  1. I feel like we worry about our starting pitching a lot more than the Brewers do.
  2. Unfortunately as we saw during the offseason, corner OF and 1B just aren't that valuable on the trade market right now. Braun as you said is pretty much untradeable, and I just don't see teams giving us back the value that we get from Aguilar and Thames. Santana seems like the most viable trade candidate to me, but it's a catch-22. If he gets hot and pushed his OPS up to around .800, you're probably going to want him in RF daily and be hurting yourself by trading him. If not, his value will continue to drop as teams had concerns about him in the offseason which will look more and more justified. You still might be able to get someone like Dozier for him either way, but I'd feel like we were selling really low on Santana to trade him for any rental not named Manny Machado. If you really want to get value from a position of depth, you could probably get it from bullpen arms. They're in high demand at the deadline, and guys like Albers or Jennings at their current numbers could probably fetch more than you'd think at the deadline, especially considering both are controlled beyond this year. But bullpen depth isn't like 1B/OF depth, can never really have too much pen depth and most likely you'd be dealing with other contenders who want to give up prospects anyway. So to answer the original question I'd say stand pat with the 1B/OF depth, with the exception of Santana being a major piece used to acquire Machado.
  3. Has anyone mentioned that Houser has been sent back down and Barnes called up? Seems like it's been totally overlooked.
  4. 1) Credit where its due, I just saw the Sogard defensive play in the 2nd, and it was not an easy one as well as potentially being a vitally important one in the game. That said. I'm pretty sure Arcia makes the play as well. 2) Seeing Zack Wheeler pitch today you wonder how different our team would be right now if Wilmer Flores hadn't cried...
  5. You could honestly make a fairly reasonable MVP case for any of Cain, Shaw, Jeffress, or Hader depending on what numbers you wanted to use or present. I don't think any of them will win it but you could honestly argue for any of them as candidates.
  6. Good day again for Gatewood, starting to (I hope) turn a corner. A little uneven, but overall successful AA debut for Supak. Ray's strikeout in the 9th was a 13 pitch AB in which he fouled off 9 pitches.
  7. Depends, are the Orioles looking for a quick reload, or a full blown rebuild? If they are looking at a lengthy rebuild I doubt they have any interest in 3rd year players like Davies.
  8. I'd just kind of prefer for the time being that he be used in earlier situations. Like the 7th earlier instead of Logan, and like Briggs said Albers for the 8th and Jeffress for the 9th would have been fine. I'm not trying to say he should never close games, it just bothers me that they seem to have gone inflexible on it again.
  9. CC has been consistent.....when he pitches 2 innings or more (30-40 pitches) he gets 2 days off. They want him fresh for the whole season. People need to get used to it so they don't need to ask every time he doesn't pitch. He also said that there isn't an exact formula to this stuff. I understand that they'd prefer to get him multiple days off in a row, I don't need to "get used to it." I simply asked if they said on the air that he wasn't available.
  10. Did they actually say Hader wasn't available, or are we just assuming? I get that they'd prefer not to use him today but I don't see otherwise why going 2 innings on Friday with a reasonable pitch count would make him for sure unavailable today.
  11. There was no reason to change what they were doing with the pen. None. It was wildly successful and Knebel was just another weapon to add to that arsenal; instead they seem dead set on handing him the 9th again regardless of matchup, situation, and other information.
  12. Really ticked at Counsell right now. You had such a great thing going with this pen when Corey was out. Instead of going forward with the same plan you did everything you could just to automatically make Knebel the 'closer' again. Worse yet you didn't learn from it on Friday when you got burned by it.
  13. Knebel needs to be relegated to earlier situations for now. This pen has been way too good closing out games in his absence to just be automatically granting him his role back. 2 out of the last 3 days now!
  14. What would you do, Jeffress for one more or Knebel for the 9th? I'd stick with Jeffress. That was a pretty quick inning.
  15. Guessing Jeffress for the 8th today, and then either Jeffress or Knebel for the 9th. Don't think they will use Hader unless they absolutely need to, they prefer to give him multiple days off between multi-inning outings.
  16. 2 out clutch hitting, awesome! Great job by the 4-5-6! Great seeing the offense (potentially) bail out bad starting pitching 2 days in a row).
  17. Nice of blue to start Blevins off with a gift strike.
  18. Pretty sure you can't option Logan. He's here on a MLB deal. Bringing him in for a switch hitter was pretty stupid, but I'm also ready for a Logan DFA.
  19. Yeah for sure on the 2B and SS but I don't think you could C is such a minus when Pina is playing ... I said it's a loaded lineup until you get to there. Pina is definitely a hole in the lineup, just not defensively.
  20. Such a loaded lineup until you get to 2B, C, SS. Villar's K rate is getting kind of ridiculous for a player who hits for almost no power. Over 30% last year and this year. Usually when you get to the guys over 30% you're at least getting some pop in return.
  21. Would be nice to be able to take advantage of the overturned call...
  22. You could occasionally do Aguilar at 3rd and Thames at 1st but then you have nowhere to play Shaw and he's every bit the every day guy that Yelich and Cain are. Only other way to work Thames in is to stick him out in LF and move Yelich to RF. Never thought I'd see Thames back in the OF this year but if you want to get all of Thames, Shaw and Aguilar in the lineup on the same day that's the only way.
  23. Thames will and should start vs. RHP. They'll find a way to work both in the lineup as much as possible. I'd say Braun and Santana are at some risk, though. And of course if Thames slumps he'll see more time on the bench as is with Aguilar, too.
  24. Jesus freaking Aguilar, man. What a diamond in the rough.
