  1. Gagne looked much better today, and looked noticeably more comfortable on the mound (no kicking the dirt, flexing his hand, etc). I'm guessing in Chicago he was just cold as heck and/or his goggles were fogging up. Rivera has really pitched in with the bat so far, but he makes Kendall look like Pudge behind the plate... not good. Great start to the season!
  2. You know in Texas in many places its: Dallas Cowboys Texas/Texas A&M Houston Texans Rangers/Astros Actually, in Texas it's pretty close to: Local High School Cowboys Horns/Aggies Texans Rangers/Astros Should be interesting to see what happens when the Badgers' radio contract comes up for negotiations in coming years....
  3. The Brewers are playing well, but I just wanted to note that today's botched hit and run with Rivera up was my first "What the hell?" moment of the season....
  4. Also, there's the Bobblehead Curse to keep in mind. Prince had a bobble last year as well.
  5. Mota over T-Bow here tells us that either Derrick is hurting, or just how low he is on the pecking order.
  6. Doug is really good at finding decent role players for little or nothing.
  7. "Does Gwynn project to be a viable starting CF in the major leagues?" I guess that depends on the definition of "viable starting CF". Guys like Tom Goodwin and Juan Pierre have been long-time starting CFers in the majors and made tens of millions of dollars while playing worse overall defense than Gwynn (possibly by a large margin).
  8. His dad had almost no power either. Gwynn Sr never slugged under .400 in any of his full seasons in the Majors. I'm not sure if Gwynn Jr will ever be over .400. Meanwhile we all know what Bill Hall is. An overrated, overpaid bust Opinions of Hall were very low when he came up and never all that high on him in the minors, so I think he's already out-produced what was expected of him. I don't see how he can be classified as a 'bust.'
  9. With Crean leaving, MU commit Tyshawn Taylor is seeking to be released from his LOI, per the JS. http://blogs.jsonline.com/muhoops/archive/2008/04/02/taylor-wants-out.aspx
  10. Alou should seriously buy Bartman a beer or something.
  11. Next year, I'll celebrate April Fools Day by going all 'bull in a china shop' with the board settings and random bannings. Sure, it'll cause all kinds of problems and take weeks to clear up, but damn if we won't be able to all look back on it together and laugh. So next year it will be called "Wednesday?" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. Wasn't there a LENGTHY thread a year or so ago here debating Indiana vs. Marquette in basketball program status, or am I remembering wrong? Indiana is still a storied franchise, despite being a mess right now. If Crean can get the ship turned around, he'll be a legend there.
  13. When Fukudome hit a HR, some Cubs fans held Japanese signs "It's just an accident" It corresponds to what Google translate "It's gonna happen", but... Japanese MLB fans burst into laugh. Ha, funny stuff. Thanks for posting that.
  14. Yay for opening day baseball unexpectedly after getting home from work!
  15. Wow, dozens in the crowd were injured by a fireworks mishap before the last event. Did they mention this on the air at all? http://www.wftv.com/news/15748647/detail.html
  16. I mean how could you possibly know if a person who boos is classless? It depends on the situation. I'll practically guarantee that Geoff Jenkins is booed when he comes back to Miller Park later this year, and there's really no way to justify that as being anything other than classless.
  17. One other thing that the article touches on that is probably a valid point is that if WISN picks up the Brewers, they're considerably more likely to devote more on-air time to the Brewers outside of game broadcasts. WTMJ isn't currently bumping programming for anything outside of the games and Powell's pre-game and post-game shows. Having a lengthy WSSP-like pre and post-game show could certainly be doable with a different flagship.
  18. If the Giants picked up a huge chunk of Roberts' salary, I'd probably prefer him to Gwynn for the first 25 games.
  19. I need Memphis to beat Davidson in the Championship game to finish 3rd. I was in first on Thursday.
  20. Nice to see some love for Cinnamon Toast Crunch, which is probably my favorite. I usually buy 2 boxes a week- usually one healthy (Cheerios, Corn Flakes, Rice Chex, Crispix), one more for enjoyment (Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Frosted Mini Wheats).
  21. The issues outstate can be addressed with a contract that welcomes stations rather than excluding them. Yeah, and you'd think that with them actually doing well, there'd definitely be interest from some stations out there to add them.
  22. Id hate to have Boras tell Prince that he is insulted and make the big fella angry at us. I'd think the big fella would get angry at his agent. Prince wasn't happy with his contract, Brewers come back and offer him a lot of guaranteed money (assuming it's a reasonably fair deal), and if Boras isn't interested at all, Prince has only one place to put the blame.
  23. Is there any way around this or is this just the policy on LLeap? It's not a policy, so something must be up. I didn't notice anything out of whack with your permissions over there, so try again tonight, and if it still doesn't work, post here again and let us know.
  24. It'd be a shame for them to move away from 620 AM, since their transmitter is so powerful. I'm not sure what reach WISN has, but I've always enjoyed being able to listen to 620 AM from most places in the state. I know there are issues with the statewide network, but truthfully, how many places in the state that are without an affiliate are able to get WTMJ? Otherwise, you can get the game through a local station and wouldn't need to rely on 620. As the article mentions, the power of the station is less important now a days than some of the other factors.
