  1. Then you won't be posting here. Listen...everyone: There are two mods here with connections to the Brewers. Legit connections. Both of their sources have told us that HH has no insider info. You are welcome to do with that news what you want but we have kept it under wraps for a while because posting rumors isn't really against board rules. But this has become a circus and a lot of time and effort is made cleaning up the board after an HH rumor is posted. And given what we have heard we asked him to stop doing so. He is free to post here about baseball but we asked him to stop posting rumors. Obviously based on the post above he has chosen not to listen. Now if Cobb signs for 3/42 we will look pretty foolish but that's ok. Edit: but based on what will end up being HH's final post here, it looks like we don't have to worry about looking foolish Thanks for clearing it up. I'm obviously shocked as everyone to learn that there isn't someone present at the table for discussions between Stearns and Arnold who is leaking sensitive information to a friend and continues to do so after said friend continues to leak this info on social media and internet forums. Hopefully in the future when people are politely skeptical about the source of 'inside' information, others will understand the skepticism of some rather than letting gossip rage like a wildfire every time.
  2. Here's how I see it at the moment: Tier 1: Knebel, Hader These guys are obvious locks. Tier 2: Barnes, Albers, Jeffress These guys are obviously not Tier 1 but they're all safe IMO. Tier 3: Williams, Suter, Logan Here is where the bubble starts. My feelings on Williams are known and he deserves a spot. If the organization is interested in not blowing as many late games as we did last year in April/May, we need to avoid getting too cute with 'depth' and prioritize keeping our best arms. Keeping an arm like Drake or Gallardo to stash Williams in the minors because he has an option is not 'depth'. Speaking of Yo I see him missing final cuts and Suter beating him out for swing/long man. I am not crazy about Boone Logan but I assume they are keeping him or Drake so that being the choice I'll take Logan.
  3. What? Goff, sure. Wentz? No way.
  4. Or maybe we just believe in Manny Pina.
  5. I really wish we had AJ Puk instead of Corey Ray.
  6. What is he supposed to do? Way different market for his services than there was in 2016. I doubt the A's were his top choice but he can only take what is offered.
  7. The most fascinating part about Cobb to me is how differently people interpret his value. Some see possible ace upside if he gets his split-change back. Others see anywhere between an unreliable #3-#4 and another Matt Garza. I'm intrigued, much moreso than I am with Lynn, but it's not my money or investment. A lot does seem to depend on whether or not be gets his best pitch back.
  8. Doesn't matter how close you are if you're over on the price. I'm going $1. "What waa the last bid?" I'll bid $2.
  9. It's not player comparison, just market value comparison. Market values are down across the board, all the way up to Darvish and Martinez. The only ones who seemed exempt from this have been late inning relievers. That said, I'm not too concerned with the deal we gave Cain. I agree with the one who said Cain should be the much better value over JD.
  10. Yep, but I feel a lot better about 2/16 for Chacin than I would about 3/38 for Chatwood.
  11. I don't expect him to actively discuss a potentially imminent move, no. I also don't expect him to feel the need to discuss on how many hot stove rumors that have left him completely baffled this offseason if 90% of them haven't been completely made up crap.
  12. Aren’t you tired of this yet? If HH19 nails it, great. We will all crack a beer. But man, just chill a bit. I totally respect everyone's right to believe what they want. I just find it a bit silly that we pine to message board posters for information but when our own GM literally says we have nothing in the works and probably no more big moves coming, we just dismiss it. Myself, I'm a bit tired of the gossip train, between message boards and Twitter these last 2 months have personally felt like baseball's version of the National Enquirer. Stearns has even admitted that things have floated around out there this offseason even more so than in others that have absolutely no basis in fact and just leaves him scratching his head wondering how it even started. Makes me wonder how much of that originated here. We should be better than that. My personal opinion is that Stearns has a lot of faith in Derek Johnson to revive the careers of Miley and Guerra, while he also remains open to adding a starter if the right player becomes available at his price.
