  1. On Monday evening, State Senator Chris Larson held a town hall meeting on the subject which I attended. Included a 22-slide presentation. Very informative. This is a non-political website, so that is all I will say.
  2. OK, I'm naive. Josh Donaldson was added to the 40-man on September 11. Why is he eligible?
  3. OFF: P Julio Teheran, desiganted for assignment ON: P Caleb Boushley, seleceted The 40-man roster remains full. Three players on the 60-day IL.
  4. OFF: 3B Brian Anderson, designated for assignment ON: OF Garrett Mitchell, activated The 40-man roster remains full. Three players on the 60-day IL.
  5. Overview Cooperstown is a quaint little village of about 2,000 at the tip of Otsego Lake. Kinda gives me a Door County-ish vibe. My wife and I visited in September, so it was off-season. If you go in the summer, your experience could be a bit different than ours. Travel Cooperstown is about 2:00 from the Albany airport. I am unsure of the distance from the Syracuse airport. There is no rail nor other public transportation. You will need a car. Lodging Three chain hotels are in the area. They are not located in the village. They are about ten minutes away. Their business addresses are Milford, NY. I say the Holiday Inn is a bit nicer than the Best Western, and the Best Western is a bit nicer than the Comfort Inn. The prices reflect that. We stayed at the Comfort Inn for two nights and were satisfied. Then again, we are not too particular. If you want to try something different and willing to spend a bit more, the Lake Front Hotel is located at the lakeshore. It is within walking distance of the business district. It’s like you are staying in Fish Creek. It looks passable from the outside and the online reviews are favorable. If things are full, the village of Oneonta has four chain hotels and is located thirty minutes to the south. Meals We ate at the Upstate Bar and Grill the first night. I liked the décor, akin to an Appleby’s. Plenty of screens which allowed me the opportunity to watch the local Mets trot out Phil Bickford and Trevor Gott as I enjoyed my Mushroom and Swiss burger. They had a nice bar which I wanted to try the second night. However, no Sam Adams and no one chatted with us. We got some appetizers at the Lake Front Restaurant after our museum visit. Outdoor seating was available, but passed as my wife was fighting off a cold. The second night we ate at an Italian place that was a bit pricey. Maybe a couple of diners in the business district, but didn’t look open for dinner. Parking Street parking in the village is limited to two hours. The lot at Doubleday Field is unlimited for $15 which you pay at the kiosk. We all-day parked at an adjacent private lot where I put $15 cash in an envelope and slipped into the slot. In the summer, park-and-ride trolleys are available. One north of town and one south of town. Hall of Fame $28 adult admission. Summer hours 10:00-19:00. Off-season 10:00-17:00. The museum has three floors. You enter on the first floor. They recommend you start at the second floor. Second Floor – a movie theater where you can screen a fifteen-minute film celebrating the sport. Produced by the same person who did “42”. This floor focused on the early beginnings and evolution of the game. Individual exhibits honoring the icons of the game. Also, tributes to the Negro Leagues and women in baseball. We spent 3.5 hours here. I’m the kind of person who reads and studies EVERYTHING. Third Floor – focus on the fan experience. Stadiums and collectables. I did an interaction where I had five jpgs made up of myself with five classic card styles (’75 Topps, ’87 Topps, etc). Since time was getting low, only spent 1:45 here, but could have spent another hour easily. First Floor – I did an interaction where I had a jpg made up with my own plaque. Then went into the room with the plaques. This all took thirty minutes. Then fifteen minutes in the gift shop. Then it was closing time. The museum does not have a snack shop nor food court. Re-entry is allowed, if you need to get lunch. We arrived at 10:45 and needed every minute. I didn’t sit down once. I’d suggest arriving as the doors open. Summary A wonderful experience. I recommend all lovers of baseball make the pilgrimage once in their lifetime.
  6. And the airline found our luggage and returned it the same day, which is not bugging me. Even though it bugged me it was checked, tagged and sent on a completely different flight (a different thread for that).
  7. Actually, we did a seven-day circle tour of New England. The first five days belonged to my wife, with the stipulation that Day #6 was mine (Cooperstown). We flew in and out of Providence. I cannot recommend an airport. Cooperstown is about 2:00 from Albany. I suspect Syracuse is the same distance. You'll need a rental car. I'm willing to do a trip report. Members can private message me and if enough interest exists, I can put something together. No interest, then no report.
  8. And I made it home this morning, so I am able to watch the division clinching game. Actually glad the Cubs won yesterday.
  9. I've just checked in at the Comfort Inn in Cooperstown, NY. That is not bugging me. Two nights at $260 total. That is not bugging me. (given some the rates I have been paying the last few days). All the guests are here for the same reason.
  10. And this is the stuff I purchased yesterday. I head out on vacation Saturday and this stuff has two days to kick in. Never let me down before.
  11. Sorry I fell behind on this. Life had been busy lately. OFF: P Bennett Sousa, waived P J.C. Mejia, 60-day IL ON: P Thyago Vieira, selected 3B Josh Donaldson, selected The 40-man roster remains full.
  12. My bad, thinking David Clyde. First-overall pick of Texas, 1973 (bypassing Yount). Straight to the majors, 22 days after being drafted. Didn't pan out well. "He started one game in 1975, injured his shoulder and was demoted to the minors. He toiled there for three seasons, his maturation and development stunted by shoulder surgery in 1976. In 1978, the Rangers traded Clyde to the Cleveland Indians and one year later – at the age of 24 – he was gone from MLB."
  13. Some of us are old enough to remember David Wright. Hopefully, Schanuel has a better fate.
  14. The WIAA already does this for high schools. Your idea is the best way to go.
  15. Yes. Wouldn't be fair to Mitchell to not award him service time.
  16. ON: P Bennett Sousa, reinstated. OFF: P Justin Wilson, 60-day IL The roster is full at 40, plus five on the 60-day IL.
  17. ON: P Brandon Woodruff, reinstated. The roster is full at 40, plus four on the 60-day IL.

I had friends who played soccer in high school. I ran cross country, and football players did not get along with neither of us. So I guess "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation. My first taste of watching the sport was the 1986 WC. I had to take a job in rural Wisconsin for a couple of years and the vibe I got was "only football and basketball players are athletes". I can understand if your school didn't have a team and none of your friends played soccer, as well as other niche sports. I missed large parts of the '10 and '11 World Cups because good luck finding a bar that will put the games on. So I tip my hat to you for being willing to try something new.

I think it was 1998 MJS published a cartoon stating so, after the Rampage then Wave won their leagues within the previous twelve months.
  20. IIRC, Hardy only played one month the previous season, at AAA Indy.
  21. IN: P Andrew Chafin, traded (Diamondbacks) OUT: P Peter Strzelecki, traded (Diamondbacks); IF Luis Urias, traded (Red Sox) The roster is at 39, plus five on the 60-day IL.
  22. IN: 1B/OF Mark Canha, traded (Mets) for minor leaguer Justin Jarvis. OUT: Jake Cousins, waived The roster is full at 40, plus five on the 60-day IL.
  23. IN: 1B Carlos Santana, traded (Pirates) exchanged for minor leaguer Jhonny Severino. The roster is full at 40, plus five on the 60-day IL.

Nice recovery by the Americans last night (today) to earn the draw. However, that result means they didn't clinch advancement and a loss to POR on Tuesday means elimination.
