  1. Always a plus to have an .091 hitting catcher and pitcher coming up when you get in a jam. Enormous strike zone today.
  2. Come on Yelich. Can't be doing that. Opportunities are likely going to be tough enough to come by as it is today.
  3. Exactly. Which is why Arcia can bat .150 and still be an asset to the team. There's enough offense at other positions. He needs to do better than that, which is why he was sent down in the first place. An elite defender at a prime defensive position can get away with a weaker bat -- you still need to be able to offer SOMETHING. You can't just consistently get away with 2 pitchers in your lineup. We could live with .240/.300/.350/.650, for instance.
  4. Those aren't his numbers. Not sure where you are getting that. He's at. 280/.331/.387/.718
  5. I'm not giving him a free pass. He needs to perform to stay in the rotation. However he's been successful enough the last few years to at least be given until Nelson returns to start showing some rebound signs. If they're not there by then, go ahead and let him figure it out in AAA. But the fact does remain that he's been a very good second half pitcher.
  6. I'm guessing Arcia comes back up. I don't like it, it defeats the purpose of sending him down, but what choice do we have? The alternative is a pretty bad one -- Sogard playing every day. There are two other possibilities: 1) An outside acquisition (somewhat more likely), or 2) Moore or Orf being promoted. Either one would require a 40 man spot to be cleared, which could be accomplished by transferring Franklin to the 60 day DL. Dubon couldn't have picked a worse time to blow out a knee. He'd be playing everyday in Milwaukee by now.
  7. Nope Yeah, not a chance. I love Yelich, but I will probably love 34 year old Yelich much less. Why risk getting burned by the same deal yet again?
  8. I'm as annoyed with Davies as anyone, but here are his career splits: 1st half: .793 OPS against, 1.36 WHIP, 4.56 ERA 2nd half: .676 OPS against, 1.23 WHIP, 3.37 ERA Its frustrating right now, but if history holds true, we are going to want and need that 2nd half Davies down the stretch. He just isn't good for several months out of the gates for whatever reason.
  9. I love how we use Hader, but it feels like a waste when he sits for 4 days in a row.
  10. Move for Saladino will probably be to activate Nick Franklin. Lol.
  11. There cannot possibly be a team in the history of modern major league baseball to be in 1st place in their league at the end of May and also have been shut out double digit times by then. I mean I feel like I don't even need to bother to look that up.
  12. Guessing at this point that this is one of those "we get shutout" games.
  13. Davies is just absolute utter garbage at Miller Park. Has been since the beginning of last season.
  14. Way more than we'd be willing to pay, if Bumgarner became available he would be the #1 target on the block and there would be a massive bidding war for him. No indication that the Giants are looking to sell in the mediocre NL West anyway.
  15. Arcia being demoted, if he doesn't get it together, makes Machado a very obvious fit. The Orioles would definitely like young pitching, and we can definitely beat the Cubs there. Its definitely going to take more than a JD Martinez type offer. How much more, I don't know. I know people are hesitant to give up much for a rental, but this is not like going out and getting Neil Walker last year. Machado is an A+ level superstar and significantly increases your chances of making it to the World Series especially in a tight NL. Another factor is, how much will the hit of what you give up hurt you in the future? Well, even after losing Machado, they could still move forward with Arcia at SS, who would hopefully be a year wiser. They would basically return the entire team that is 35-20 right now and therefore in theory be right back in the mix again next year, hopefully. So there's nothing wrong with that.
  16. Here we go again. Can't disagree with one thing without the dramatics of "you'd think we're below. 500" or "let's get behind him". "Whining" "Complaining" I never said Counsell wasn't doing great. I think he's a great manager, it does mean he is exempt from ever being critiqued. I hope he's here a long time. One can disagree with someone they like on something without it being a big flipping deal. I love my wife, it does not mean I agree with everything she does. You tried to make the argument or larger judgment that Counsell is incapable of making tough decisions based on something as little Braun bringing this up to him rather than him doing it on his own. And yea I'm the one overreacting. So then give examples why you disagree, like you started off doing, instead of dramatically making it about implications that we suck, we're under .500, and we should be grateful and supportive instead of whining and complaining. I think Counsell and Stearns do a fantastic job, but I find the backlash quite over the top sometimes when one might simply disagree or take exception to a single thing they do.
  17. Considering he wasn't that good last year (4.20 ERA, 4.62 FIP, K/9 around 6), and his velocity continues to be down, I would say it's entirely possible that he just isn't anything better than average now. I think Verlander raised expectations for mid 30s veteran starter rentals to unrealistic levels. Only way I see Stearns doing that is if it's a strict salary dump with nothing of value going back and the Rangers picking up the 6M buyout next year.
  18. The guy taken before Arnett was Mike Trout. Doug Melvin hinted that the pick would have been Trout if he had been available. If true, the Yankees signing Mark Texieria cost us Mike Trout. Just in case you needed another reason to hate the Yankees.
  19. The NBA sucks so much.
  20. really strange that there are so many who are not giving Counsell credit. Dont get me wrong, managers are fair game but how he has handled our pitching has been phenomenal. Basically everyone is giving Counsell credit. And Stearns.
  21. it depends where DS wants us to be. If we want to win a ws then we will most certainly have to get an ace. Julyaugust transactions secured ws wins and appearances by either getting an ace (houston verlander) or pen (chapman cubs, miller indians). If DS is thinking ws...and im pretty sure he is, journeymen like Miley isnt who he is banking on. Me thinks we secure an ace. Im almost cedtain. Who is this ace that's going to be available, and what are we going to give up to outbid the field? And we already have our Chapman and Miller quality relievers.
  22. Which is why I expect a move or two like last year and little more. A couple cheap rental/salary dump types that help us but don't gut our farm. I am quite a bit surprised that after Stearns has pretty much defied all of the people who said this rotation wasn't going to be good enough, that there is still this much clamoring for rotation help. David Stearns does not care what the masses think about the rotation and whether it's good enough, and we have gotten to 35-20 by being awfully darn good, and we are still going to add Nelson. Is it possible he won't be the same? Yes, it is, but it's also possible he will. Getting him back certainly will not hurt. While the rotation certainly isn't a strength, the one strength of it is having 3 or 4 guys that can be plugged in back end #3-#5 guys with no real concerns. Let's face it, we are not adding an "Ace" to this roster before October, unless we get lucky with Nelson. We can add more back end #3-#5 guys, but I don't see the point. Sure, you can never have enough pitching, I get that. Everyone else also feels that way which makes it very expensive to acquire, even #2-#3 types -- look what it took to land Quintana last year. I think if we are a postseason team, we will go into October mostly looking the way we do, and doing the things we do best -- pitching out of the pen, playing good D and hopefully mashing. If that's good enough, fantastic. If it's not, that's okay. This season is certainly not a failure if we don't make it to the World Series.
  23. No, I absolutely would not, for several reasons. One, Freddy Peralta is arguably one our best 3 prospects and a lot to give up. Two, Cole Hamels has turned into an extreme flyball pitcher and has a 5.25 FIP. I think he's in for some serious regression and is going to be little more than a big name. And the cherry on top is handcuffing us next year with his bloated salary.
