  1. If he used in 2012 I think it is safe to bet he is still using. Why? Back in 2012 he,had just gotten off scot free. As far as MLB waa concerned he,had never used and was still subject to first time use policy, so it didn't cost hun much when he finally did get caught. No doubt he had plenty of incentive to get a big season to try to 'prove' himself clean. If he got caught now, he'd lose out on an entire yearly 8 figure salary. He'd be one more test away from a lifetime ban which would forfeit the rest of his contract. He has little incentive to improve; I'm sure he'd like to, but he's already made as much money as he's going to make in his career. It doesn't make a material financial difference to him whether he hits .350 or .175 the rest of his career, he's still going to make the same amount. He has everything to lose and nothing to gain by using. I think it's perfectly plausible he was using in 2012 and isn't now.
  2. He told the whole world back in November that his thumb is 100%. The thumb excuse isn't going to fly for him at the end of this year if he bombs this year.
  3. The good news is I just saved hundreds on my checking account by not purchasing Brewer tickers this summer.
  4. I like how Narron was still on the phone there. What are you going to do, tell them not to look at it?
  5. No it really isn't. How many players have actually been caught for steroids? The number is astronomically small. There is no reason on earth he would be worried about it before signing the contract. I was very uneasy when they did the extension because of his injury issues and that is almost certainly his thought process as well. Even if he is the biggest crook in the history of sports there was no good reason for him to think he might get caught. It is simply a stretch to think he knew he would caught given the history of steroids in the game. The history of steroids in the game? They didn't even test for it for like, 150 years. By 2011 when he signed, the steroid culture and testing had changed significantly. It's impossible to put the thought process of when he signed his extension into historical context. The rules has completely changed. Given the progressively more aggressive attitude by MLB toward PED use by 2011, I'm sure Braun, if he was heavily involved as suspected, always knew there was a chance he'd be exposed.
  6. That is a very huge stretch to come to that conclusion. A lot of players have signed deals just like that even before Braun. Braun has had nagging injuries his whole career, of course he was eager to get extended. My vote on this squarely goes in the it depends, April stats are more or less worthless for judging future production so I need to see how he plays into May and June. If he puts up say Corey Hart type numbers the rest of his career I don't think it is the worst deal in their history, if he is just worthless than yeah he might be. It's not a stretch at all. It's actually very logical. There are other possibilities, but that's why he said IMO. No one will ever know besides Braun, but he certainly hasn't proven to be someone who has character that puts him above reproach.
  7. I can't understand the logic that the contract doesn't hurt us. Of course it hurts us. Even if we rebuild it's less cash that Mark A has to invest for the future, it's less we have for extensions for future stars of this team. It's not a death sentence, but yeah it hurts.
  8. You didn't think we were actually going to score there, did you?
  9. Absolutely agree. It's not a coincidence. Almost 5 years away from free agency and he basically agrees to sell the rest of his career? And he gets to play it off like he's just a big franchise guy who just loves to be here and gives a hometown discount. Yeah, he knew exactly what he was doing. And he no doubt knew the CBA and knew we would still owe him every penny regardless of whether or not he was caught. Actually, it benefited him to get caught when he did so he could serve his suspension in a lower paying year rather than lose $5M + later for a 65 game suspension. So, knowing he'll never get another contract again in his career, it's a pretty easy decision now to give up the PED's to make sure he doesn't lose another dollar to suspension. He'll suck for the duration of his deal, but it makes no financial difference to him now, the damage is done.
  10. The problem with this team is that they are really bad at the things they can control (read: fundamentals). The baserunning is atrocious. For all the talk about holding the players accountable, why do we constantly see the same mistakes?
  11. It wasn't all on the same play. Garza got caught leaning toward 3rd expecting a sac bunt and got thrown out at 3rd. Then a traditional strike em out throw em out later in the AB. Pretty standard Brewer rerunning.
  12. Parra isnt worth the price, but Schafer doesn't even belong on an MLB roster. Not that it really matters, not like we'd be any worse off.
  13. It's so hilarious to hear Mark A talk about holding the players accountable. How can you hold players accountable if you have a manager that doesn't hold them accountable? Time after time, it's the same exact mistakes. Wouldn't be a Ron Roenicke managed team if they didn't erase a golden scoring opportunity with a couple outs on the bases. They has 0 out when Parra came up and somehow by the time Parra's AB was over, so was the inning. Unbelievable.
