  1. I'm more concerned with who we acquire than who we trade. There are no untouchables on this roster. Too often in recent history, we've insisted on getting MLB ready talent in a trade. When you do that, you sacrifice upside. That just doesn't make much sense for us anymore. We need franchise cornerstones, not role players. We already have a roster full of role players. I'd rather get a guy who is 3 years away from MLB with star potential than a young player coming into the league with a ceiling of an average MLB starter.
  2. Lohse isn't worth much at all. Short-term rental, expensive, he's 36, and teams may be scared away by his start this year especially because of his age. I'd be thrilled to get a top 100 prospect for him, which I doubt they could get and they would certainly have to eat some salary either way. Gomez, Lucroy, and Peralta are the only guys on our roster with a lot of straight up trade value.
  3. The Braun contract is going to look incredibly bad in a rebuild unless he rebounds and at least gives us ARam type production the next 5 years.
  4. I really miss the feeling of this team from the '07/'08 years. Yeah, they fell short in '07, but the lineup with just so loaded with young potential star players. Braun and Fielder looked like potentially the best 2 players in baseball, Hardy was becoming a star, we still thought Weeks would be a star, and guys like Hart really added some real young talent as far as future role players. Yo was breaking into the league. It's really hard to get that same feeling and excitement from this squad. The best 2 players are closing in on 30, and in the case of Gomez, almost certainly not here beyond next year. The other key players on this team are in their 30s (Braun, Garza ), or in some cases, closer to 40 (Ramirez, Lohse ). Some young talent has filled the gaps with guys like Davis, Genett, and Nelson, but they just don't have the ceilings of the guys that we had coming up in '07/'08 to produce that same feeling. Peralta is essentially the 'new' Yo, and an exciting young talent, but there just isn't much else there. It honestly feels to me like the end of an era and having reached a point where rebuild is inevitable. There just aren't strong enough building blocks left in the organization to build a solid foundation upon.
  5. Seriously, I can't fathom that at some point in the last week, Mark A hasn't asked himself, "Do I really want to keep this guy indefinitely? " Unfortunately it may be the case that Melvin has simply given Mark A exactly the team that he has asked for.
  6. I see no realistic chance RR is brought back if this is a 70-75 win team, with an outside shot of him getting fired mid-season if our first half is bad enough.
  7. Unless the pitcher has completely fallen asleep and you can get into 3rd standing up, it is never a good idea to try to steal 3rd with 2 outs. The marginal chance of an infield single or passed ball on the following AB making it worthwhile is not near worth the risk of making that 3rd out at 3rd with a runner already in scoring position.
  8. Well, I'm not expecting anything, but this is the guy you want up.
  9. Unfortunately, when you decide to send down guys like Jason Rogers and Matt Clark to accommodate terrible players like Logan Schafer, you won't have many choices in those situations.
  10. I'm not even sure Braun is a big boy anymore. He might just be a .280 with 20 HR hitter. It wouldn't surprise me if he's just an average corner outfielder for the rest of his career.
  11. I am so sick of watching this team's garbage offensive approach year after year. Nobody on and down 5? Hack away. 2 strikes and multiple runners on? Time to guess.
  12. The only thing I know about Manness is that Cardinal fans hate him. Go Khris.
  13. Gennett gets pulled for H Gomez against a lefty, but Parra doesn't for Davis. Ron is so random.
  14. Kept it within range, but really need to start showing some signs of life here.
  15. Bases loaded, any runs for the Cardinals here and I would say the fat lady is pretty much singing.
  16. Getting really frustrating watching this offense. They should not be this bad through 8 games. It always seems like they manage to underperform for their talent no matter who the hitting coach is.
  17. Haha seriously? It more just came to mind in the 1st on a play that a good 3B probably makes. I certainly don't blame him for not getting to that one, doubt that another 3B would, but he does have atrocious range that is probably going to worsen with age. He's not really well suited for the field anymore.
  18. Having a dinosaur with no range at 3rd is most likely going to catch up to us this year.
  19. One AB late on that aggressive offensive approach, Scooter.
  20. Lucroy probably saw it all the way because there were 2 out, Brian.
  21. Just an awful approach by Scooter. Cannot stare at 2 straight borderline pitches with 2 strikes, a runner on 3rd, and the pitcher on deck.
  22. Anyone else not get the game in HD tonight? Or is it just a Dish thing?
  23. Too bad about Hand. The Hand references and clichés were the easiest article titles for Milwaukee sportswriters in franchise history.
