  1. Why? Spring Training doesn't start for another 53ish days. If they add a deadline and force all of the signings then the fans would still be sitting around with nothing to talk about for months. This longer period gives time for GMs to talk to agents and other teams. It also gives some injured players time to rehab a bit more before a team needs to commit. I think a deadline would create a dull period where no signings or trades happen.
  2. WAR and oWAR take position into account. So a good hitting 3B or SS/CF will beat a slightly better hitting first baseman. Most modern stats adjust for position or ballpark. I think Runs Created doesn't do any adjustment but is a counting stat. Offensive Winning Percentage takes RC and calculates into a percentage so longevity doesn't artificially inflate the numbers. Longevity can deflate the numbers since one is less productive as they age, but this seems like the best stat to use. 1. Fielder .702 2. Yelich .691 (will probably go down as he ages) 3. Braun .667 4. Briggs .650 5. Sexson ..641 6. Molitor .637 7. Harper .624 8. Lexcano .614 9. A-Ram .613 10. Scott .608 There are drawbacks to using OWP but there are several stats on the BR site where Fielder is #1 in franchise history. To me it's like asking "who is the best baseball player ever". I'll give you a shortlist and not really care what order they are in. I think the best Brewer hitter ever is Braun/Fielder/Yount/Molitor. They are in the superposition of being #1. Which one you see on top has more to do with how you are looking at them than whether one is better than the other.
  3. Like the time Melvin claimed he wasn't going to trade Overbay and he'd just have two first basemen on the team. Or what Ricketts said about David Ross at the end of the season. I expect anything a GM tells the media on the record is not their true thoughts.
  4. RightFieldCoder is available could probably be gotten for a million or two. I'd put that in blue but there is no sarcasm in being available for seven figures.
  5. I bet if Bos or NY had been in first and Bal/TB/Tor had grabbed 3 pitchers we would have seen Manfred quash the deal.
  6. I started posting them in the Brewers Optimism thread because I didn't want to be the one to start a thread and cause a jinx. But I do feel better after yesterday's win.
  7. The catcher was standing on the first base line. There was nothing for Wiemer to do. So he jogged over and had a joke with the catcher. About the same as if he just turned around and went back to the dugout.
  8. I wish they would do this for every game. No announcers and no graphics. Just straight baseball. And now it's ruined.
  9. I was looking at his BR page and noticed his middle name is Ryan. That would make his full name Nolan Ryan Schanuel.
  10. I went to Wikipedia to compile the Milwaukee All Star Record. The Brewers are 14-38-1. The franchise is 14-39-1. Just counting Milwaukee baseball teams the record is 25-43-2. Milwaukee is 1-1-1 at home if you include the 12th inning win in 1955. While looking this up I noticed the 2024 ASG will be at Globe Life Field and the 2026 ASG will be at Citizen's Bank Park. I thought it was really odd that they scheduled the '26 game without scheduling the '25 game. And CBP is built so it isn't an issue of waiting for construction. I read the citation and got reminded that 2026 will be the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. So pretty cool that MLB planned that out.
  11. Back in my day teams wore pinstripes at home and powder blue on the road.
  12. To be fair about that trade, we sent Wong (-1.1 WAR by himself) for Winker (-0.6) and Toro (+0.1) so it could be seen as a net plus move.
  13. With the highest batting average among them of .252. Facing a lineup with 6 guys with 7 homers with a BA higher than .274.
  14. Enrique Cruz was picked up by a team that had just lost 106 games. That is the type of team that should be drafting Rule V players, not the one that has playoff hopes.
  15. We do this again. So we all write in Haiku because of Hawing
  16. They wanted to give a runner a slight advantage. They wanted to increase attempted steals (and to a lesser extent taking an extra base). Players are told to not steal as much because of the chance of an out is too high. So they are lowering the chance of an out.
  17. I have no kids and love my Switch. I play it more than the Xbox or PS4. I can play it on the big screen or pop it out into handheld mode when the wife or I want to watch something else on the TV as well. It helps that I was always a Mario and Animal Crossing fan. I played it so much my wife asked for one last March so she could have her own Animal Crossing town.
  18. It depends on how long you plan on staying. If you are planning on quitting this summer, is different than staying there for another 2+ years. Try being honest with them on how long you planning on staying. They may let you have the job back temporarily while they look for a more "permanent" employee. It will get someone to do the job while they are searching and they wouldn't have to train you.
