  1. Cabellero did him some favors, but nice job working out of it.
  2. Terrible challenge, and woof, Kyle does not look sharp right now.
  3. I think we probably offer long-term deals to more of our young talent than we are made aware of. It is wonderful that we were able to sign Chourio and I do think the Pratt deal will end up being worthwhile as well. It always takes two to tango on these deals. Some players are thrilled to just lock in long-term security early on when they’re still relatively unproven and willing to leave a lot of potential earnings on the table to lock in the security now, and that’s great. Others are probably content betting on their talent and willing to risk going year to year for their pre-arb and arb seasons. That’s fine too. It’s a matter of personal preference for the player and that’s a private matter between them, their family, and their agent so again I would speculate that we probably do try these deals a lot but don’t always get a bite.
  4. Is his OPS versus righties negative?
  5. I agree with you . The Durbin trade looks like a homerun so far. This trade doesn’t look good, but by no means am I bumping it to criticize the FO or say that Arnold isn’t doing a good job. We often praise the ones that work out, so it’s only fair to note the ones that don’t. No one is batting 1.000, but Arnold is batting above league average. They clearly loved something they saw in Zerpa and were willing to overpay for it thinking they could fix him. Hopefully, lesson learned.
  6. Expected, but still — booooooooo. There are at least 2-3 guys in AAA that have earned an opportunity over him at this point.
  7. I think you know that’s the not the point of what I said. It could have been done in March and not spent a million dollars for literally nothing.
  8. Mears has 1.93 ERA. Collins has a really rough start to the season and is now up to a 111 OPS+. This one is looking really, really rough. Both Mears and Collins would have been useful so far this season.
  9. So we for all metaphorical purposes just lit 1 million dollars on fire for no reason at all. That’s healthy cap management.
  10. If it were based on merit and production and who deserves it, it would 100% be Lara. Because Lara isn’t on the 40, Yelich is already close to returning and it’s simple and cleaner, it’ll be Perkins.
  11. Probably one of the most complete and satisfying wins of the season, though those 4 runs in the second were pretty infuriating if you’re the other team. A little bizarre to be on pace for exactly 90 wins and feel like it’s kind of been a struggle this year.
  12. Yeah it’s fine IMO… it doesn’t mean that best wishes don’t go out to Lockridge. It means roster decisions will result. He's not dying. Looks serious and long-term, but career ending is highly speculative. I remember when Yelich completely smashed his kneecap some years back. My guess is Perkins is back up for a bit and then back down when Yelich returns. Black probably stays for now.
  13. Hate to see that. Think he might be out awhile.
  14. Gotta be hitting the bottle tonight or being sarcastic. I’ve never heard anyone describe Giannis like this. Did he use his position to influence team moves to an unfortunate end? Possibly, but my presumption is that he had the best of intentions and probably has some regret about it. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen an NBA superstar more humble and less diva-like.
  15. Hamilton has been exactly who he has always been. He’s a meet expectations guy to me. I don’t think any of the roster is too far off from their expected norms other than Frelick and a few guys in the pen. Not being healthy has hurt.
  16. Last year was kind of the big monkey off our back. I can’t tell you how unsatisfying the end of last season would have been if we had lost game 5 to the Cubs. But, we didn’t. Got the monkey off our back, got rid of the “they can’t win a playoff series” talk, and did it against our hated rivals. The Dodgers series sucked, but I was pretty much at peace with whatever happened at that point. I’m ok with however we can get into the playoffs every year at this point. Just get in and hope the randomness of baseball finally swings in our direction one of these Octobers. One thing about last year is that it really felt like the gap has widened between the teams with deep pockets and the teams without deep pockets since our last deep run in 2018. But maybe that’s just the Dodgers going on a bender at the worst possible time for everyone else. Or, maybe it’s something that will be addressed in the new CBA.
  17. https://www.espn.com/mlb/standings/_/view/wild-card Somehow, we are back in a playoff spot! Of course, we’d have to face the Dodgers in the WC round.
  18. He was horridly inconsistent. He didn’t lock down a rotation spot as expected. He had an ERA over 4.50 and was a below replacement level player. The strikeout prowess was still there. That was the positive. Surely we had higher expectations than taking the ball every 5th day. Also — giving up 9 hits and 3 ER in 5 innings is keeping your team in the team ? Going 4 innings and giving up 3 earned is keeping your team in the game ? Talk about a low bar.
  19. No, it didn’t make sense to me at the time and I said so at the time. Maybe it made sense to you. Maybe I just really didn’t like Montas. He was not the only SP option out there. It's also a little biased to call Wiemer’s start “fluky” when we just don’t know yet. You’re just looking to downplay it without any real reason to do so yet. I really don’t care whether Wiemer keeps it up, as I’ve said, any team could have claimed him, so I’m not claiming it was some awful oversight. But you’re simply not giving any credit where it’s due.
  20. The amount of blowback in here when anyone suggests that Frankie Montas was not that great of an acquisition, is always something to behold. He was modestly better for us than the complete liability he has become since then, I’ll grant that. Its whatever, I’ve never said it was that big of a deal, and I’ve transparently said numerous times that Wiemer could have been acquired by anyone since then. I just never liked Montas much, and didn’t like the deal. It was definitely not one of Arnold’s better ones. Obviously he’s had a good track record overall, I think we can certainly agree though, that he would have been playing over Greg Jones and Blake Perkins this season.
  21. I’ll take a split in St Louis. Still trending in the right direction. Catch em one at a time - tough part of the schedule coming up, so hopefully we can get through it okay.
  22. You don’t hit nearly well enough to boot that ball.
  23. All Ortiz needs to do to get in the lineup every day is to just not be an atrocious hitter and it’s a bar he can’t clear.
  24. Help me understand why/when the umpires can just refuse to let you challenge.
