  1. Not a great night for Broxton, misplay on D and came back to strike out on 3 pitches. Not that anybody is hitting tonight but he might get one more shot to redeem himself.
  2. I've been hard on our bullpen as any but it isn't even the worst of this decade. Remember 2012?
  3. Good thing Stearns and Counsell read this board Wily to the pen is long overdue. Hopefully he can salvage his career there.
  4. Well last year we were arguing about why Broxton was losing so many PAs to Nieuwenhuis, this year at least he's playing every day and we're just arguing about where it should be in the lineup, so that's a step in the right direction.
  5. As part of a bigger package sure, but packaged together these guys aren't worth much at all.
  6. Plus, Franklin plays an atrocious LF anyway. I thought Franklin was actually versatile, not Scooter Gennett versatile.
  7. Even if their production were the same (and I think most would concede that Bellinger will likely outproduce Braun the next 4 years), it surprises me how much people overlook the cost control element of trading proven players and prospects. Trade value in its simplest form is nothing more than the surplus value of what a player would get as a free agent weighed against their actual contract. Its part of what has caused difficulties trading Braun -- he'd likely get 4/80 as a free agent right now, but if he exceeded it, it likely wouldn't be by much. Which is why to get anything worthwhile, we have to be willing to eat some of the contract to improve the surplus value. That's really why guys like Bellinger for Braun were never realistic. No matter how you feel about the unproven nature of prospects, high ceiling ones with 6 years control have tremendous value. Bellinger makes essentially nothing for the rest of Braun's contract and therefore has about a $75M head start in surplus value before you even consider production and control beyond that. I know we want to shoot for the moon on the most valuable player we've had in decades, but the reality is Braun's injuries and contract cause him to not really be all that close to the top of our roster in terms of surplus value. He's behind Thames, Broxton, Knebel, Perez, and probably numerous others in that regard. And several prospects in our system who haven't played a day in the majors. Just the way it is.
  8. Ortiz seems to be the forgotten man lately among the pitching prospects (unless you count Bickford I suppose), but he probably shouldn't be. He's having a very nice here albeit in Biloxi, not Colorado Springs.
  9. I love Isan Diaz, but if we were offered Quintana straight up for Diaz, I think it would be flat out negligent of Stearns not to take it. If for no other reason that he could be re-traded for a lot more than Diaz. If not, I don't agree that it does nothing having Quintana around. It obviously helps a lot now, but even if you think we can't compete til 2019, that's still 2019 and 2020 with a frontline starter that we so sorely lack.
  10. I love this team, but I hate them just as much. Thanks for wasting our entire evenings to end it like that . Eat it, Drake.
  11. Nice one Drake. This is going quite well.
  12. Well we know Feliz is now behind Knebel and Oliver Drake in the closer pecking order.
  13. Also costs 4X as much. No big deal to throw around a million bucks. 4M on a 6 ERA project guy is a little riskier.
  14. Hopefully we win it here in the 10th, but if he gets another AB, Jesus is a double away from the cycle.
  15. Totally figured in the back of my mind that if I bashed Sogard enough, he'd make me look silly for it. Although my position on it is still the same. Sogard is just having a flukey nice few games as is happens. But we'll take it!
  16. Luis Sardinas for Ramon Flores was one of those unique trades in which everyone loses.
  17. This is why I really don't want the Sogard and Nieuwenhuis types on the team. Counsell for whatever reason feels this need to work the 24th and 25th guys on the roster into the regular rotation like it's Little League ball. Tonight, I get Sogard starting with the injuries, but there's no universe where he should ever be batting 2nd. That's just dumb. He's a journeyman AAAA player. Hide him near the bottom where he belongs.
  18. We had to work really hard not to score that inning. Sogard batting 2nd is still just flat out stupid.
  19. What a bail out strike call. They can't throw a strike this inning so reward them with a call below the knees. Nice.
  20. Hughes' entire arsenal of pitches seems to be 'throw it in the dirt and hope they swing.'
  21. Franklin has no clue in left field. What a terrible read on that fly.
  22. We have to lead the league in hits allowed to opposing pitchers. Maybe Chase can make history tonight and give up a cycle to a pitcher.
  23. Chase is painful to watch tonight, it's like the return of Victor Santos with how slow he's working.
  24. First game back on the road and rain again? Game is going to go late enough as it is, if they get delayed, I'm out.
