  1. Oh believe me, I'm a fan and indicated it in the off season thread, as I though he was truly the impact bat they should have pursued rather than Turner. I'd be all-in on him if available.
  2. 9th rounder is South Carolina RHP Brannon Jordan: Jordan starred for two years at Cowley County (Kan.) CC and was drafted in the 31st round by the Rays in 2019. While he can flash a mid-90s fastball and a plus slurve at times, his velocity was down to 88-92 mph for much of this season and he had problems finding the strike zone. He barely uses his changeup and projects more as a reliever than a starter in pro ball.
  3. More info on Raabe: The son of former big leaguer Brian Raabe, Zack batted .463 and led NCAA Division I with 31 hits in 17 games during the shortened 2020 season. He hit .431 in the first month of this season before going into a tailspin and finishing at .315/.407/.532 with six homers in 36 games. Scouts love the righty-swinging Raabe's feel for the barrel and his makeup, but the rest of his tools are fringy and he's limited to second base.
  4. A lot of discussion about him this offseason, and a lot of negativity about him due to his 2020. He's performing so, so well that I'm not sure what you'd need to trade away to get him....
  5. Ethan Murray, SS Duke in the 5th: A .296/.397/.429 hitter with 10 steals this spring, Murray stands out more for his instincts than his physical ability and projects as a utility man at the big league level. He's overly aggressive with a right-handed swing that gets too long and has fringy speed, with his solid arm grading as his lone better than average tool. Beyond the limited info I found above, of note is that he lead a pretty good Duke team in walks.
  6. Kavadas is a player profile I like a lot, but hasn't he basically said he's headed back to ND unless something unexpected happened? I'd think you'd have to go well over slot at this point to have a chance at him. I wasn't aware about him saying he was headed back to ND. “If a great opportunity presents itself here in the next few days, that’s an avenue that I’ll pursue,” he said. “But if a great opportunity doesn’t present itself, I’m lucky enough to have the option to go back to college and compete for a national championship at Notre Dame.” https://www.ndinsider.com/story/sports/2021/07/11/mlb-amateur-draft-next-up-former-notre-dame-standout-niko-kavadas/7885510002/ Obviously, that's a quote to an ND-oriented site, so his definition of 'great opportunity' may in actuality be 'willing to write me a check.' But, as he was largely considered to go in about this range (4th round ish?) that to me means over-slot at this point in time as we move through the 5th+.

  8. Sounds like 'plus changeup' and control may be the Brewers' pitching goals du jour. And in Logan's case, tons of strikeouts, apparently.
  9. "A true freshman, Henderson pitched McLennan (Texas) CC to the second Junior College World Series championship in school history. He took MVP honors at the Series after winning two eight-inning starts, striking out 14 against Florence-Darlington (S.C.) Tech in the first round and 17 against Central Arizona in the finals. That capped a season in which he led all national juco pitchers in strikeouts (169) and innings (97 2/3) while ranking second in strikeout rate (15.6 per nine innings) and third in ERA (1.66). Henderson's out pitch is a plus changeup that arrives in the low 80s with tumble and fade. His fastball sat at 88-92 mph for much of the spring but picked up a couple of ticks of velocity and topped out at 95 at the Junior College World Series, and it dodges barrels thanks to high spin rates that produce plenty of armside run. He also can spin a mid-70s curveball with better shape than power. Though Henderson throws three pitches for strikes and creates deception with a short arm action, he's also an undersized right-hander with no projection remaining. Analytic teams may be more impressed with his fastball than radar guns are, but clubs may want to see how he fares against better competition. He could return to McLennan or follow through on a commitment to Texas A&M if he doesn't sign this summer."
  10. I don't necessarily think you're wrong, but I think that's a risk/reward profile you're willing to live with in the 3rd, vs. 1b as some predicted him to go.
  11. Sometimes the picks you make in earlier rounds DO set up what you do in rounds thereafter....
  12. Yeah, I do find the 'fire Tod' things SOOO interesting when considering we're literally a year after a 2020 draft that was universally hailed as fantastic for the team.
  13. I think you hit on a fair point. I'm certain the past year made it harder to scout HS, and easier to scout the college game. I also think it's a quick way to infuse talent into a system that is limited that will hypothetically move that talent up quickly. Hypothetically, the goal is for guys like Sal and Mitchell to be in the conversation for 26-man spots in just a couple of years, which would aid the Brewers in extending their window.
  14. Yep- as weird as it sounds, with the lab stuff now, velocity IS teachable. It's the exact opposite of 10 years ago, when you drafted hard throwers and prayed that you could teach them control. In this case, I assume his control rating was highly desired by the team and there's an assumption that they may be able to add a few MPH, which seems a reasonable developmental plan.
  15. Agreed completely. Best thing that could happen in this scenario from Milwaukee's perspective is for the Cubs to do a half-hearted sale here vs. getting the haul that they should for the 3-4 guys that could get them a pretty serious return.
  16. This one does make me wonder if they took an arm they liked a bit early for under-slot because they weren't sure he'd make it to their 3rd, which opens them up to go a bit over slot if someone falls to them in the 3rd.
  17. The repetitiveness needs to stop. Seriously, we ban posters here for posting the same things over and over. Make your point and move on.
  18. Based on what I think he was ranked over 100 and a guy that big that doesn't throw hard is hardly an exciting selection. Perfect game had him ranked in the 80's, and the Brewers took him at 51, so no.
  19. Walked more than he struckout in his college career, if I heard correctly.
  20. Sounds like a nice profile to me....
  21. The Marlins have been in on Watson forever. It's very possible they had a deal worked out with him in the unlikely event he made it this far, and that's a luxury the Brewers probably weren't able to match.
  22. Ford is my guy as well, which almost certainly means he won’t be the pick.
  23. I have to agree with this. Rick, you’ve creating a conspiracy out of literally nothing other than your own assumptions. Unless there’s something that actually suggests there’s something to this, I’d suggest moving on at this point.
  24. I've never been able to actually determine if the 'not within the division' stuff is actually true or just the feeling of us fans. Unless i missed one, the last time the brewers made a trade with the Cubs was 16 years ago (Johnson for Ezi) and the Cards 18 years ago (DeJean for 2 PTBNL) We actually keep track of this here: viewtopic.php?p=788773#p788773 Pirates (06/25/21) -- Acquired RHP Jandel Gustave and OF Troy Stokes, Jr. in exchange for C Samuel Escudero Cardinals (07/31/15) -- Acquired OF Malik Collymore in exchange for RHP Jonathan Broxton and cash Reds (05/27/19) -- Acquired cash in exchange for RHP Tristan Archer Cubs (12/08/16) -- Acquired cash in exchange for LHP Caleb Smith I think of relevant note, the Brewers HAVE been on the dumping end of a few deadline-type deals with St. Louis, sending them both Broxton as noted above and Axford.
