  1. That's because most of us are crying too hard to post anything.
  2. They probably already know the verdict. However it takes days for the lawyers to argue every word of the official judgement.
  3. Pretty cool, I can't wait to see the final version of your game. I hope you made/make it far enough to finish it. I like how the YouTube site for The Next Game Boss lists the year "2012-2036". Now that's confidence. But what happens if 2036 comes around and they're the biggest thing on the net? Will they end it because of some intern's joke from 25 years ago? Ah, the questions we ask in the first world.
  4. Saito's salary is depressed because of his age. Saito will hit a wall one of these years, and a team offsets that risk with a lower salary. He also can't pitch back to back days anymore. You don't have these problems with Veras.
  5. I graduated from school, only have one job again, and have sold my house. All of my excuses from previous years are gone. I'm back in if you want me. I need a new jersey, I wore out my last one. There is Black/White and Blue/White. Does it matter which one I get?
  6. I strongly disagree, but McGehee had a positive WAR last year so I'd actually take it~. He kind of lucked into that WAR with what was probably a flukey defensive performance but I'd still take it! I know there are different WARs, but Baseball Reference has him at -1.0 WAR in 2011 (-1.4 oWAR with a .4 dWAR). That would make him worse than a "replacement level" 3B on offense and about replacement level defensively. I agree about the dWAR, but will be horrified if his oWAR isn't at least 1.5 WAR better than McSuckee.
  7. Probably because it's all in the hands of the single independent arbitrator. If that person doesn't talk, nobody has any information to pass. With the drug testing, there were tens of people who could have leaked it.
  8. I don't know if he could have said he was "going for it this year" by trading for a guy that had never seen the majors before. I'm also not sure if that signing would have been enough to convince ZG to waive his no trade clause.
  9. How accurate are those depth charts? I always thought that was just the web guys (like McCalvy) guessing about who will back up what.
  10. Yeah, that did happen. And somebody off camera from the direction of the owner cleared his throat. Prince looked over to the owner and then corrected himself. It's not just the difference between the sports. Yankee fans never had to worry about enjoying Jeter because he would probably leave after six years.
  11. LaPorta was also a can't miss prospect that we could have had for 6 years. You never know which prospect will blossom and who will turn into Ryan Leaf.
  12. JJ Hardy screwed things up with JJ Hardy. It took him being run out of two cities to actually get back into shape and work on his game again.I'm not challenging you at all -- I would be very happy to know you were right about this, because it would mean this wasn't so much of a screw-up by the Brewers -- but I haven't heard this sort of account about Hardy before. Is this just your sense of what happened, or are you basing this on specific information?JJ's horrible rookie year: .711 OPS | 86 OPS+JJ's last year with MKE: .659 OPS | 75 OPS+JJ's year with MSP: .714 OPS | 96 OPS+ Something caused him to drop .100 points in OPS for two years, only to get it all back when he's in line to get a new contract.
  13. I don't really care, as long as the G Men start games #1 and #2. Order isn't that big of a deal.
  14. They are 39th. We are smaller than one of our minor league affiliates (#38 is Nashville). We are more than 12x smaller than NY (or 6x if you divide NY evenly between the 2 teams). We are only 76% the size of the next smallest MLB market (#29 KC). We are the definition of small market. We are doing great in attendance. This is because we sucked so bad and had a lot of high draft picks. What happens when we have a sustained run, don't have top 10 picks every year, and then go back to having losing seasons?
  15. It is just confusing for this year. The CBA wasn't signed until the 11-12 offseason. Teams had been planning during the 11 season to keep using the old rules. They decided to have a complicated rule set for this offseason so no team would get screwed over, but would also slightly follow the new rules. For example, you now need to have a player on your team for the full year to get compensation for losing a player. This means that we wouldn't get anything for K-Rod if we lost him. But when we traded for him in July, we thought we would get at least a Type B pick for "losing" him. It wouldn't be fair to the Brewers (or other teams who made mid season moves) to say "You traded away prospects for a rental and draft picks, but the new rules say no draft picks". Going forward, the compensation rules are simpler than the old Type A:Type B system. There will no longer be any Type As or Type Bs. You are allowed to offer arbitration to any FA player at the average of the top 125 salaries. In 2011 this would be ~$12M. If the player signs elsewhere, you get an extra draft pick. If you offer arbitration for anything less than the average, or if the player spent any part of the year for a different team, you will get nothing for losing the player.
  16. I remember back in the 02-05 years when I was excited to see people wearing Brewers gear in Milwaukee during the season.
  17. That's crazy. Who did you go through? This ended up not being too bad. I actually lost $172.82 because most of the stocks went down between Monday and Tuesday. However, despite the Dow Jones losing 0.4% this week, this account was up $269.05 or 1.64% on the week. So I'm net up $96.23 taking into account my mistake.
