  1. It's too bad Burnes got his AA debut cut short by rain -- He was dealing again.
  2. New method for capturing pitch speeds. Every fastball is up a tick or two. I can swear I remember multiple starts earlier in the year, Cubs for sure, where he was sitting 90-91 tops. Yeah, that's what I mean. I've heard about the new method but Chase seems up a lot more than a tick or two.
  3. Not surprising, part of it is a product of high strikeout teams. Which you'd think would at least also usually put us near the bottom in double plays grounded into, but that's not the case
  4. The idea is good, but you will need more than Cordell fetch a guy like Hand. The guy has been awesome the last year and a half. 1.8 WAR in 2016, 1.2 WAR already this year. I mean, Will Smith got a top 100 prospect for us. If the Padres want to move Hand, they'll get more than that. The main issue will be that all the contending teams will line up for the guy - and you're talking bidding war at that point. Yep. Based on last year's deadline prices for relievers you're probably talking Brinson for Hand straight up to seal the deal, which would just be nuts. I don't think Stearns is in the business of paying market trade prices for high leverage relievers. He's more likely to sell them, even in a contending season. We'll have to develop our own, and we do have numerous guys in the pipeline that fit the profile. Any buying of relievers I think will be limited to maybe a LOOGY, and project guys like Drake that don't come with a big price tag.
  5. Thames: 42 HR, 5.4 WAR Shaw: 27 HR, 108 RBI, 4.5 WAR Santana: 24 HR Broxton: 18 HR, 30 SB Perez: 15 HR, 498 AB Bandy/Pina: 24 HR, 96 RBI Villar: 15 HR, 36 SB Anderson: 12-3, 3.30 ERA, 187K, 188 IP Nelson: 3.83 ERA, 162K This is just for fun, obviously these are just "projections" at this point and no idea which ones will be higher or lower than projected out for a full season after 1/3rd of the way. Some thoughts: - Villar still showing good power and speed. If he could ever get on base again he'd be pretty productive. - That's a really solid catching duo. - Despite no permanent position there has been no trouble finding AB's for Hernan. - Shaw would probably get my vote for most underrated on the team.
  6. Every time I'm ready to throw in the towel on Chase Anderson, he starts getting it together again. He's a different pitcher when that change is working right. And since when does his fastball sit at 95? That's news to me.
  7. Agreed. As much as Brinson has been hurt and the fact that he isn't even the top OFer in Colorado Springs this year there's absolutely no reason to rush him . Broxton is always going to strike out a ton. If he can get that OBP back up to the . 350 range and give us the defense we got from him last year I'm not that concerned with his K rate. He needs to get his walk rate up a bit, but he's still OPSing. 776. He's fine . We don't always need to look for a reason to replace him .
  8. Marty Foster in the Dodgers/Cardinals game making another great argument for machines calling balls and strikes.
  9. Whew. This would have been a really tough one to lose. Way closer than it should have been. Knebel is filthy.
  10. I hope this is sarcastic because every pitch has been called correctly this inning according to gamecast. Yep. Not sure what the point was there.
  11. I knew you were going to do that, but Gameday had them both on the corner. All it has to do is touch it.
  12. Gee, does that really need explaining? Obviously it's human nature to complain more about calls that go against your team than the competition, but I have no problem pointing it out when we benefit from a call as well. Doesn't change the fact that the human called 'strike zone' is extremely flawed and entirely subjective and in 2017 they do have the technology to correct that, making a human called Strike zone a completely obsolete and unnecessary aspect of the game. Games are riding on it. They have Pitch f/x now. It doesn't just need to be a fun tool for viewers anymore. At the very least, it will get to a point where challenges will be allowed on certain key situations like the one we just saw, which will be well worth it even just for the satisfaction of seeing how embarrassingly badly they are missing some of these.
  13. I'm not even watching and just from seeing how far outside it was on Gameday I figured, 'Shaw is going to get tossed on that .'
  14. Meh. I'm ok with Broxton getting a rest day from time to time, I just really don't want to see Franklin on the roster at all. With 3 really good OF options in Colorado Springs and the Super 2 date probably safely passed I'd much rather see a 3rd true outfielder on the roster since we are only carrying 2 at the moment, only one of which is a good defender. Franklin's role on the team is just puzzling to me. We already have 2 jack of all trade utility guys in Perez and Sogard I don't know why we need a 3rd. Plus if Cordell gets the call he can play corner IF as well. I'm not appalled by Franklin's presence on the 25, just don't really understand it and still don't see him surviving the year on it.
  15. I hate to be that guy, but Guerra is going to make for an interesting trade case at the deadline if he keeps it up. He would have almost a year and a half of really fantastic numbers under his belt and you would have to think would fetch a haul at that point, especially with how much cheap control is available . If they think he's playing over his head, they might pull the trigger on an overpay offer. On the other hand, if we're in contention at the end of July, Guerra would likely be a big reason why and trading him could take us right out of contention.
  16. ..........why? The length of the thread? The idea of trading Braun?
  17. Yeah no one hates Sogard. Go on Facebook on a day when he's not in the lineup and it's nothing but 'WHERE IS SOGARD???' If anything I'd say there's a little too much love. The people known as haters are typically just correctly pointing out that Sogard is a veteran MLB journeyman of 1200+ career at-bats who is far more likely to revert to his career norms than he is likely to be having a major career renaissance at age 31.
  18. If you include Higuera you could make a pretty strong case for Ben Sheets as well. Say what you want about the guy but he was the only ace developed out of our system for many, many years.
  19. Unless it is the Dodgers claiming Braun or the Marlins I don't see Braun waiving that no trade clause and not directed at you but in general yes Braun's no trade clause still matters if Braun is placed through waivers as he could refuse to go to that team and the Brewers would then be stuck with Braun or they would have to release him. Yeah, that's why I added if he accepted it. I agree, and we are probably stuck with him.
  20. 9. Cirillo 10. Oglivie I think Cirillo is usually pretty underrated. Guys like Gorman Thomas and especially Jim Gantner get severely overrated.
  21. He will no doubt be placed on August waivers again. I'm hoping he will get healthy and hot before them and get claimed, but most likely he'll clear again. If someone claimed him and he accepted it, I'd let him walk without hesitation .
  22. The Padres just swept the Cubs.
  23. Hey, we scored 11 last time we faced DeGrom. Granted most of that wasn't against him.
