  1. I really want to believe that Arcia is more than just Alcides Escobar 2.0. I just don't see it. Hope I'm wrong.
  2. I can think of two off the top of my head now lol.
  3. Well Braun's first was a 3 run job I believe. Off the very top of my head I can't think of another one that wasn't solo.
  4. Davies is either lights out or utter garbage every outing. There just isn't much in between for him. Usually you already know by the second inning which one you are getting that day. He's not been good today, and the total run count is much better than it should be. If he can survive this with 5 innings and 2 runs it'll be pretty remarkable.
  5. Santana and/or Braun need to deliver here. Enough is enough with this offense.
  6. And that would be one of Braun's non-strong points defensively.
  7. It will take a lot more than the first two weeks of the season to believe that the Pirates are for real FWIW. I think it was highly tongue in cheek.
  8. Mets are good, but not THIS good. Hopefully they are due for a couple losses.
  9. I've watched video of two of his extra base hits and they were badly misplayed by the outfielders. Trust me, I want him to succeed but am tempering my enthusiasm for a while. I am rooting for Corey Ray to show offensive improvement this season, that would be an encouraging boost to the system. However, even with the hot start in this small sample his strikeout rate currently sits at 30% so far this season. In over 500 plate appearances at High-A last season his strikeout rate was also 31%. That is the biggest area where I would like to see him improve. One of his issues last season appeared to be an inability to catch up to fastballs on the outer half of the plate, so hopefully he has made some swing adjustments in that regard as well. I will be encouraged this year if Ray is able to put the ball in play more often and cut his strikeout rate down below 25%. Man, you guys are huge buzz kills.
  10. Is it too early to get excited about Corey Ray again?
  11. Nicky Delmonico is a guy I will have a hard time ever rooting for.
  12. That’s not the point. My point was that if they were willing to trade such talented prospects I think they should have done it to shore up the biggest hole on the team. Not to add to the biggest strength. That doesn’t mean it was a bad deal or that I don’t like Yelich. I just think it would have been a better idea to target pitching so we didn’t have to go all year relying on guys like Suter, Miley and/or Guerra. Ok, who specifically? Archer? There's no way he's worth more than Yelich IMO. Gray? No way. You're talking 2 years control versus 5, completely different windows. My point is that it's easy to say to use them to shore up the biggest hole, but harder in practice. If the Mets had been shopping Syndergaard, maybe that would have been our priority. But Yelich was a unique opportunity and that opportunity wasn't necessarily there for a pitcher.
  13. I am honestly a little surprised the Marlins didn't get a little more from someone. Not that we didn't pay a good fair amount but there are about 28 other teams that could have used Yelich and his value is significant.
  14. Honest question -- What would stop the Brewers from 'floating' an extra roster spot the entire season by rotating Guerra and Woodruff between AAA and MLB, sending them back down after a start, and calling up the other when a 5th spot is needed, since they would always meet the 10 day down requirement by then. I don't see anything within the rules that would stop them, and by my estimate they could float an extra roster spot the entire season except on the days that they actually need a 5th starter. Also, since each one would only be spending about 20ish days on the active MLB roster in the season, could they negotiate to just pay them both their regular MLB salary anyway (since that's going to be a relatively small amount anyway compared to the overall payroll). I'm just honestly curious as to whether this would be legal.
  15. OPS plummeted to .985 and WAR to 5.2 in his last season as a Yankee at age 39. What a loser.
  16. Definitely 1. Possibly 2. Yelich had just tied it in the 2nd one and we have no way of knowing if we would have won or not, and Braun wouldn't have ever come to the plate if Yelich didn't come through too. I'd give 'em both half a win.
  17. I'm a fairly big critic of Braun and I love Yelich, but this seems like a cherry pick especially considering Yelich is 26. Move Braun's timeline back 2 years to 26-30 for consistency and you add about 6 WAR to that. Braun at 26 had 6 years of cheap control remaining and was roughly about as productive overall to that point as Yelich has been so far in his career, and this was just prior to his 2 best years. He would have been immensely valuable in trade at that time.
  18. Yeah, I'm not even necessarily saying Yelich didn't fill a need. I was more saying we shouldn't be fixated on the mindset of "What are we doing with all these outfielders?"
  19. Who was also DFAd. Only they didn't call it that back then. I honestly had no idea until right now that he finished his career as a player of the Boston Braves.
  20. Ain't no thing for 1920 and 1921 Babe Ruth. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/ruthba01.shtml
  21. This is a fair assessment and I would like to add in the injury concerns had to be scary for the Brewers. The guy is young and had trouble staying on the field. Getting Yelich for him (plus others) could turn out to be a really good deal in the end. Yes, absolutely. I hate to put an injury prone label on anyone so early in their career but those concerns are certainly there with Brinson. I know people hated the idea of using Brinson for a position of non need and passing on a pitcher but Yelich was a tremendous value add. He only even became available because of unusual circumstance, on most teams with his production and contract he would not have been. Think of getting Braun in his prime and what it would have taken. Yelich is not quite that good but close. They couldn't pass it up. Think "best player available" philosophy in a draft, your current needs are not always going to match your needs in a year or two.
  22. I'll be waiting when June 12 comes around and Braun's line is around .270/.330/.800. In case nobody noticed this team as a whole has started the season out absolutely atrocious and save for heroics several times we'd have a really bad record. .800 slugging percentage? That IS heroic.
  23. Brinson has been brutal and was brutal for us last season. I know it's extremely early in his career and he could still turn it around and be a very good player. Or he could end up being roster fodder that floats around the league to whichever team is willing to give him a shot next. It happens. Either way, it does seem that the front office figured that it was either going to be now or never this last off-season for trading Brinson; either you give him the job in CF or unload him while his value was still high. They got Yelich for his value and its hard to argue with that. Yes you could argue that they could have gotten Gray for him, I'd rather have Yelich and his control. It isn't even worth arguing that they could have had Quintana because Eloy Jimenez is and was then worth much more than Brinson. It would have taken some major secondary pieces and even then the White Sox still may have preferred the Cubs' offer.
