  1. Sure would be nice to have that 3rd run now that we were robbed of on a bogus strike call.
  2. Braun not even in the top 11? Villar over Lucroy?
  3. Nieuwenhuis is horrible. Of course, nothing like a home plate ump influencing the game and costing us a run by just giving in to the barking fans and dugout by calling a strike on a pitch way outside. There's your exhibit A for letting machines call balls and strikes. Machines have no emotions.
  4. I'm not against the idea of acquiring Wheeler. He certainly comes as a major risk, but it's not often that you get a chance to acquire an ace-caliber starter who was a top 7 prospect at one point. Ideally, you'd like to get a guy with more control, but you'd still have Wheeler through 2019. So in a perfect world, you're competitive by 2018 again, but if not, if Wheeler is performing at his ceiling, he could easily be flipped to reload again.
  5. While I think Gioloto and Moncada are probably untouchable, there's no reason for the Brewers to settle for anything less than a similar package to what they obtained last year for Gomez. There seems to be a perception, or even arrogance, that the Brewers should essentially just give Braun and/or Lucroy away for whatever a big market club is nice enough to offer us. That couldn't be further from the truth, and Stearns will be smarter than that. Taking a bad deal just to get what we can not only hurts the club, but sets a bad precedent in further negotiations with any team that Stearns can be taken advantage of. Braun and Lucroy are elite level players and will be priced as such. It's possible that Stearns will lower the price slightly around the deadline if he feels motivated to make a deal rather than wait, but he certainly doesn't have to.
  6. Won't be much need to stay up late watching this one the way this is going. Irks me that Broxton finally puts together a good game, and yet Nieuwenhuis finds his way back into the lineup.
  7. I'm more asking this for the 'experts' here as this might be a terrible idea, but I wonder if you thought a certain draft was so much deeper than any others, if it would be worth employing this strategy : Purposely ignore the draft pool cap for your team. Load up on nothing but 'unsignable' players, go over slot to sign all of them. So let's say instead of spending 9M, you end up spending 35M on draft picks one year. With a 100% penalty on the overage you would need to budget $61M to cover this. And you'd forfeit your 1st for the next 2 years but hope that you added 10 or 15 first round talents in one draft. Would this be a shrewd way to use the system to build a powerhouse farm overnight, or would it be a good way to alienate the rest of the league while wasting money and draft picks?
  8. Doesn't make a lot of sense to just waste Davies' AB last inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out just to give him a short leash in the 7th.
  9. The Mets had the bases loaded with no outs twice and managed to score 1 run and were probably lucky to score that many and you're complaining about the Brewers? If the Mets just hit a little bloop to the outfield in the 9th, a sacrifice fly means nothing. Umm, is anything I said untrue? No. How exactly was it 'complaining'. ? I stated a fact. I fully realize that Jeffress got out of a big jam in the top of the 9th. That has zero to do with our opportunities in the 9th. We still has a chance to win with a flyball from Kirk. The fact that the Mets blew a bases loaded opportunity earlier has nothing to do with our own missed chances.
  10. This was definitely one of those 'bring back the vent thread' games. Games like this bring us back to reality a little bit. We're better than I thought we'd be this year, but we're definitely not contenders.
  11. Carter or Nieuwenhuis just hits a flyball in the 9th on very hittable pitches and this game is long over anyway. Congratulations Brewers on pissing another extremely winnable game away. This team has to be the least clutch team in baseball.
  12. Yeah, our usage of Braun is puzzling. When he's at his best, he gets plenty of time off. When he's struggling, he doesn't get any time off. I'm going to the game on Sunday so I'm pretty confident he'll be off that day.
  13. Nieuwenhuis plays way, way too much, even with the limited options we have. He fields his position okay, but other than that he brings nothing to the table as an everyday guy. It's too bad about Liriano in spring training. This would have been a really good year for him to get an extended chance.
  14. I put that entire missed opportunity on Nieuwenhuis. 2 straight ABs he has seen 6 pitches middle up and he may as well have been up there with a fly swatter in both ABs because he didn't touch a single one.
  15. Nieuwenhuis looked lost in his last AB. Hopefully he can put something in play in the air this time.
  16. Going for it all here. Wow, I saw Broxton take off for 3rd and thought he'd be a dead duck but he made it easily. Great baserunning. Just need a sac fly now.
  17. Braun has looked abysmal lately. For all the time he gets off when he's going good, he's about due for a day off now.
