  1. I’m all about calling out umps for bad performance. But I’m more about doing it on egregiously bad calls — to me these ones split hairs — pitches like this will be 50/50 until the robots are here (which can’t happen soon enough).
  2. Man these Red fans are babies. That Strike 3 to Friedl had plenty of the plate.
  3. You guys won’t believe this (or maybe you will after the last month and a half), but the oft-maligned Brewers’ offense in the 1st half of the season, are currently, at this moment, the #1 offense in MLB in runs scored.
  4. Don’t throw to the lower outside part of the strike zone with this umpire. He isn’t aware that it exists.
  5. You know what? This game started early. I’m down with an old school 3 and a half hour game tonight.
  6. Blake Perkins and Isaac Collins can rest assured that their jobs are quite safe when they return.
  7. This ump is a bum but can’t blame this inning on him. Miz couldn’t throw strikes.
  8. That was a good AB til that 3-2 guess. Then putting the bat down like he was headed to 1st? That was damn near down the middle.
  9. Yeah, might be. If so, is what it is. It sure hasn’t felt like it lately, but we will lose more games yet this season.
  10. Pretty sure he didn’t check his swing on the previous pitch, either. Wish they would have showed it.
  11. Am I the only one who thought Andujar hit that about 450 feet?
  12. Not disagreeing that this happened, but trying to understand it. Isn’t Collins a very high end leftfielder defensively?
  13. Bucks sign Amir Coffey. Sneaky good deal. That’s as solid of bench depth as you’ll find for that price at this time of year.
  14. The Brewers aren’t particularly top heavy, which makes them very well equipped to handle injuries. There isn’t one guy who you lose that throws the machine totally out of whack, unlike other teams that rely heavily on a couple superstars. That makes this Brewer team quite a bit different than their best teams from years past. I think a good way to answer this question is to ask, whose absence would be most harmful? I can’t say Yelich — since he doesn’t really contribute in the field, we’re only talking about his bat. His ABs if the roster was fully healthy would be mostly absorbed by Hoskins with probably minimal difference. Can’t really say any of the outfielders because of the depth there. Obviously, you start losing a couple and it hurts, but it’s why we haven’t missed a beat without Chourio. That’s why I went with Contreras, then Turang. Jansen is adequate, but I don’t know how much effect Contreras missing would have on the pitching staff, and I’d rather not find out. Come to think of it, by this criteria, Megill should probably get more consideration than he gets. It would potentially hurt a lot to lose him.
  15. If you give Chourio, Yelich, Frelick, and Collins each a day off every 8 games, you can work Perkins into the lineup half the time. I think that’s a ballpark of what I’d go with. Seigler is probably going to continue a soft platoon with Durbin. Monasterio, Hoskins, Lockridge and Jansen are going to get scraps. I kind of forgot Jake Bauers existed. I think he actually might be a DFA candidate when healthy because I just don’t know where you put him and who you take out for him.
  16. True, but Miz would only need to finish top 2 in ROTY voting to qualify for the full service year. If Collins weren’t having a breakout rookie season, Miz would have a much clearer path to top 2.
  17. The Dodgers are definitely dangerous, you’d like to think we would have some confidence going into that one being 6-0 against them in the season, but we know how dangerous they are when they’re right and healthy. They’re the defending champs for a reason. The Cubs — I don’t know. The home field advantage thing would suck, but it’s just always been that way. Would be a crushing series to lose, but it’d be just as sweet on the other side to end their season. I think you could make pretty legitimate arguments that the Mets and Padres aren’t very desirable opponents, either. I guess my summation is that nothing has gone our way since 2018, no matter the opponent or matchup, so it’s time to just let the chips fall where they may and get the job done regardless of the opponent. Start by locking up that top 2 seed and go from there.
  18. Dodgers versus Cubs is a pretty interesting potential WC matchup. Interesting mostly because one of them would be going home early.
  19. But his emergence ironically may cost Miz a service year. Unfortunate for Miz, not unfortunate for the Brewers.
  20. We literally go from discussing if we even trust Peralta to start a playoff game to discussing his Cy Young chances within the span of one calendar week. To echo others, Peralta isn’t a legit contender — probably borderline top 5, but he’s underappreciated. I should disclaim that by saying “right now” because there’s still time for him to go on a crazy tear. Isaac Collins wasn’t a legit ROTY contender until he was.
  21. I mean it’s so rare that it happens. But it’s just about the sweet spot for him, right about where the QO is, so, maybe. The only time I can think of where that happened is Aramis Ramirez. Come to think about it, he gets the 10M buyout if he doesn’t pick it up, so no, he’ll decline. He can do better than 1/10 in free agency.
