  1. Lara has a .410/.490/.690/1.180 slash line against LHP in AAA. I know that doesn’t mean it’ll perfectly translate to the majors, but if he can even come within 300 points of that OPS against LHP, there’s your bat.
  2. There is no point in having Frelick sit on Milwaukee bench every day. There is also no point in replacing him with a known quantity like Perkins or Lockridge. If you are going to bench him, which I definitely understand, he should be optioned to go work things out in Nashville and Lara should be up to take his ABs.
  3. My post about him earlier was obviously a joke (sort of) but it’s ironic how good of a fit Freddy Peralta would be for this team. Miz, Harrison, and Peralta in a playoff series?
  4. It kind of seemed like in the 5th that Murphy was challenging Sproat and willing to lose the game to do it. I’m not saying right or wrong, but it seemed like in the 5th he was hoping for that inning to be a turning point in Sproat’s season. Unfortunately it was not, though I imagine we would have lost the game regardless of what the 5th inning strategy was.
  5. The good news for today is that the Cubs are still dogwater.
  6. With the Mets in last place, we should go out and get a reasonably priced rental starter like a Freddy Peralta. A nice versatile prospect like Jett Williams might get it done. I’d have liked to see what he could do for us but they seem content continuing to trot out Hamilton and Rengifo.
  7. Wholly uncompetitive series that had major NLCS 2.0 vibes to it other than getting some fortunate breaks in one game in this one.
  8. When your PH options in the 9th inning are Luis Rengifo, Gary Sanchez and Blake Perkins, it’s time to shake up the bottom of that roster a little bit.
  9. Nothing is more irritating watching a baseball game than seeing multiple guys hack out of the zone with nobody on base in a situation where you just need to start with baserunners. The Dodgers won this series because they took the walks we gave them,
  10. I think the fact that beating the Dodgers in a 7 game series in October feels and sounds like such an imposing, daunting task is just probably one of the most depressing and frustrating things about MLB and how the system is designed.
  11. Frelick has all 3 options remaining. It would have seemed very doubtful at the beginning of the season for him to ever be in danger of being sent down this season, but he would be wise to start getting it together.
  12. You need Miz, Harrison, Patrick and Ashby to chew up the vast majority of innings in a series against them. That’s the only hope.
  13. Too bad Brice was out. Might have had a rally going here.
  14. Gasser has already been sent down for Carlos Rodriguez.
  15. Ortiz isn’t going to hit. I think there’s a large enough sample to accept it. Either we live with his bat in exchange for his glove, or we don’t. Right now we are, I suspect by seasons’ end, we won’t. The real culprits of the offense as I mentioned are Frelick and Yelich. You cannot get this kind of production out of a corner outfielder who was one of our primary leadoff men last year. And you cannot get this kind of production out of a DH only player who is expected to produce in the 3-4 spot every day.
  16. I don’t hate it, you have to play the long game with Miz and Harrison this year and make sure you have them at their best in October, but this rotation is not very deep with Woodruff and Priester on the shelf. I like Logan. If Priester doesn’t recover soon and start showing some signs of last years’ guy in his rehab starts, they may need to look for a starter in July.
  17. You can’t allow this many baserunners against this team and not get burned eventually.
  18. Close the book on Sproat — 4 innings, 3 earned. The luck ran out.
  19. At some point you can’t just force it all year on a first place team. If he’s a swingman, long man than he’s a swingman/long man.
  20. Brewer pitchers have put 23 Dodgers on for free in this series. 23. That’s insane and usually a losing recipe.
  21. This was not a good idea to send Sproat out there for the 5th. It hasn’t worked before, he’s been shaky all day and this isn’t the lineup to play with fire.
  22. Unless they’re seeing something in New York that we aren’t, this is a pointless challenge.
  23. Murph is bound and determined to get Sproat over the hump today. It's either going to work or it’s going to cost us the game.
