  1. Catching up OFF: P Enoli Paredes, 60-day IL ON: P DL Hall, activated The 40-man roster is full.
  2. I had to look at your list, but I know the three, and I can't be much younger than you.
  3. Final Observations: Americans never had a chance in volleyball against ITA. Kat Plummer's serve receive reminded me of when her Stanford team came to Madison in 2016 and everyone thought that was something the Badgers could exploit, but in the end the Badgers lost in 5 in the Regional Final. If the French women had someone who could shoot a three, the Americans would have been in trouble. The women's marathon had five big names and three of them were together with 1 km to go. Sifan Hassan's efforts were amazing. When I did a marathon, two days out was a complete rest day. Hassan raced and medaled two days out. NCAA D2 walk-on Dakota Lindwurm places 12th. Gotta love it.
  4. Nothing much more to add here. Gabby Thomas is one of my favorites. Neurobiology from Harvard. A well-spoken person. Hard not to root for. I was unaware of Kenny Bednarek while he was in high school. Must have dominated NW Wisconsin. Sometimes it's about who is NOT in the room. No mentioning of Athing Mu (800m) nor Mariya Lasitskene (high jump). John Anderson doing T&F on peacock, still waiting to hear his usual Wisconsin references. Lauren Carlini and Dana Rettke playing for volleyball gold Sunday 6 am. Two marathon races televised live the next two nights at 1 am. Who's with me?
  5. Sunday's observations: Gold medal match in archery. The American and Korean hit 10's the final three shots to force one shot winner-take-all. The Korean is 5 mm closer to bullseye. Their heart bpm ~90, these guys need to hit the cardio. The Canadian hammer thrower is a dead ringer for David Crosby. Crosby may have had gold records, but not a gold medal. Women's high jump - Ukranian Yaraslova Mahuchikh wins gold, in part due to the defending champion is Russian and not there. Karma. 100m - my wife and I thought Thompson won it. Surprised to see Lyles with the win. Not a big Lyles fan, but I guess he's good for the sport. Some are calling it the best race ever. Monday's observations: Didn't watch anything on NBC, all on peacock (replay) as soon as I got home. W 5000 had several giants of the sport. One gets DQ'd and stripped of silver. Pole Vault - my highlight so far. Watching on peacock, they showed everything. The running events long completed, yet no one left the stadium. There just to watch one person only, and Mondo did not disappoint. Representing Sweden, of course the stadium plays "Dancing Queen" while he celebrates his WR. Makes my peacock subscription worth it.
  6. Almost did the same thing at the 2022 World Championships. USA and DOM were heading to the finish and were the only two on the screen and Bol comes from nowhere into the screen to get the American but not the Dominican at the end. Saturday, she redeemed herself after last year's WC where she was caught at the end, tripped over herself, dropped the baton and was DQ'd.
  7. Introduced in the 2019 World Championships, as well as '22 and '23. 2020 Tokyo Olympics. At first, the order didn't matter. So you had M and F running mono-a-mono. The rules have since been tweaked so everyone is M v M and F v F. When POL won Tokyo, the pure joy on their faces as they crossed the finish line was a highlight of the games. This is the most fun event to watch and you can see the athletes getting into it. Not all are into yet. Some teams send B-List runners while others (NED, POL) send A-List runners. Swimming also does this, but no designated sex order. More strategic due to constraint (two members each sex) and all four strokes have to be done.
  8. Saturday's observations: My first chance to post. I don't get too excited about medal totals in swimming. It's false to compare against athletes in other sports. However, Ledecky's fourth straight gold in the same events transcends all sports. Richardson was slow getting out of the blocks in both the semi and final 100. It wasn't even close. My favorite trackster isn't American, it's Dutch Femke Bol. The Dutch put her in to anchor the mixed-sex 4x4. In the last 150 meters, she goes from 4th to 1st to win gold. It's like having Ohtani as a pinch-hitter.
  9. I watching the men's gold medal match this morning. The thing is, they don't shoot straight, they have to arc it. And the exit velocity is like 120 mph.
  10. Friday observations: I'm noticing a pattern. Two American s can be in a final, but if only one medals, only that person gets interviewed. Really, NBC? I notice the schedule for this weekend and see a pattern. The marquee events in gymnastics, swimming and T&F are staggered to minimize the overlap and can be viewed live in North America in the early afternoon.
  11. Thursday observations: Watched the women's AA. It was a two-way battle for gold and a three-way for bronze. Unless I turned my head away for a moment, NBC didn't show the final standings. Would have been nice to see how spread out everyone ended up. Really, NBC? People complain about the numerous "up-close" features. I found the one on Katie Douglass informative and value-added. The pieces on Simone and Suni were unnecessary, people who care already know who they are. Really, NBC? Ex-Badger Phoebe Bacon swims today in one of the finals. Being middle-Friday, track begins today. After NBC's highly panned production of the trials, I'll be watching most of it on peacock. My understanding is they will be using Europe's feed. Beginning 1730 today through the weekend, my plan is to be on the couch taking as much in. As you can see, I have issues with NBC. My rants should decrease as my usage of peacock increases.
  12. Good to see the discussion picking up. I haven't seen anything too compelling as of yet. I liked how the crowd "serenated" the French butterfly dude each time he came up for air. Ex-Badger Lauren Carlini deactivated from the volleyball team after one match. Hope she comes back so I can at least watch her.
  13. OFF: OF Joey Weimer, traded P Jakob Junis, traded ON: P Frankie Montas, acquired P Joe Ross, activated The 40-man roster is full.
  14. OFF: P Bradley Blalock, traded P Janson Junk, DFA ON: P Nick Mears, acquired P Devin Williams, activated The 40-man roster is full.
  15. It's that time of the quadrennial again. I liked the outside-the-box thinking for the OC. The Parade of Nations along the Seine, then the streets of Paris instead of a stadium. The absence of Weir/Lapinski as commentators was noticeable. I was OK with Clarkson/Manning. Interesting combination. I like Mike Turico as host.
  16. OFF: P Joel Kuhnel, DFA ON: P Tyler Jay, acquired The 40-man roster is full.
  17. THIS. After 37 years, I'm finally starting to get over it. My only reason to dislike the Vikings was Randle/Moss, and they're both long retired. Other than that, I don't understand the dislike of Minnesota by Wisconsinites. The demographics are so similar. -- Finally, I turned this off after the eleventh. I just can't stand watching road extras.
  18. OFF: 2B Oliver Dunn, 60-day IL ON: OF Brewer Hicklen, selected The 40-man roster is full.
  19. Correction: I watched Aguillar underachieve.
  20. I think the last time I watched the HR derby was when Burnitz dropped the s-bomb.
  21. Contreras - 5 big hits Hoskins - 5 big hits, 1 big whiff Adames - 5 big hits, 2 big whiffs Churio - 3 big hits Sanchez - 3 big hits Yelich - 3 big hits Ortiz - 2 big hits Bauers - 2 big hits, 1 big whiff Perkins - 2 big hits, 2 big whiffs Frelick - 1 big hit Haase - 1 big hit Monasterio - 1 big hit Turang - 0 big hits, 1 big whiff
  22. OFF: P Dallas Keuchel, DFA ON: P Joel Kuhnel, selected The 40-man roster is full.
  23. OFF: P Taylor Clarke, DFA ON: P Aaron Civale, acquired The 40-man roster is full.
  24. I only briefly watched Tuesday's telecast. Wasn't something quickly mentioned? I didn't quite catch it.
