  1. Thank you Billy for not letting another scoring opportunity to go to waste here. What a shot!
  2. Prince would be in for a stern talking to if Dusty was the manager. "I'm tired of all these damn walks, Prince. I want you hacking on 3-1."
  3. Impressive...Kendall has looked good in that department so far. I see Estrada is 1 for 2 throwing out baserunners so far this season. I wonder who that was? It takes special talent to get caught stealing by Johnny Estrada.
  4. You gotta feel decent about the lead with our ace on the mound, but I wish we were capitalizing a liittle better -- this game shouldn't be close. A 2 run lead isn't much especially at GABP with the Red's lineup.
  5. Braun walks!!! Great time for one too, with Prince coming up.
  6. 1. No. I think the game has passed Dusty by. 2. Wood, no. I don't know that anything would have changed what happened to Wood. Prior, maybe. He rode Prior like a horse in '03 and Prior's arm was simply not ready for that kind of workload. 3. No. That was Steve Bartman's fault. (kidding). 4. No. And I'm not exactly Yost's biggest fan.
  7. Okay, I get what you guys are saying, and what you were trying to say, 74. My bad. I used 3 year splits as an indicator of predictability for this year, but for Jenkins and Estrada, we're not really talking about that, since we're just comparing last year's numbers to what we can expect this year. I still think it's a fair gauge to predict for Cameron and Kendall, but for Estrada and Jenkins, it's irrelevant since all we care about are their raw numbers for last year, not what they did before or what they might do in '08.
  8. How? The whole point is we're comparing what the team did LAST YEAR to what they should do this year. The other two years in his splits don't have anything to do with this thread whatsoever. Because I don't think that what they did last year is a very good base indicator of what they will do this year. I don't expect Ted Lilly to have a career year again just because he did last year. Nor do I expect Kendall to be as bad as he was overall last year -- I would guess he'll be more of a cross of what he did in 2005, '06, and '07. Explain how? How can it possibly be biased? What does his numbers for the D-backs and Braves have to do with the price of tea in China? It's totally irrelevant. I think it's a fair assumption to say that a guy who's a career .297/.374 guy vs right handers is going to produce better than .265/.285 that we got out of Estrada last year. Look again, I said it was NOT biased to expect that out of Kendall. And again, we're expecting a noticeable upgrade from what Estrada and Jenkins did in 2007. Well, I'd be thrilled with that. I think that'd be a big bonus if we see a noticeable offensive upgrade. I'd be more than happy if they could give us similar offensive production OPS-wise, but provide the defense and intagibles over the course of the season to win us those couple extra games.
  9. And again, we're not comparing Johnny Estrada's career numbers vs right handers to Jason Kendall's or Geoff Jenkins, we're comparing what each did last season which is the only relevant season to this discussion to what Kendal and Cameron can be expected to do this year vs right handers. There's nothing bias about it. How is saying that Jason Kendall should put up a better line than .263/.285 this year biased? Or that Mike Cameron hitting in front of Prince in Miller Park should put up a better line than .262/.326 this year. First of all, in regards to Estrada, I never used his career statistics. The most I used were his 3 year splits, which I think is a pretty fair analysis. I don't think that line for Kendall (.263, .285) is biased. I think only using the '07 numbers might be a little biased. For instance, I certainly don't think it's fair to assume that Kendall will hit 61 points higher vs. RHP than LHP just because he did in '07. Cameron hit .222 and .298 off RHP based off his last year stats, while Jenkins even in a bad year was .262 and .326. So it works both ways. Could Cameron do that against RHP? Sure, maybe. I wouldn't consider it a lock at age 35, though, that's for sure. I'm really glad we got Kendall and Cameron. I think Kendall actually knows what he is doing behind the plate and Cameron could potentially save us several games in the outfield. I just think that those who expect them to be a noticeable offensive upgrade from Estrada and Jenkins over the course of the season are going to be disappointed.
  10. It doesn't look to me like he came clean so much as he was backed into a corner and had to just make the best out of it that he could. At least he took responsibility, but he didn't really have any choice but to. It may not seem like that big of a deal to us, but if I'm the Astros GM, I'm ticked. My expensive superstar SS, who I thought was a good 2-3 years away from declining, is very likely going to start showing signs of decline soon. Can they put a clause in an MLB contract to void $$ or years off the contract if age is proven to be misrepresented?
  11. Hmm, that's a good question. On the surface, I think you should be fine -- I'm pretty sure they go by IP address, not billing address. In fact, they must, because I do know that some people circumvent the blackout restrictions with the use of a proxy server. I suppose it's possible that he may have some problems off the bat due to the billing address, but a phone call to their customer service department to verify the IP address should be able to clear that up.
