  1. 1st and 2nd nobody out in the 6th. How will we give away an out on the bases here? Double steal, Aoki thrown out at 3rd?
  2. Something for Roenicke supporters to consider: We have a whopping 5 guys out of our 8 regular starters who are all batting at .323 or higher! That is amazing. These 5 have combined for 28 HRs. And remarkably, we are only 18th in MLB in scoring. Some of this is because of poor situational hitting. And some of it is because Roenicke's style has resulted in countless outs on the bases in all different types of situations. Roenicke has completely failed to adjust his strategy to the abilities of his players. Somehow, he instead seems to expect them to adjust to his style. When you have a lineup full of guys hitting .240, I better understand the need to try to manufacture runs. When you have 5 guys hitting .323, constantly giving away outs on the bases is remarkably foolish. And yet, he seems oblivious to the problem. He said himself the other day, "We're really struggling offensively, and it doesn't seem like we should be." No, we should not be, Ron. You're the manager. You tell me what's going on.
  3. Yes, he has had great seasons out of Segura and Gomez so far, what we sort of expect from Braun, and a very good season from Aoki. He has also had abysmal seasons far below what anyone would have anticipated from Weeks, Lucroy, Maldonado, and Gonzalez (even though Gonzalez was supposed to be a bench player). He lost his cleanup hitter for a month (who still isn't 100%), and lost his top three 1B to serious injuries (Hart, Gamel, Green) forcing Gonzalez to play a position he shouldn't be playing; Morris and Halton haven't had seasons in AAA to suggest that they would have been much better options. I don't know that you can fault RR for the injuries that have handcuffed him in filling out the lineup, and the focus on pitching in the last five drafts has left them without much positional depth in the upper part of the farm system. The bullpen has been better, but the starting pitching has been worse and starting pitching is more important. Lohse has been what we expected but Gallardo and Estrada have been worse, and we knew that the other two spots were going to be question marks. Peralta is a rookie, we didn't know if we would get the Peralta of the first half of 2012 or the second half of 2012, and maybe the league has figured out Fiers, maybe the issues with his mother's health are distracting him. As for Axford, is it RR or DM that should have made the decision to send him down to the minors? His decision-making hasn't been perfect, but it goes back to who is to blame for poor performance, the manager, the player, or the GM? These aren't really comparable IMO. For one, Maldonado is a bench player, and he is performing about as we expected him to as a backup catcher. It's no surprise that last year was probably the exception for him. Same with Gonzalez, even though he has still undershot expectations. Weeks and Lucroy have stunk, no doubt, but every lineup has a guy or two who have underperformed expectations. Not every lineup has 3 players playing like MVP's and 5 guys hitting over .320.
  4. Retaliation doesn't have to come the same game. It can come in a different game or even different series. The point is that when Ron Roenicke is your manager, retaliation will never come.
  5. Well it won't be us standing up to them. We haven't deliberately pitched inside on anyone since the Ron Roenicke era began.
  6. Rickie should be given the injured pitcher treatment at this point. Just go up there, waggle the bat, and hope to get 4 balls before 3 strikes.
  7. This is a real bummer. I spend a lot of my summer watching the Brewers so when they're lousy, it sucks, quite frankly. The most frustrating thing is that there are numerous really good players on this team. We shouldn't be this bad. But yet here we are, in the cellar. I'd like to believe the future is bright with Segura, Braun, and Gomez, but I can't. If they can't win with these guys now, how are they supposed to do so in the future with no big names in the farm system to speak of, once guys like Ramirez, Hart, Gallardo, and Lohse are long gone?
  8. I think the talent is around a .500 team. They are underachieving this year. Our starting rotation is nowhere near average. Nor is our bullpen. It isn't but probably should be. Lohse was a Cy Young contender last year and Gallardo is an All-Star starter. Peralta supposedly has all this potential. Give the Cardinals the same starting 5 and I bet the rotation is average or above average. And I'm not joking.
  9. When I listen to Mike McCarthy speak about the Packers, I feel like he has a strong knowledge of the game, gameplanning, and the capabilities of his players. When I listen to Roenicke speak about the Brewers, I count how many players' names he adds 'ie' or 'y' to.
  10. Average team? We look decidedly below average and have the W/L record to back it up. If we were a contender, the Lohse signing is great, but it's just a waste if we're not even a .500 team.
  11. Got a break there but I wish they'd stop trying to run on Molina. That's an out if Carpenter handles it.
  12. I'm actually starting to think 3/36 for ARam was a bargain.
  13. Tie game right now if Braun isn't repeatedly chasing Ball 4.
  14. Has the 3-0 green light ever worked even once for us this year?
  15. There's really no sugarcoating it - so far this year, Peralta has been extremely disappointing.
  16. My biggest problem with our front office is that our organization seems to be a rudderless ship. It's been a long time since I've seen any semblance of a long-term plan. It's like Mark and Doug meet twice a year -- once in December to look at the holes from last year and what overpriced free agents are available to attempt to temporarily plug those holes, and once in July to figure out if they have enough left in the farm system in a desperate attempt to trade for help for the stretch run (last year being an exception.)
  17. I half expect Garcia to throw a perfect game, tip of the iceberg to our season.
  18. Are you suggesting that he should fire Melvin? If so, that is ironic for a couple of reasons, considering you mentioned the 2011 season in the same post. I think he's saying that completely gutting the farm system and putting all your eggs in one basket (the 2011 season) was a pretty poor and unsustainable long-term strategy.
  19. It's embarrassing that Peralta is our best young pitcher.
  20. Here's what I know: Roenicke has a lineup that is loaded at at least half of the positions, even with 2 of them underperforming. He has an MVP and 2 others playing like MVPs, and Yuni playinf over his head. The bullpen has been far better than last year, so far. He also was given another piece in the rotation this year who was a Cy Young candidate last year. And with all that, he has been able to muster a last place team, not even ahead of the Cubs. I'll ask Roenicke supporters - is this acceptable?
  21. This team is not good. Which is amazing because they do have some very good players. But somehow you put them together collectively and they suck.
  22. I'm a little surprised they are approaching it this early, although with each passing game by Segura it becomes a lot less surprising. I'm guessing they offered him a very team-friendly deal, like 9 years, $40-45M, hoping he would bite on the security. So Segura is probably torn between the security offered by the deal and protection against any injury or decline, versus the knowledge that he will be worth a lot more than this in 6 years if he continues to perform like he has.
