  1. Yes.How? Surely you've been watching this franchise for a number of years.
  2. The sad thing is, I'm not even surprised to see the opener end like this. Was anyone?
  3. Hey, this was pretty close to being right. But Prince's "brawls" seem to be more of the "hold me back, hold me back" tough guy act. I'm not sure the guy has ever been in a real fight. That being said, I'm thinking big year for him.
  4. Still no confirmation on this from any major sources, so I'm completely preparing for the big letdown in the morning of finding out that this is fake.
  5. Bush would accept arbitration because he'll get a lot more there than in FA. And he's not a type A or B so we gain nothing by offering him arby.
  6. Hope that he rebounds next year? I don't know what else you can really do. You're certainly not going to trade him after a big down year and he's not going anywhere for a long while. I wish there was a obvious "Hey, this is why he's slumping this year" answer, but I don't know that there is. He's probably just not a 1.000 OPS ultra-superstar that we once thought. But he's not this bad. He'll have a better year in '11. I really do think he may have reached a frustrated point of apathy this year, because he's swung at just some ridiculously bad pitches. Hopefully we get off to a better start next year and stay in contention and Braun improves with the team.
  7. Right now I don't see a reason to rush any of these guys, none of which are really MLB-ready. Like someone said, we need to milk the 6+ years of service time on the ones that pan out, as much as possible. Rivas is the closest and doesn't project at the front of the rotation. If we were to give anyone a few September starts, I would think it'd be him.
  8. On the subject of players have no-trade clauses to Milwaukee or in general just not coming to Milwaukee, IMO there are 2 major factors in whether an elite MLB player is willing to come here for comparable money to what a big market team might offer. - Winning. Like someone said, players want to play for a winner. You show you're a contender, and you're going to see more players agree to come. It's kind of the chicken and egg situation, because you need these players to HELP turn your team back around, but that's where our prospects panning out is so important to us. - Familiarity. Would Gallardo, Braun, and Hart be the kind of players who would sign here for the same money that a West Coast team offered, having never played here? Probably not. But they all took extensions. Why? Players spend some time here, get comfortable with the environment, and then want to stay. Come to think of it, even with Milwaukee not being the most attractive city to come to, I can't think of too many players who, after spending a year or even less (CC) with the Brewers, didn't warm up to the idea of spending a few years here. That's why we're more likely to be able to hold onto our OWN home grown elite players than acquire someone elses. There are other factors involved....such as a player's lifestyle..does he like to party, or just want a quiet place to relax with his wife? Or where did the guy grow up? For guys like Counsell and Washburn, that makes Milwaukee more attractive. But in general, I think winning and familiarity are the biggest factors. -
  9. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I could not possibly disagree with this more. Selling our entire farm for a guy like Halladay is the exact sort of move Melvin has to pursue? Seems to me like it's the exact sort of move that can bury our franchise for the next 5 years. So if that trade had gone through, we are around what, maybe around a .500 team this year? Then we're down a few top 10 prospects including probably some pitching prospects, and things are looking mighty bleak at the moment. The reason BF.net values prospects very highly is because of how important it is for a team like the Brewers to have their players succeed in their first 6 cost-controlled years. Also, the Sabathia situation was very different. We were a top NL team at the time looking for the extra pennant push. I'm not saying there isn't situations for these kinds of things to happen, but for a franchise like the Brewers, it has to be the exception, not the rule. We are not a team structured that can afford to cough up our top prospects every couple of years for the top rent-a-pitcher on the market. The Yankees can afford to do that. Not us. Do you see teams like the Rays, Twins, and Marlins unloading their farms for the top pitcher on the trade block? No, because they develop their own top pitchers. We have to as well, there isn't any other option, and I think they are beginning to realize that.
  10. Am I the only one disturbed that Melvin basically admits that he tried to sell the farm for one year of Roy Halladay? You've got to assume Lawrie was included in that deal. Who knows who else? Halladay and Gallardo at the top of the rotation would have been nice for 2010, but not enough, and then what? I'm very relieved Halladay blocked it. I really don't want Melvin around to try to make any more moves like that.
  11. If we start selling any major pieces (Hart or Fielder), which pretty much would constitute throwing in the towel on the season, I can't think of any reason to hang onto Bush. He'll be a FA, but he won't qualify type B so we'll lose him for nothing anyway. He's got value as a #4 inning eater. Would be a big upgrade for the Padres at the back of their rotation. Clears up our rotation logjam. And gets something in return for someone we'll otherwise get nothing for. Even if you're an advocate of signing Bush this offseason, which I'm not, we could do so after trading him anyway.
  12. I'd be okay with Minor but I too want to see more added to the deal. Keep in mind that Hart is likely heading towards Type A FA status. Not only are we forfeiting a year and a half of him if he is traded, we are forfeiting the 1st round supplementary pick at a minimum (Type B), + 1st or 2nd round pick in free agency. (If Type A). The trade compensation needs to help cover that, not just a year and a half of Hart.
  13. That is losing baseball trying to play small ball to score 3 runs. Better pitching would certainly be welcomed as well as better defense but bunting and stealing bases is not anywhere near the problem with this team. The core issue is Jack Z and Melvin drafting for offense and nothing else and I get why they did it. The second issue is we are still early in the rebuild, we are still on the first set of players drafted and it is usually the 2nd set of players that are the ones that put you on the map long term. Rebuilding a sad organization is a 10-15 year project. It's a 10-15 year project if the owner makes bad decisions in who he hires as his GM. Which becomes an even longer project if the owner continues to stick by aforementioned bad GM.
  14. For his press conferences, Macha may as well be a giant doll with a string attached in back, and when you pull the string you can hear one of the following phrases: "We had our chances today." "Defensive mistakes cost us". "We just can't seem to get that big hit." "Their guy pitched pretty well." "This negativity is poppycock."
  15. Where was this said? I'd like to see the article or whatever it was just to laugh. Let me see if I can find it again, I think it was a link from ESPN's MLB page, maybe rumors, under one of those pages with a lot of little blurbs.
  16. Well at least I still have a reason to watch yet today then. It's surely not to see if we can still get back into it.
  17. As an anonymous MLB scout recently said, "The worst infield defense in baseball. Easily."
  18. At least he hit the ball hard??? I really feel sorry for the bride out there today.
  19. Would be a really really good time for Braun to break out of it.
  20. What ever happened to that old adage that you don't give pitchers close calls if they're not hitting the strike zone?
  21. Even the Doorman has found better things to do than attend Brewer games.
  22. Hart is 1-1 today with a walk. I like that. Now Prince needs to knock out one out next time up.