  13. Yes the Hosmer move was just baffling. I love Cain and I was definitely in favor of it when we did it - but I assumed at the time we had a plan to solve the OF logjam. Seeing how the market has developed I probably would have rather just done the Yelich deal and invested Cain's 16M a year into some of these bargains.
  14. Know what? There's nothing to know at this point. Maybe that will change in the next few weeks. Could change but Stearns was pretty adamant that at this point he anticipates heading into 2018 with this group. So you not wondering what the 3/42 that HH posted means? No, not really, but I'll certainly tip my hat to him if he ends up calling it.
  15. It's just a perfect storm. Awfully hard to have that kind of foresight in Mid-December. Oh yeah, I get that. I'm just saying, teams that gave out 3-4 year deals for 15M a year back in December who are seeing similar players go for 1 year/5-6M are kicking themselves now.
  16. Know what? There's nothing to know at this point. Maybe that will change in the next few weeks. Could change but Stearns was pretty adamant that at this point he anticipates heading into 2018 with this group.
  17. From what I understand Wilkerson was pretty clear that he wanted to do a few visits before he signed anything and his Green Bay visit went quite well.
  18. I wonder how the Phillies feel right now about giving 20M a year to Carlos Santana.
  19. Chatwood looks like a massive overpay now really. Pretty much anyone who was signed in 2017 looks like a massive overpay now.
  20. Manny Pina is going to be just fine IMO. He performed well enough in the minors that many actually predicted he would perform well as a rookie. He has a nice combo of bat and glove. Not a world beater but should be a solid 2-2.5 WAR catcher for 2-3 more years. Problem is having a serviceable enough backup where Pina only needs to catch 100 games or so.
  21. That's really nothing more than Bowden's opinion, though, it doesn't mean we're the most interested. Personally I think Lynn has too many red flags for Stearns to bite unless his asking price really comes down.
  22. Yes, he was absolutely an elite defender in 2016 which is what I was talking about. He was barely average in 2017 but much of that was from just bad errors, not a lack of range, skill and instincts. I know reviews on his 2017 were pretty mixed but I don't see how it's even debatable that he has the tools to play defense at a high level considering he's done it before.
  23. Value = Worth. Haudricourt said there was more interest in Broxton and people have been discussing his value. I don't believe anybody has said Broxton has more trade value than Santana, just more interest. There are posters who bash Villar and there are posters who believe he could bounce back just like there are posters who treat Broxton (and plenty of others) the same way. I haven't seen too many going out of there way to hate on Villar while praising or expecting great things from Broxton. I'd personally say that both of them have shown flashes but have yet to prove they can sustain it. Hence the reason you have the spectrum of opinions on both. I guess I can't really say that Broxton is going to "bounce back," if he doesn't have anything to bounce back to. He's been good for about a stretch of 2 weeks per season hes been in the big leagues, maybe referring to that? . Not true at all. As I said before in 2016 he was basically our best player after the AS break through the end of the season. He put up a .937 OPS with elite defense as a CFer in the second half. You don't go from a negative WAR to over 2 WAR in less than 250 PAs with 2 good weeks. It's true he unfortunately didn't find that again last year returning from the broken wrist and it's also true he hasn't had much long sustained success at this level but to say he's had a stretch of '2 weeks per season' where he was good is just totally untrue. He was elite in the 2nd half of the 2016 season. Not 'good', elite.
  24. Funny, the thing I remember most is his one career HR. Opposite field bomb into the Brewer bullpen at MP. Ueck was stunned, he didn't do his traditional HR call because he thought it was a routine fly off the bat and couldn't believe how the ball just kept carrying and carrying.
  25. Are we talking about the same Broxton? https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=9253&position=OF You'll notice he was an excellent player in 2016, over 2 WAR in only 244 PAs. Without exaggerating he was our best overall player in 2016 from late July until the end of the season. I wonder why some seem to assume Villar will bounce back, but also assume Broxton just is who he was last year. Broxton probably isn't long for the Brewers any more simply because we're out of room for him now, but he is someone I could easily becoming a 25/25 player with a rebuilding club if he gets a full time gig in CF. If he could cut his K rate even to 30% he could be very good.
