  1. Pretty much can't disagree with any of that. Yep. The Brewers have no leverage with the Dodgers if that is the case. No reason to just give him away either. The fact that he cleared waivers last August is a good indication that we couldn't give him away anyway even if we wanted to.
  2. Thames shouldn't even be in the lineup at all. Have no idea why you don't just DL him when he's clearly fatigued, not healthy and you have good options to replace him in the meantime. There's absolutely no reason that guys need to play through injuries right now with the depth we have, especially when they're not even effective. Phillips is OPSing 1.000 in AAA. Why not being up an actual outfielder for LF, let Aguilar cover 1st and give Thames a much needed break?
  3. Kind of hilarious that the source is literally 'Josh Hader's mom.' It won't be disappointing if he becomes our Andrew Miller. Unfortunately this was always an inevitable possibility with Hader. Hopefully Woodruff, Ortiz, Burnes and Supak will live up to what we hope.
  4. Pretty much can't disagree with any of that.
  5. Position players, take your pick. Any of Brinson, Phillips, Cordell, Cooper, Wren, and DeJesus could come up without me having very much argument about it, though Phillips would be my choice. If they were to DFA Drake and replace him on the 40 and 25 with a player not alresdy on the 40, I'd bet on either Blazek or Wang.
  6. Yeah, the Drake experiment was worthwhile, he had a promising K/9, I get what they saw and hoped he would make it, but it just didn't work out.
  7. So it's still a waste for me to throw away $800 a month of my $4,000/month salary at the strip club if I can still pay my bills? Well shoot .
  8. Well we are currently spending $20M a year on a 0.0 bWAR left fielder who can't stay healthy, so $10M more a year for an ace doesn't seem too bad.
  9. Because none of the guys that will be in the lineup come 2019-2020 will be making any significant amount of money. Along with that, it is a pipe dream that the Brewers go sign a TOR type pitcher, let alone two. This rebuild bodes well for cheap, young players into the 2020's and if Braun is still here, it won't stop them from getting a free agent or two down the line. Why is it s pipe dream? Maybe MA and DS won't go there, but Mark A. has been known in the past to be very aggressive with TOR pitching with the Sabathia and Greinke trades. He tried to extend Sabathia, too. If the Brewers are a contender in 2019 and 2020 and he's got money to spend I think it's possible he at least tests the waters on a top tier starter if he thinks it's a good fit and the market isn't too ridiculous. I'm not saying it'll happen, but I don't think it's totally outside the realm of possibility. And as it relates to Braun that goes back to my previous argument, that maybe Mark A isn't comfortable splurging $30M a year for a TOR starter if the payroll is at $60M, but would if it was at $40M.
  10. How does that work in MiLB with the Sky Sox losing 5-0 when the game was suspended in the 1st yesterday? Do they leave off where they were or is that just wiped out like MLB would with nothing counting from yesterday?
  11. My choice would be to DL Thames. DFA Franklin and Reed to clear space, and bring up Cooper and Wren. Why not Phillips? 52 K's in 148 AB's at AAA. Whoever they brought up won't see a ton of action, so go with the two guys most likely to at least put balls in play vs. major league pitching in a limited role. I'd be fine with a DFA of Franklin and Reed. Sogard is a better version of Franklin. Versatility is great but we don't need 3 guys on the roster that can play anywhere. Reed is buried behind about 10 better OF options, isn't really young enough to be considered much of a prospect and isn't hitting in AA. Not really sure what he is still even doing on the 40. Seems like a prime DFA and try to flip for cash or PTBNL. I'm neutral on Cooper coming up. I'm not crazy about the idea of another 1B only player, assuming he's not going to provide OF depth too. But at some point it would be nice to give him a shot and see if what he's doing in AAA this year is for real. I don't agree on Wren over Phillips. It's hard to justify a singles hitter at a corner OF spot especially when you have 3 legitimate OF prospects in AAA who can get on base just as well. Maverick is going to strike out a lot but he's better than Wren in every other way.
  12. Luis Robert debuted as the #26 overall prospect in baseball. So that provides some good perspective on just exactly how much $50M is worth in those terms, which was the approximate cost to acquire him.
  13. That's a little over the top. He's slumping, but even if his settles into being an .850 OPS player, which he's still way over right now, he'd still have a good contract. Really the beauty of Thames' deal is that he could be a total bust and still not be a disaster for us financially. Thames will be fine IMO. He's not going to be as good as the player we saw in April but he's not as bad as the player we've seen the last week or two. Just could use a little rest right now.
  14. The 40 man roster is full, so they could not do that unless they DFA'ed someone.
  15. Looking very good for being back alone in 1st, Dodgers up 5-0 on the Cubs in the 8th. I know it's really silly to scoreboard watch in May, but every day of the year that the Cubs have to raise that Brewer flag to the top at Wrigley is a good day.
  16. I thought it was pretty questionable and not clear cut. I do think when it's 50/50 like that, when a guy has a no -no in the 5th, you call that an error, pretty crappy of the official scorer to put a no-hitter in his own hands on a 50/50 call. I did find it kind of hilarious though that Ned Yost made a DVD of the play to send into the league to try to get them to overturn it. #1 because the league can't overturn it, only the official scorer can, and #2, like the league doesn't already have access to footage of the play in this century. I picture Selig getting a manilla envelope in the mail straight from Yost with 'CC No Hitter' written in sharpie right on the DVD.
  17. I mentioned this in the game thread but if he's going to be day to day at all just DL him. He's struggling badly and his body isn't used to the MLB grind and length. He could probably use the 10 days and maybe we get him back in his April form rather than the guy who has gone 3 for 32. Meanwhile call up Phillips to get his feet wet in left every day and Aguilar will get regular reps at 1st. I know Braun is already out so you hate to lose Thames' bat too but Thames in his current condition isn't very useful anyway . Sending him to the DL is probably the right move at the moment.
  18. We should have won yesterday and should be up 2-1 in this series, yeah I'm still sore about it. But at least we broke the losing streak, especially considering we had to do it against Greinke. Let's get a split against a very good team tomorrow and go back on the road with something to feel good about.
  19. Actually, no one has any idea what he would do if given the option. Also, imo, no AL team is going to want Braun to play in the field, if he is traded, it will be to DH... Again, these are opinions, so I won't state them as factual. I can't guarantee Braun won't go to the Yankees or Astros, but based on the evidence, his no trade clause, the fact that he says he thinks he will finish his career here, the fact that he says he either wants to be here or out west, I can say the evidence points to it being highly unlikely.
  20. If Neftali spoils a 6-0 lead and this game by Chase he should just be run right out of town.
  21. I see Thames came up gimpy again. If he is going to miss any time at all, I say go ahead and DL him. He hasn't been productive lately anyway and his body isn't used to a full MLB season, I'm sure he could use the break right now. We are already short on the bench with Pina day to day. This could give Aguilar some regular PT at 1st, give someone like Phillips a chance to get their feet wet out here with regular ABs in left, and give Thames a much needed break to hopefully get him back in his early season form.
  22. Anyway, great outing Chase. If we were going to be talking about a no-no in a 6-0 game today I would have bet my house we were talking about Greinke.
