  1. Honestly, and this is just my opinion obviously, but Ryan Braun should basically never be day to day. He is chronically injured or playing with some sort of ailment that makes him ineffective. Unless it is literally something that is just precautionary and he could go the next day or the next non-maintenance day, you are better off just putting him on the DL, getting a replacement and hoping to get him back at 100%. I thought that was maybe the case this time since he did hit yesterday but 2 straight days out of the lineup isn't a good sign.
  2. I am really getting frustrated with our roster management. If Braun isn't in the lineup tomorrow he belongs on the DL. And if he goes on the DL it didn't make much sense to PH him yesterday. Same thing with Thames. It's not a good sign that he can't go against a righty starter. If he can't go tomorrow he belongs on the DL. This was a perfect chance to give Thames a full 10 to heal up and give Choi a look because a decision has to be made on him soon anyway. Playing with starters that typically go 4-5 innings and a 23 man roster isn't going to work. We have already needlessly cost ourselves several days of a short bench with Yelich and several days with Pina and we're 2 weeks into the season! Stop managing this roster like the DL is still a 15 day stay.
  3. Some reports have noted his improvement however. http://milwaukee.locals.baseballprospectus.com/2018/01/30/dont-you-forget-about-jacob-nottingham/
  4. Yeah I mean you're not going to get 5 years out of every trade, that was huge with Yelich. But through 2020 is still a good chunk of control.
  5. I don't think of it as a real need, more of a value add like Yelich. Keep adding good young players to the MLB roster and good things will happen. I know people hated giving up what we had to give up for Yelich, but it was a pretty big roster crunch solver on top of getting a great player. We still have more to do, there's no way we can keep everyone that deserves a spot next season.
  6. Except in Milwaukee where "day to day" is actually week to week and they don't mind playing with 22 or 23 man rosters. Pina hasn't played in a week and they haven't brought up a catcher. Ridiculous. 100% right. The whole reason for the 10-day DL is for this reason, yet the team refuses to utilize it. It even took 3-4 days of Yelich sitting out before they decided to DL him. Why have depth and refuse to utilize it? I understand they're playing a guessing game but they're doing a poor job of playing it. As a basic rule I think I would give most guys one day -- if they're not ready to go on day 2, to the DL you go. In most cases if they're even ready on Day 2 they're still not 100% and not as effective as your healthy depth. This 4, 5 days of going 22, 23 guys is ridiculous. If a guy has to wait a few days after healing up to be eligible again, so be it, at least you have capable depth available replacing him. Never should you be in a situation where runs are at a premium and you're letting a pitcher hit with a runner on 3rd when you plan to pull him anyway. That's ridiculous.
  7. It sounds like the Marlins are definitely open to moving Realmuto this year and the Mets went after him in the off-season. Is there any move we could make here that would also help with our upcoming roster crunch? Realmuto for Woodruff, Nottingham, Gatewood and Supak, just spitballing. In the ballpark? Not enough? Realmuto is a tremendous starter and him and Pina would be one of the best defensive combos in the league.
  8. They already need to find spots for all of Ortiz, Medeiros, and Ponce for sure, without even starting on the 'would like to keep' group of Kirby, Herrera, Gatewood, Stokes, Pennington, Perrin, and Supak, and Lara. If Tyrone Taylor ends up having a big year he'll need to be added as well. They simply have neither the time nor luxury of being patient with every single young prospect in the system and add multiple guys to the 40 who are still 2-3 years from the bigs.
  9. I think Hader is probably best suited to be a reliever, but I think it's a valid question and discussion point. I think at this time, he's still lacking that 3rd pitch that could be crucial to success as a starter. If he develops a good change, that could be a game changer. Aside from that, his current value to the pen and what they have for expectations this year will keep them from even considering a change to his role in the near future, IMO.
  10. Remember when the Brewers were in the American League? Bartolo Colon does, because he pitched against them when they were in the AL. He also almost threw a perfect game today.
  11. While you'd like to be patient with Lara and just leave him alone, you almost have to challenge him this year if his success continues. He's already heading for Rule 5 eligibility and you need to figure out if he's worth protecting or not.
  12. That's your bar for a good reliever? Not very realistic. Corey Knebel had a 1.16 WHIP last year. Albers has been fine. Pretty much exactly what we hoped for when we signed him I would think. Yes, he threw a bad 2 strike pitch today.
  13. Pretty solid so far, doesn't walk many, ERA of 2.16, coming into today had a FIP under 2. But sure, if you want to sum him up by one bad pitch.
  14. 1. Who cares what someone who doesn't even like baseball thinks? 2. I don't even know what this means, but that is what spring training is for. 3. Been this way forever, we just happen to have a bunch of guys banged up right now. 4. Maybe so but again this is the way it has always been, same thing for every sport 5. We are having a colder start than average this year, let's calm down. obvious solution is make teams build a roof Allow me to further explain each then: 1. Fans like high quality baseball with smaller DL lists 2 a pitching staff is managed very differently in April than it is 2 months from now - many believe a staff could use more time to develop roles and avoid injuries with an expanded roster 3. The 10 day DL is a relatively new concept and some organizations like MB, as has been noted here by the experts, has struggled managing this and all of the minor injuries these guys end up dealing with early in the season. 4. You don't think change is ever good? just do it because that's the way it always has been done, okay. What other sports play 6-7 days a week? 5. and finally yes we cant control the weather, but MLB can control the schedule. 1. Yeah, don't we all. Injuries aren't going anywhere. 2. I'd rather just see a permanent 26th spot in this era of specialization. Roles and injury changes aren't limited to just April. 3. The 10 day DL replaced the 15; in theory it should be easier to manage injuries, hot harder. 4-5. I don't know what you're proposing -- a 120 game schedule? 100? MLB is never taking that much of a revenue hit. Yes, baseball will always be a long season. You don't want to see MLB in cold weather months, and you don't want to see 6-7 games per week either. How exactly can you get rid of both of those things without a significant cut to the schedule?
  15. Has there been a single game this season aside from yesterday that hasn't been blowout loss, glorious close win or heartbreaking close loss?
  16. 2 strikes on him, and it has to be the cryer Flores. I hate baseball sometimes.
  17. Well, the one thing I would read into it is, I doubt they would be planning to DL him. Wouldn't make much sense to give him a PH and back up his return a day.
  18. Arcia must have been sleeping through the inning until he came up as his approach indicated he had no clue that Gsellman was having a hard time throwing strikes this inning.
  19. Long ways to go but it would be awesome to steal this one and the series. This was one you basically pencil in as a loss.
  20. Man oh man Shaw. Dude can't find the zone, you swing 2-0, you need to do better than an infield popup.
  21. I don't know how good/deep the Mets' pen is, but I figure the fact that Gsellman is already pitching in the 6th can't be a great sign.
  22. Now that looks like a player who hasn't walked this season.
