  1. I'm far more concerned with the Brewers' long-term success than how many butts they are putting in the stands this August and September. 75-80 wins is worthless. In fact, long-term you could argue it's worse than 65-70. It gives the regime an excuse to stick with the status quo.
  2. If our options are to lose 96 or play .500 from here on out, I'd take the former. Yeah, .500 was a nice milestone for the '05 group when we were a young and ascending squad but knew that we just weren't quite there yet. For an aging veteran team on its last breaths desperately trying to cling to validity, it's a pretty worthless goal.
  3. Awkward conversation forthcoming in the next week between Melvin and Mark A about Melvin's 'open ended contract. '
  4. You might have spoken too soon. Of course they'll probably IBB Mercer and have a chance to get out of the inning with the pitcher and then maybe Harrison up. Haha. ..not our guy!
  5. You would think with all the guys that we just had to keep on the bench that kept Clark and Rogers from making the roster, we would have a decent alternative on the bench to keep us from having to start Lind and Gennett against lefties. Nope.
  6. 35% of first round picks never even make it to the big show. Lawrie was the 16th overall pick, so he was no slam dunk to ever make it. He was immature in his time here and didn't exactly leave Milwaukee gracefully. Still, calling a 25 year old infielder who has averaged about 3 WAR a year in his 21-25 year old seasons a 'bust' simply because he didn't sustain the ridiculous pace that he started on when he entered the league, is neither a fair nor accurate assessment of their career.
  7. Terrace to Field Bleachers is generally a free upgrade by mid-game...
  8. Speaking of Brett Lawrie, did you see his excellent night a couple days ago? Struck out 4 times on a grand total of 12 pitches. He's a bust and end of story. Lawrie isn't a bust. When healthy he's at worst a productive, league average starting infielder. He's not a star at this point in his career, but he's nowhere near a bust.
  9. He's signed through 2020. This would have been the last year of his original 8 year contract. In retrospect, I would think we probably wish this was the last year. Braun's eagerness to sign a 9 figure contract and guarantee his salary for the next 10 years (basically his entire career) when he was 28 looks a lot different now in light of his PED use.
  10. This bench is so horrific that it's hardly even worth hitting for the pitcher.
  11. Is that really Roenicke's fault? Who would you have picked to pinch hit between Maldonado, Hector Gomez, Luis Jiminez, and Schaeffer? I credit Roenicke for making the decision to pinch hit in that situation but think his options were pretty sad. If we are assuming Braun was not available, then yes it still is, because I think we can certainly assume that Roenicke had at least partial, if not total say in the construction of this bench. I am pretty positive that Melvin did not order him to dump Clark and Rogers in favor of a weak hitting 5th OFer. So yes, he bears responsibility for the consequences of his actions.
  12. The Marcum and Greinke trades were the best things to ever happen to Roenicke. They bought him 4 extra years of leash.
  13. That's the price you pay when you choose to dump guys like Clark and Rogers and keep guys like Logan Schafer as your best bench option.
  14. More Brewer baseball with the fundamental mental mistake by Garza.
  15. Honestly this whole franchise was ready for a new beginning and new regime. I'm not sure why RR or even Melvin was brought back.
  16. Remember just over 24 hours ago when you were excited about the start of a new season?
  17. 2015 Brewers: "We understand the pain you went through last year and will not fool you with a really hot start again."
  18. I really appreciate the Brewers making me appreciate the Packers as much as I do.
  19. Not having that big bat off the bench is going to hurt us late in games when we have big deficits like this. There's no threat on our bench that we can put up there with a few runners on late that can tie up the game.
  20. I know you're joking and it doesn't really matter if we start 0-1, but this first inning is symbolic of what I expect from our team this year. Good enough bats, but starting pitching not good enough to contend.
  21. Lohse is at the age where the bottom could fall out on him any year. Maybe this will be that year.
  22. We already have a bench bat with power in Matt Clark. We're just not opting not to keep him and go with our standard punch and judy bench instead. I'm sure it will work out fine and this is the last time we'll be discussing it.
