  1. He wasn't here very long, but did anyone else have high hopes for Adrian Hernandez after his good spring a few years back?
  2. Marquette looking very impressive on D.
  3. Yeah, looking at my fantasy profile we had 102 players in the group last year. It's about half that this year. Good luck to all. Since trying to use some sort of logic for my picks has gotten me nowhere, I wrote a little program to make my picks for me. We'll see how that goes.
  4. I really hope Macha doesn't get into the habit of calling out players based on ~8 innings. The purpose of spring training is to get guys ready for the regular season and make roster decisions on the fringe players. Villaneuva having a rough spring shouldn't mean he's demoted to being the long man in the pen just like Counsell pounding the ball in spring shouldn't mean he starts the season batting third in the lineup.
  5. I think "Achy Breaky Heart" might do the trick.
  6. I'm not sold on this. Do we even know the value Escobar would have at 2nd defensively? I doubt there are too many cases of defensive wizards like Escobar playing second, because they usually end up at SS. I could see where having Escobar at second would allow Hardy to play in the hole more because Escobar will be able to make plays up the middle. And offensively, the gap between Weeks/Escobar is smaller than Hardy/Escobar.
  7. It's an interesting situation. If we sign Hardy to a long term contract, Escobar's trade value falls because teams know we almost have to trade him. On the other hand, if we trade Escobar at his maximum value before locking up Hardy, Hardy's price goes up because his potential replacement is gone.
  8. I've come to terms with the fact that we can't keep everyone. I think bulding a core around Braun, Hardy, and a pitcher (Gallardo or Parra) for the foreseeable future is the way to go. Things do line up quite well when it comes to giving JJ an extension. He'll reach free agency just as Suppan and Hall come off the books. Trade Escobar for pitching and lock up Hardy.
  9. Gantner gets a lot of recognition for being on the '82 team and in Milwaukee his entire career, but I'd give Mark Loretta the nod at second base.
  10. I know it was against mediocre talent, but Pedro looked pretty good. Methinks his agent will be getting some calls.
  11. If Nelson doesn't make the team I'd bet Jack picks him up in Seattle. I'm sure he'll be looking for some depth behind the oft-injured Branyan.
  12. I was pulling for Gagne to make the team, so this is disappointing. I guess we're lucky these problems arose before the deadline, though. If he opts for surgery it looks like he'll miss the entire season which makes me wonder if he'll try again next spring on a similar contract with a deadline.
  13. "Those mines aren't gonna sweep themselves." Pretty good episode.
  14. Looks like they've finally made a deal. 2 years $45mil.
  15. I don't see the Royals as a legitimate playoff team now or in a couple of years. They should be stocking up on draft picks for when Hosmer and Moustakas are ready, not losing them. Signing players like Meche, Guillen, and now Cruz is just a waste of money.
  16. I think in some cases PowerPoint does more harm than good, specifically in courses where professors provide the students with PowerPoint files. In those courses it seems that more people skip or just zone out because they think they'll just use the PowerPoint as their notes.
  17. If you can afford it, go with the desktop + netbook combo...it's the best of both worlds. You can get a netbook and a decent desktop for around $1000.
  18. I agree that frequent posts of that nature would get annoying but don't think it's been a problem here and don't think it's fair to go to the extent of removing posting privileges when there is nothing regarding those types of posts in the rules of conduct. If BCU had returned in, say a week, the ridicule he would have received from fellow members would have been punishment enough, IMO. Cool, I think you made the right move. The moderation of the site addressing the concerns of it's members is one of the things that makes this place special.

  20. I surely hope he hasn't been formally banned by the moderator involved. If accountability for predictions became the standard here, there wouldn't be many people left. I'd imagine most people here have made some prediction that didn't come true..heck, we've got a bunch of these predictions archived. And if this is just a self imposed ban by BCU, I think a five month exile is enough. Come back home, BCU.

  22. I'm always excited for the first spring training game. Just hearing baseball again gives me hope that winter will eventually come to an end.
  23. I'm also in my third year of college and couldn't agree more. Maybe it's because I go to UW-Oshkosh where I assume a large portion of the student body just goes for the parties, but it's stunning how many (for lack of a better term) idiots are in college. Many just don't seem to grasp the concept of working hard for a grade...that you can't get by with minimal effort like in high school. I know a girl that equates watching some stupid show on MTV with a notebook on her lap to studying and wonders why she's barely carrying a 2.0. Is it ever her fault? Of course not. The professor isn't fair, there should be less emphasis on exams, there should be extra credit, etc. I could go on and on about this as well.
  24. Still could use a few more teams in Rillo's league.
