  1. Kendall's good start was more luck than being fresh. A well rested Kendall with Macha as manager isn't going to bat .300 this year.
  2. Gotta love the quote on his Baseball Reference page. That's what they get for building a park on the ocean. --Boyd, after a 1986 Red Sox-Indians game at Cleveland Municipal Stadium (on the shore of Lake Erie) was postponed due to fog.
  3. Bonus if you don't use lighter fluid. A gas grill isn't much different than cooking on the stove with the windows open.
  4. Setting up an antenna is a form of art not easily learned. It takes precision (one slight adjustment can mean gaining or losing multiple stations), persistence (a lot of trial and error), and self control (resisting the urge to snap antenna in half). Fox 11 gave me the most trouble...countless hours adjusting, sleepless nights. One day I found the right set up where all the channels came in. It was glorious...and then my roommate knocked the antenna over. All was lost.
  5. I'd keep Parra and Gallardo together in the rotation for the sole purpose of skipping starts. I like Gallardo first and Parra fifth in the rotation. That way you could set it up where someone like McClung makes two starts, the first for Gallardo and the next for Parra.
  6. I guess admitting his use puts him a step above the creeps who still vehemently deny using PEDs, but he's still a creep. He lied about his use in the past on national TV and I wouldn't be surprised if he's just switched to a substance that can't be tested or isn't tested.
  7. You're not the only one. At the very least I'd like there to some competition for the back end of the rotation. My reasoning is pretty far out there...I think something "clicked" with McClung in the rotation last year. He didn't try to throw the ball through the backstop when he started, and his walk rate went down as a result. I think that McClung and Looper would be similar starters, but Looper is easily the better reliever.
  8. I put Sheets in the same category as Jenkins and hope (but don't expect) that he get's a nice ovation from the crowd when he comes back as well. Both had nice careers here and both passed on opportunities to leave a pretty crappy team here. I'm sure that most people will remember the Ben Sheets that got knocked out of the Cub's game in the 3rd inning, but I try to remember his September duel with Jake Peavy.
  9. I'd be interested in joining a league. I've had teams the past few years but have never done a keeper league. Thanks.
  10. Creed pulling out a three dollar bill was the perfect finish to a good episode. That had me laughing for quite a while.
  11. I've bought used controllers (Super Nintendo) at amazon's marketplace before with no problems.
  12. Class and professionalism exemplified... Thanks for the memories, Jim. This may sound like a broken record, but it's been an absolute pleasure listening to you on the radio. Good luck in Atlanta and wherever your career takes you...the sky's the limit. I'll be looking forward to a mini-reunion on the air when the Brewers come to Atlanta in June.
  13. McClung's short starts were the result of not being stretched out to start more than anything, IMO. His problem wasn't that he was wasting too many pitches, it was that he'd simply wear out by the 5th or 6th inning (a much easier problem to fix). He went over 100 pitches only once. Given the opportunity to get stretched out and follow a consistent schedule, I think he'll do much better in that regard. I'd prefer to keep Villanueva in the pen where he excelled as long as McClung can continue to be a serviceable starter.
  14. If you're anything like me, you'll be broke in college. If you were in to something like graphic design, a Mac would be worth the extra cost, but otherwise, save some money with a PC. Contrary to the snarky commercials, Vista isn't that bad.
  15. Spring, born in May. I love baseball, warmer air, and that smell of mud when the ground starts thawing...spring is great. I don't ice skate, ice fish, or snowmobile...winter sucks.
  16. I'm kinda surprised that it took this long for the tolerance aspect to be brought up because it plays a huge part. When I started drinking 5 beers meant me seeing double and going to bed with the spins. Since then I've gained no weight but have no problem drinking 5 or more beers in a night of beer pong. I feel that an experienced drinker at .08 is probably less dangerous than a first time drinker with a lower BAC or someone on their phone.
  17. I've also been wondering about a late game strategy using bid butler. I monitored a few Wii auctions yesterday and in a few cases (mostly single bidders bidding at around $60 - $80) a bid butler jumped in and seemed to scare off the competition, winning with relatively few bids. Much research will be put in before I even register, much less try this strategy, though.
  18. Yeah, it seems like Prince's attempts at scooping up bad throws are almost always a disaster. I almost think he'd be better off blocking bad throws like a catcher or trying to trap them against himself because he is terrible at swiping at them.
  19. Fantastic work by Doug and co. Hoffman's age is a bit of a concern but he was still effective last year, and a one year deal for a reasonable amount makes it much less risky. This move allows us to use CV in high leverage situations throughout the game rather than just the ninth which would have likely happened if he was named closer. Also by adding another reliever we have the flexibility to move a guy like McClung to the rotation. Finally some good news in what has been a dreary off season for the most part.
  20. No offense, but this holiday is a little...out there.
  21. As long as he's relatively cheap, it would be a solid deal. We could really use some depth in the rotation. Looper provides that and the ability to pitch out of the pen as well.
  22. I just find it difficult to see the downside of these low risk signings. It's not like were building a starting lineup from the scrap heap. We've got a solid core of players, with our only real pressing need being starting pitching, IMO. No one has made a big splash in the starting pitching market other than the Yankees, so I don't see why so many are getting antsy. Building a bullpen and bench from the scrap heap is the way to go. Look at last year's bullpen and bench. Our two big FA signings in the bullpen both fell short of expectations, but we still managed to have an average pen with mainly guys from the scrap heap (Torres, Shouse, Mota, McClung, etc.). Kapler and Branyan were both 6th or 7th tier guys, and they were excellent off the bench.