  14. When I left work last night, it was 2-1 going into the bottom of the 9th. When I got out to my car and turned on the radio, I heard Uecker yell "Suicide squeeze and the Brewers win!" I got excited for a second, then I heard music and realized it was just a promo from a past game, and that in actuality we went 1-2-3 in the 9th to lose again. Nice.
  15. MA seems totally oblivious to the fact that established, veteran players eventually turn into worn out, washed up old guys. This team is built backwards. Older players are good for bench depth and leadership. Good teams have young, ascending players as their core, like we did in '08. This team has a core of veterans surrounded and fills in the gaps with young AAAA players like Schafer, H Gomez, Jimenez , etc. It was inevitable that this eventually wasn't going to work anymore.
  16. Something called "The Selig Experience!" We can build an exhibit in LF to honor this terrible team and remind us of all the other atrocious Brewer teams associated with the name Selig! Wait.... Seriously, is it any coincidence that this season happens right after we announce "The Selig Experience?"
  17. Do we not have to come to "the last straw" at some point in time? I mean this is just day after day after day.
  18. Jerry Augustine. He won't be a good manager, but if we're going to lose anyway, may as well give fans a reason to tune in. And those post-game press conferences will be epic.
  19. Two solid years that led to what? A combined 156-168 record with no playoff appearances. The Lohse signing did absolutely nothing for this team other than costing us a ton of money and a draft pick. It also contributed to bringing in a ton of money by being in first place last year for ~135 games or so. If they didn't have Lohse and played at a 78 win pace all season (or worse, depending on who would have started instead), how many fewer fans would have attended? If it was 2.5M instead of 2.8M, 300K fans x $60/fan (ticket, parking, concessions, souvenirs), that's an additional $18M in revenue by being competitive. Lohse cost $11M in salary last season, so his net impact could have been up to $7M positive. It's also been well documented that Lohse is an outstanding presence in the clubhouse and does a great job of keeping the team loose and helping the younger players. You need some veterans on the team to do that and teach the young players how to handle a long season. I would say that drawing 2.8M fans instead of 2.5M and being in first place for 135 games is exactly why we decided to stay the course this year and exactly why we continue to be in the situation that we are in. Attendance is going to plummet this season, there's just no way around it. It's not entirely a bad thing. Part of the reason we've put off the rebuild that we so desperately need for so long is because Mark A is terrified of the consequences of lost attendance. If this forces him to cut payroll and therefore rebuild, so be it.
  20. What's the point of accountability if the person taking the blame isn't the one who needs to be held accountable? Melvin is the one who is more responsible for the state of this team than anyone else...unless Attanasio is the one making the decisions which is certainly possible. Making a move to sell tickets this year sounds like another shortsighted decision that got us into this mess in the first place. I can't picture myself getting excited about another press conference where Melvin introduces yet another manager, makes the same cliche comments about the future, etc, etc. I agree that Melvin needs to go, but he needs to take Roenicke with him. They need a completely fresh start and don't need to be taking big pieces of the previous regime with them. That's just distracting.
  21. Ok, then explain to me how a team that was the best team in baseball last summer has gone an astounding 34-60 since then with basically the same roster. Regression to the mean doesn't fully explain it. The standard deviation shouldn't be enough for a team to go from the best team to the worst team. I don't even really think this is mostly Roenicke's fault either, but I would like to see to see a sense of the accountability that Mark described last September. If Ron has to be the sacrificial lamb, so be it. They can't turn over the entire roster in April, and if they want to sell tickets this year they need to do something to show they aren't going to just accept what's going on without action. It's not like Roenicke is going to be missed.
  22. How can a team that was 50-31 last year in the first half, with essentially the same players for the most part, be so dreadfully bad over the next 94 games? I understand some deviation in the law of averages, but how do you literally go from the span of the best to the worst with almost the exact same players?
  23. I'm asking Doug, Mark, and even Rock and Brian to please not try to give us some kind of nonsense that this rocky start was because of injuries. We all know we would be 2-11 right now regardless the way we have played.
  24. The Reds' slump is no match for our general ineptitude.
  25. They've got to fire the new hitting coach. I know you're only 13 games in, but my gosh, this is historically awful.