  12. I'm not sure where we're getting that Cameron and Kendall are definite upgrades even against RHP over Jenkins and Estrada. Jenkins as we know is very good against RHP. Using 3 year splits, which is a pretty fair recent sample size, Jenkins has a .292 BA vs. RHP and a .869 OPS. Cameron has a .251 BA and a .773 OPS. Estrada has a .282 BA and a .728 OPS vs. RHP. Kendall has a .270 BA and a .657 OPS vs. RHP. I guess you could call Estrada vs. Kendall a push in that department, if you really want to be generous. Historically, Kendall is pretty close to the same in his splits RHP vs. LHP. Obviously we're happy with Kendall and Cameron, but I don't see anything that really indicates that we can say who we obtained should do better vs. RHP than who we had, without sounding a little biased. Obviously, I'm not saying I'd prefer to have them back instead, and this doesn't take defense or other reasons into account why we obtained them, but I'm just saying, I don't really see how Kendall and Cameron vs. RHP is better than Jenkins and Estrada.
  13. That's what I don't understand. Are they really that worried about losing viewers to the net? Do they really think that if the broadcast is available on my television, I'm going to load up the net to watch it? Do people actually do that? If that's the concern, why not just black out the games in the markets where they ARE available on television that particular day?
  14. Sometimes I really despise smallball. Especially considering how we've been hitting the ball lately, we need every out that we can get -- we can't afford to give any away.
  15. The Cubs just put up 9 ER in 2 IP against Josh Fogg. Why don't we ever get to face pitchers like Fogg? Oh, wait.
  16. With a RHP on the mound, they may as well.
  17. If it is, I'd put my hand on McClung's shoulder and tell him, "Seth, this is going to be your last appearance for us, so I don't care if it takes you 200 pitches, you're in for the rest of the game.
  18. It seems like a minor miracle that we only gave up 2 runs that inning.
  19. I am so pumped for this Bucks/Timberwolves game. This is sweet.
  20. I do like Ned because he does try to use all information available to him to make an informed decision. Evidence of that, the pitcher batting 8th this year. I'm glad he's not afraid to against it just because it's not conventional. I don't like that sometimes he seems bitterly stubborn. Sometimes I feel like he'll stick with a pre-season decision of his until his hand is forced. Example, he'd still have Prince 3rd and Braun 4th if they didn't say something. He still has Hall 5th and Hart 6th and says he has no plans to change that. He gives me the impression (JMO) at times that being right is just as important to him as winning, and I find that a little troubling.
  21. I am at a loss as to why Hart is still batting 6th. It almost feels like Yost is so behind his idea here that he's going to stubbornly stick with it until Hall hits a grand slam in front of Hart so he can say "I told you so."
  22. I don't think we have a lineup of players with extreme platoon splits. Still, I don't see why we would NOT expect a repeat of last year. We removed 2 out of the 3 regular left handed bats in our lineup, Jenkins and Estrada (switch). I would imagine we'll suffer a split of at least what we saw last season.
  23. It's early, but is anyone concerned about our struggles against righty pitching? Look at our results so far this year. We have really not put a single good outing together against a righty starter. Zambrano dominated us. Lilly is a lefty, good results. Dempster shut us down. Sanchez is a lefty, good results. Correia, a career reliever, was the righty that we had the most success against -- 6 IP, 4 runs. Zito is a lefty, good results. Cueto pretty much shut us down. Fogg was very effective against us. Harang dominated us. Figueroa shut us down. Santana is a lefty, good results. Perez is a lefty, good results. Looper shut us down. See the trouble? We have dominated pretty much every lefty starter we've faced this year. Unfortunately, we're not going to see mostly lefty starters, we're going to see mostly righty starters. Almost every single righty, from Nelson Figueroa to Carlos Zambrano, have left our lineup completely ineffective. Cameron isn't going to be a band-aid to that -- just another righty in the lineup. I'm not proclaiming doom and gloom here, but I do find it a bit concerning that it seems like we've built a lineup that will rake against lefties but almost always need great pitching to survive against righties.
  24. Ah, the Milwaukee Brewers. Raking against Johan Santana and Oliver Perez. Laying eggs against Nelson Figuroa and Braden Looper. Like always, they make you want to pull your hair out.
  25. Actually I'd rather him go after the first pitch. He's giving away the fact that he's taking the first pitch every time, and they're tossing him a meatball right down the middle on the first pitch of every single one of his AB's.