  18. The Tigers were also two wins away from a WS without Fielder in the lineup.
  19. I was there for HR #1. While he was circling the bases I leaned over to my now ex and told her she just witnessed the first HR of a HOFer. I was there for his MP inside the park HR. You can still this dork in the replays. The ball "stuck under the fence" right in front of me. You can even see the moment I realize the Fielder is leaving second base and the ump is giving the safe sign. I know there is no way the player will be able to get him out at home. His only hope is for the ump to change his mind and call it a double, which he didn't. I was there for HR #230 (his last regular season HR as a Brewer). It was hit right at me. I had my glove ready to catch it. I was fighting off the guy trying to jump over me from behind. I lady two seats to my left leaned over and put her glove in front of mine. One of the saddest moments of my life, that I didn't get that ball. I was there for Game 2 of the 2011 NLCS. We decided to leave early since we were blown out in the top of the 8th inning. I stopped my family at the top of the section. Fielder was coming up in the bottom. I announced that I wanted to see Fielder's last HR in a Brewers uniform. I was chided for that remark because the rest of my family firmly believed that we would make the WS. They also believed we would resign him. Prince gave me one last goodbye and hit a HR right in front of us. It was his last. Prince gave me many more memories over 6+ years. I'm bitter right now, but I know it's just the sting of losing something you want to have forever. Fielder made the best decision for him and his family. It's not like this is a surprise (like with Molitor). We've seen this coming for years, ever since he hired Boras. I wish Fielder the best of luck in the future. My only parting shot is to wish the Brewers win a ring before him.
  20. Maybe they can go back to being the Colt .45's.
  21. Best case scenario, we pay Prince $25M. Those 8 players would cost us $70M in 2013. If we raise payroll all the way to $110M, we only have $40M left for 17 players. If 15 were paid minimum wage, that leaves $33M for 2 starting pitchers. So we would have that lineup and two $15M pitchers, but the rest of the lineup would be pre-arby players. I'm not sure we could make that work.
  22. Estrada is a great starter candidate for the 03-05 Brewers. Not for a team trying to make the playoffs. He'll become a decent starter if he gets traded to a team that can afford to let him start (Royals, Astros, etc).
  23. +1. Anyone using fielding percentage to defend Fielder doesn't watch him at first. His range is terrible, his picking ability is terrible, his arm is terrible. He made a couple nice plays in the post-season but he is a really bad first basemen.This. If the ball bounces in front of him and he doesn't scoop it, it's an error on the guy who threw it. If the ball is two feet off the base and he has to take his foot off because he has the range of a T-Rex, it's an error on the guy who threw it. If he uses his flab to stop the ball and soft tosses it home too late to stop the runner from scoring, it's a literal Fielder's Choice and not an error. If he does a belly flop onto the dirt and doesn't land on the ball as it goes into the outfield, it counts as a hit. You are also including in Gamel's numbers his first experience at 1B when he was learning the position. Prince wasn't converted to 1B and had to learn it a year before coming up.
  24. Starting to feel the pressure of not having enough for retirement, I spent a week finding stocks to invest in for my IRA. My IRA only has $16k in it, but I'm only 32 and have 402(k)s invested elsewhere so I'm not doomed. I found 17 stocks to invest in. I didn't want to split them evenly since I had different confidence in each. I made a spreadsheet on Friday and figured out what percentage of my total cash I wanted to invest in each stock. I sold off what stocks I did have and waited to see how much cash I would have available on Monday morning. I entered this number into a square in my spreadsheet. All the number crunched and it showed me how many shares to buy of each stock. I decided to check my account again that (last) night. All of my buy transactions went through. At the bottom of the page it said I had a cash value of -$5,517.22. I stared at it in shock. I double checked my spreadsheet and all of the orders placed and they all matched. I suddenly realized that I hadn't typed in the amount of cash on hand. I had kept cash in two mutual funds and had used Total Account Value instead of Cash on Hand. And I had mistyped the number. I had one of three choices. Come up with the missing cash to pay the broker (which I don't have), sell off positions to make up for it, or let them manage my account to make up for it. Because I had mistyped the number, I would still be $1500 short if I sold my last mutual funds (which is fee free). I just entered in the correct amount into my spreadsheet and issued 17 partial sell orders to get my account to how I originally wanted it. This error cost me $152.15 (plus interest for the next 25 years) in commission fees. I don't even have the satisfaction of blaming someone or something else. I made a mistake and it cost me.
  25. I wouldn't mind the Nats becoming a good team, but I hope whatever team signs Prince doesn't sniff .500. Maybe I'm being the bitter ex, but I hope he looks back in a few years and wistfully wishes he had signed with us.
