am half hoping this all falls apart, as I was looking forward to LaPorta in Milwaukee next year. I don't know if that means you'll see LaPorta in Milwaukee next year. If this falls apart, I'm 99% sure they'll either move LaPorta to a different team for a different SP in the next few weeks, or they'll ship him out this winter in a deal to replace Sheets.
  14. Here is what an Indians fan thinks they should get for CC. He is either overvaluing CC, or undervaluing our players. 2nd line of the 2nd paragraph: The Milwaukee Brewers under the direction of GM Bob Melvin Yay, credibility! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. I honestly don't think they'll give what it takes for a big ticket player like Sabathia. That's probably true, but it also may be why Cleveland hasn't pulled the trigger yet on the Brewers' offer. If they can convince the Dodgers to offer up a guy like Kershaw, I'd put LA right there with the Brewers offer right now. I don't see them doing it either, but Cleveland has another day or so to see if they will or not.
  16. I'd love a deal with LA, since they have a lot of arms, which the Brewers certainly need. And if they've decided they're going to run with DeWitt at 3rd, I'd be happy to take Andy LeRoche off their hands as well.
  17. Then LaPorta replaces Prince and we can contend for years to come. Or, LaPorta comes up and is a huge disappointment like Weeks, making us wish we had gotten something in return for him when his trade value was high. Let's not forget that AA prospects are NEVER sure things. Weeks was supposed to be a superstar.
  18. If that was actually mentioned on the radio (which I doubt), it's nothing more than the station's homerism speculation. That would be a trainwreck of a deal for the Brewers.
  19. If we get him, he better be able to pitch through 8 innings His last 5 starts: 9.0 IP, 8.0 IP, 7.0 IP, 8.0 IP, and 8.0 IP. So, yes.
  20. I don't think the Brewers are as good as their record indicates. And I don't think the Cardinals record are anywhere close to as good as their record indicates. Right now, you've got the Cubs, Cardinals, and Brewers as three teams competing for two playoff spots. Sabathia gives the Brewers a huge leg up on the Cards for the WC.
  21. we couldn't trade laporta in the offseason and none of the other guys had anywhere near the value they have now.. Exactly. Gamel's status has been boosted a ton by his great 08 so far. Salome had some serious issues that his performance is overshadowing (same with Jeffress), and LaPorta couldn't be traded until a couple of weeks ago.
  22. One thing that seems to be lost in the discussion of not wanting to trade our two top guys in Gamel/LaPorta is that due to the positions they play, one of them is redundant unless Gamel can actually stick at 3B, which seems doubtful at best at this point. Even if Fielder leaves, that means one of them plays 1B, and the other is left without a position. I'm not convinced whatsoever that Hart can play CF for an entire season, and if that's the case, that leaves one of Gamel/LaPorta/or Hart without a position on the team, again assuming that Fielder is gone for whatever reason before LaPorta and Gamel come up.
  23. The idea would be that CC would outperform McClung over roughly 10 starts by . . . 1.5 runs allowed per start (just to make up a number). So the team would save 15 runs by having CC. (Or make up another number -- 20 runs, or whatever.) I know that could make a difference, but how much, really? And at what long-term cost? The rough idea is that 10 runs = one extra win. So using say 2 runs over 10 starts = 20 runs saved, for 2 extra wins. But it's not quite that simple, there's also a trickle-down effect- McClung then goes to the bullpen, replacing Mota. If McClung then performs better than Mota by saving say 10 runs as well, then the Brewers have improved by 3 wins. The difference between say 85-86 wins and 88-89 wins is probably the difference between making the playoffs and sitting home in October.
  24. If they can find a way to not give up Gamel or LaPorta in the Sabathia deal, I would turn around and offer one as the centerpiece to get Fuentes.
  25. Green and LaPorta would tick me off. Yeah, it's probably too much. But it'd have CC in a Brewer uniform by Saturday.
