  1. Man these innings are frustrating. We get some things going but we don’t sequence it. Get a walk and a hit buuut the two preceding guys struck out.
  2. You could even argue that taking Mona out of the lineup already on Day 1 of Ortiz being back was somewhat questionable.
  3. Cubs got 3 great innings of relief out of Aaron Civale today, because why wouldn’t they.
  4. That’s what I’m afraid of. With no Megill and no DL Hall, this pen has lost a lot of length.
  5. I’m with the masses on this one. Murphy had no good reason not to send Ashby back out for the 6th.
  6. Bauers has absolutely no business batting in the middle of any lineup, much less a really good one.
  7. Peralta has been pretty phenomenal. I’m ok with Miz in the playoffs in short 2-3 inning outings. I think you’ll see mostly short outings in the playoffs on less rest.
  8. Miz gets himself into trouble just about every single time he starts off an inning with a walk.
  9. You hate to see any playoff race shift on an injury, but losing Wheeler is absolutely devastating for the Phillies. Arguably more damaging than any other single player in the NL playoff field would have been.
  10. I guess I am because I really don’t know what you’re saying. If a deadline pickup hits a 3 run homer to win a playoff game, that trade was worth it? Well sure, but how is that any more predictable than anyone on our current roster doing it? As far as getting a string of good outings in the playoffs from an acquired pitcher, I am sure that is exactly what the Brewers are hoping to get out of Miller. We did add to the bullpen, even though it may not have been the most conventional trade.
  11. Observation: is Miz purposefully sacrificing a few ticks of velocity in favor of better command and efficiency?
  12. You’re not focused on Monasterio because you have the advantage of hindsight to see that he performed well in August. But if we had gone back it and gotten someone at the deadline he definitely would have lost some opportunities in August. I just don’t see how an upgrade over Seigler would have made much difference. Castro for one certainly hasn’t even been better. Seigler had some opportunities and I think we’ve probably seen enough that he isn’t going to see much more, and will probably either be optioned or see his opportunities dwindle now anyway.
  13. Or it would probably just mean the randomness of baseball got the best of them. I mean we can’t seriously make much of a case that the Brewers erred in adding a bat like Castro, for example, when Monasterio has been far better and would have been the one to lose the ABs. I don’t know how many contenders beefed up the bullpen to a greater extent than we did by adding Shelby Miller. Mason Miller to the Padres of course, but there isn’t a Brewer fan in their right mind that would have been okay with giving up Jesus Made for him, which is what it would have taken.
  14. They will probably option Seigler to avoid the DFA of Bauers. They have this odd affinity with Bauers, like he’s somehow essentially to the chemical balance of this organization or something. I can’t complain though, I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see Murphy not budge much on Vaughn starting every day since Bauers returned, even with Vaughn struggling.
