  1. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see ESPN sensationalize a story a bit and probably would ask for something of value in return if put in that same situation. Lets wait to get both sides of the story before judging him.
  2. If you think a month-long sample is good enough then fine. In 2005, Kendall played in 150 games, accumulated 601 at bats (quite a few more than last season) and his two best months were September and October where he batted .324 and .333 respectively...maybe Kendall is at his best after being worked like a horse? Now I'll be the first to admit that the numbers I touted are pretty meaningless but hopefully they help you to see how silly it is to look at one month of stats.
  3. I definitely think there's something to this. A chubby, baby face made Helms look lazy. Just as Manny Parra's baby face leads some to believe he's mentally weak.
  4. Actually, Nelson's plate discipline has been pretty bad this year. Currently Nelson and Duffy have almost the same O-Swing% at around 31%. Nelson has been making contact with those bad pitches 61.5% of the time, which probably has resulted in a lot of weakly hit balls for outs. It's hard not to feel bad for the guy. Some bad luck leads to not getting a hit, which leads to pressing at the plate, which leads to some bad at bats. It's kinda snowballed on him, and I think putting pressure on him by adding Catalanotto will only make it worse. Hopefully he can turn it around, but as we saw with Turnbow, sometimes the problems that are in your head are the hardest to address.
  5. You're completely ignoring the fact that players wear down at different rates. If every manager was as robotic as you'd like there would be some players playing tired and others sitting on the bench for no good reason. Nice straw man.
  6. A half season of stats is virtually meaningless. Was he visibly tired in October and September? If so, you may have something, but I didn't see it. Ned Yost isn't a mind reader. Good point.
  7. Melvin isn't going to make personnel moves based on the reaction of fans. It's as simple as that.
  8. You can't honestly believe that Melvin and Co. are gonna make changes because of a bunch of boo birds. If fans want changes, their only realistic option is to stop buying tickets and merchandise. When Attanasio sees ticket and merchandise sales nosedive, he'll make changes.
  9. Yep, I'd bet most weren't booing because they knew Russell Branyan had better splits against righties or because Yost suggested they acquire him (Yost wasn't so widely hated until the Brewers got good). They booed because he made a lot of errors and struck out a lot or just booed because others were.
  10. But even this terrible move wasn't even close to the reason we lost that game. We lost 11-7. Would someone else over Gwynn have meant 4 more runs? That's not even remotely likely. Kendall has proven to be very durable. If he's good to go, he'll play. If he's not the best option behind the plate that's a whole nother matter. And what negative impact on our record, if any did that have? I don't deny that Yost made some bad decisions. What I disagree with is the impact they had on our record. Last year there were frequent measures of how many games Yost had cost us (anywhere from one to a dozen it seems), most of them nonsense. Even with his worst decisions it's debatable or simply not the case that they affected the outcome of games.
  11. And if you add letting Jeff Suppan walk in three runs in one inning to the list, that would be more than one downright stupid move a month for Macha, making him worse than Yost by that reasoning.
  12. Did Janish ever pitch in the minors? How about first major league hit off of a pitcher making his first professional pitching appearance.
  13. No one is gonna admit that they'd criticize Ned if they didn't criticize Macha.
  14. Possibly because he became a star by taking these things?
  15. This would be a good time to get Brad Nelson some playing time, and if the lead is still large late in the game hopefully Corporan gets in.
  16. Very cool, but this is not what I needed with finals approaching.
  17. Ugh, you don't run on Jay Bruce. Especially with nobody out.
  18. Huh? Yost was endlessly bashed for going with the "hot hand" in the lineup. Just search "Yost hot hand."
  19. And now Cameron is shaken up. Good grief, we'll have Corporan in the OF before long.
  20. My thoughts exactly. I was so happy I cried the day the Brewers clinched, and words cannot describe the atmosphere of that first playoff game at Miller Park. Anything less than what CC did wouldn't have been enough to get the Brewers to the playoffs, and there was no one better than CC over that stretch. LaPorta could go on to be a perennial All-Star and I'll still be perfectly fine with the trade.
  21. So what's the over/under on how many more sky-is-falling threads we'll see over the rest of the season?
  22. Leaving the lefty in against a red-hot Mike Cameron = Bad Idea.
  23. 5 for 5 but with no home runs. That's gonna kill his 3TO%.
  24. Beautiful piece of hitting there by Braun. Man, he's dialed in.
  25. Nope, but close. Counsell in for Hardy, Nelson in for Hart, and Kendall remains behind the plate.
