  1. That's why I'd imagine there'd be more leaving Milwaukee (Zach Jack or Gwynn). Though I still don't see much that we'd want.
  2. Could the brewers be the third team? If they are, Balfour would be a very small part of a larger deal. And off hand, I really can't think of who we'd be trying to acquire from either of the Sox'.
  3. I figured you'd be happy when you saw this, after all the round and round we did on the prospects for pitchers issue on the trade forum. Not necessarily happy, as I'm not certain this is the most we could have gotten for Inman (or at least a package that he was included in). That said, it does show that perhaps we do over value our own prospects a bit, or at least over estimate the values that they have in trades.
  4. Also, anyone else surprised that we traded prospects to SD, and they didn't include Gwynn?
  5. Definitely a surprise to see the news. I wasn't against trading Inman, but wanted to do it for the likes of Buerhle when available or Dunn. That said, if there's one thing we should have learned by now, it's that our scouting/development guys are pretty darned good at what they do, as we haven't really given up anything that's done much in any of our trades. Heck, just a year ago the board was bemoaning the acquisition of another struggling reliever in Cordero at the expense of both Lee and our #2 position prospect in Nelson Cruz, and we all know how well that ended up working for the Brewers. Not that Inman is going to stink for sure, but the fact that the Brewers were willing to give him up speaks volumes, IMO. I'm largely indifferent, as I think we've got a great chance to win now, and this is clearly an upgrade over Balfour. People here really dislike Yost's use of the pen, and more specifically using inferior relievers in tough situations, so there should be relief that those inferior options are being replaced by better ones. But, it's an upgrade that comes at a serious price. Though Doug hasn't led us wrong via trade yet. Otherwise, I'm happy to see such a negative reaction to the trade, as it's seemingly Doug's secret to success! This is clearly the worst trade ever! Or at least since the Lee trade! Or the Sexson trade! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. I'd say Balfour for a PTBNL is a pretty likely result as well.
  7. Did I miss something? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Freaking Charter..... now I've got 3 days of catching up to do.
  8. You'd have to get the management group pretty liquored up in Seattle to even keep them from hanging up on you after making that offer.
  9. Yeah, Teixeira would be a monster acquisition that wouldn't be a rental. I'd be more than thrilled.
  10. According to Minor League Baseball, Coolbaugh is the first player or coach to die as a result of on-the-field action since Winnipeg's Skeeter Ebnet was hit by a pitch in a 1938 Northern League game. Ebnet was the second minor leaguer to die in two years in the Northern League: George Tkach was hit by a pitch and killed in 1936. So Mike was the first pro player/coach to die since the invention of the batting helmet? Wow.
  11. I agree... I think we're an OF short at this point. While it's history that Jenkins heats up in the 2nd half, it hasn't happened yet, and he's showing signs of slipping into one of his deep funks, considering his plate discipline going to complete crap all of a sudden. At 33, its getting less likely his body will hold up for his 2nd half surges anyway.
  12. Not a good night to pull this garbage.
  13. Not on ESPN.com, Cubs.com, yahoo.com, or ESPN/ESPN's ticker.
  14. I'm watching ESPN and didn't see anything come across the bottom. Other than Belliard's extension and Coolbaugh. Link please?
  15. He only got thrown out by a step, and the catcher double clutched the ball. If he runs full out the whole way, he's safe pretty easily, IMO.
  16. Will Balfour clear waivers though? Probably not, since pitching starved teams like Washington, KC, whomever should take a chance on him and just let him pitch for the next two months. That said, we're long beyond the point where it should matter to the Brewers. We can cover with depth.
  17. Spurling would have been even a more logical choice if Yost was going in that direction because even though he is bad, he has at least done a couple of good things. At this point, I'd imagine the management would probably strongly prefer to get Spurling an outing in a low pressure situation before being thrown into a 1-1 game in the 12th, considering that his psyche probably is fairly stressed at this point and he hasn't pitched in like 10 days.
  18. After the second walk and most certainly after the botched bunt play, you have to pull him. Easier said than done. No one was warming until the 2nd walk.
  19. Does that make it right, in your opinion? Nope. But the vast, vast majority of managers including whoever hypothetically some would replace Yost with would still think so. That said, good thing we didn't trade/DFA/bench Capuano 7-10 days ago, right?! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. Balfour didn't lose this game. Yost did. If Estrada runs out a grounder, we won this game 2 innings ago. And Balfour sucked tonight....again.
  21. Balfour had better be traded by Wednesday for someone who can help the big league team. Yeah, that's not happening. You'd better significantly lower your expectations for the return.
  22. You're right. Why would you want to use your best pitcher in a game-saving situation? 90% or more of managers in baseball don't use Coco there either, so lets not pretend that this is an exclusive Yost mindset.
  23. And offense, you should be ashamed of yourselves as well.
