  1. 2nd half 2017 offense picking up right where it left off.
  2. Why didn't you just watch it over your phone instead of wasting 2 hours of your life on Opening Day?
  3. Might as well have Oliver Drake eventually be the one to lose this game. Only seems right.
  4. Any closer is always a regression candidate. Yeah, true enough, other than the greats like Mariano.
  5. I thought Albers looked good. Spots the corners well. I know ERA is not the greatest stat but it's amazing to me with basically only relievers getting paid that a guy with a 1.62 ERA in 63 appearances last year only landed 2/5.
  6. Lot of pitches for Hader, so who's got the 8th today? Jeffress, Albers, or Barnes?
  7. It took us about 3 seconds into the off-season to send Carlos Torres packing. Oliver Drake somehow not only hangs around all off-season but makes the opening day roster?
  8. Everybody's getting pinched, besides probably Cain and Yelich. People keep looking for the one guy who is going to lose the game of musical chairs here when really they're just all going to lose a little. Braun will lose some, Thames will lose some, Santana will lose some. I know people want to assume if Braun looks good they're just going to slide Thames out and Braun becomes the everyday 1B. Resist the temptation to pencil in Braun for 130-140. We don't want that, it's not in our best interests or his, especially at a new position. If Braun cam give us 50 at 1st and 65 in the OF and 5 at DH of all healthy starts I'll gladly take that instead. By some miracle even if Braun held up for 130-140 starts at 1st you can bet he'd be playing hurt and ineffective at times. Keep him rested frequently and keep him at his best.
  9. Yelich isn't going to start in RF every time we face a RHP. Maybe 30 games or so and even that's too much IMO. Yelich in RF is a waste of his defensive talents.
  10. The problem with using Jennings as a replacement for Logan or Drake is that he's just not really a LOOGY type lefty. I wouldn't have a problem with it if they wanted to try him and go with him over Drake, but I could understand if they aren't interested. He's been effective enough but his FIP trends are worrisome and he really struggles with control at times.
  11. Can you share where you saw the May 15th deadline? I may have missed that update, but the original reports said his two options to void the deal were at the end of Spring Training and on June 15. It was in the latest JSOnline article about him. Down in the last 2-3 paragraphs. https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2018/03/25/surprising-ji-man-choi-has-turned-heads-his-hitting-personality/452758002/
  12. Choi doesn't have an opt out of his Minor League deal until 5/15, so you can avoid making any tough choice on him for another 7 weeks. Easy choice is to keep him stashed at Colorado Springs and see what happens in the meantime. They can send him there and keep all of the other 4 bubble guys (Hoover, Drake, Williams, Aguilar) for now if they keep Woodruff down til April 6th, but it doesn't sound like they're going to do that. I don't know why not, I thought that was the plan and it would buy more time. There's got to be a team out there with a crap bench and a need for Aguilar that could give up some lottery ticket in A ball. If not, I think all 3 relievers make it. That was the original plan as I understood, to go with 8, and Woodruff doesn't really count even though they had talked aboit him in the pen til his 1st start. You've got Braun and Thames that are basically going to eat up every start at 1st, Perez can cover in an emergency and you should have Choi at AAA for depth for now. I just don't see how they fit in a 1B only bat again.
  13. Imagine if Hiura has another great 2018 season in the minors and we gave him this deal at this time next season. Would you do it? It would be highly comparable to this. I agree this may be start to become more common. It's great for the team and a wonderful thing for Kingery to secure his financial future.
  14. Unfortunately they don't even have room for Aguilar much less Choi. Choi's only realistic chance of cracking the roster would be if they surprised us with a Thames trade in a logjam freeing move.
  15. Why? Seriously, why? What did you expect from him? I'm not sad at all, in fact I'm actually sad anyone thought he had anything left to give us. Looking at his past two seasons, it was pretty easy to tell he was signed probably more-so as a favor to him for his previous time he spent with us. I don't think anyone actually expected him to make this team. I thought he had a shot to make the team and I don't think he was signed with any intention to just do him a solid for the past. When they signed him I imagine the intention was that he had a reasonable chance to make the roster if things went well for him. Unfortunately for him things went much better for Hoover. But yeah I don't get why it's sad unless he just means sad from a "He was a very good pitcher for the Brewers and I'm grateful for the great years he gave us" kind of way. Which I can understand. I think Gallardo's Milwaukee legacy probably isn't as appreciated as it should be. Yo is the 2nd best homegrown pitcher of the last 25 years here. Nelson may surpass him at some point but as of right now it's Yo, no doubt. With that said from a business perspective I'm glad we have moved past the need to include a 30 something veteran pitcher on his last legs on every Opening Day roster.
  16. The bummer for Yo is that he didn't really pitch himself out of a job, he just ran into a circumstance where pretty much the entire pen had a very nice spring. It was probably more or less Gallardo vs. Hoover for a spot and Hoover beat him. Either way, he gets half a million dollars for a spring audition so hardly the end of the world for him.
  17. Planned scenario, I'd pencil in Yelich for 145 starts and Cain for 135. Thames can start 120 against RHP at 1st. That's 42 starts at 1st for Braun and 42 for Santana already. If all Yelich's days off come against LHP than Perez gets 17 in left. Cain's 27 off would presumably be against RHP, Braun and Santana both get another 27 starts there bringing them up to 69, another 5 each at DH brings them up to 74, which would put them each around 120 if they split the remainder. There's work to go around without putting Thames out to pasture. This is if every single one of these guys avoids the DL all year which isn't going to happen.
  18. Santana doesn't really seem like their type of player. The reasons they traded him are probably the same reasons they wouldn't be that interested in getting him back. Same with Phillips. Think it had a lot more to do with them just really liking Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers at the time and having to put together a good package to land them.
  19. If Thames continues to hit like he did in spring training, I think he will lose his starting role vs righties very quickly to Braun. I wouldn't pencil him for 110 starts just yet. First it is spring training and secondary I don’t think we see Braun that much out there at 1B with how bad they still think he is. Only reason he will face LHP there is because he crushes it. I’m not so sure they think his bat is worth it against anything else quite yet. Thames will have a really long leash of time before Braun really starts stealing his entire role. Craig Counsell said Ryan Braun will start at 1B against lefties but said this about Eric Thames: "He's going to figure prominently into our offense for sure this year. I don't see Eric losing any playing time in this situation. Nothing's changed for Eric."
  20. Kind of a moot point though as his trade market is a total of 1 team (Dodgers).
  21. Oh crap you're right. Will edit. So if they are keeping Woodruff off the bat and not optioning him til his start, something has to happen with Aguilar before opening day.
