  1. It's $50 to sit in the bleachers, $440 to sit behind the plate. It's a lot of money to see a bad home team play a game.
  2. The Brewers count tickets sold. There were a lot of games at the beginning of this millennium where there were maybe half the number of people in the stadium to what they listed as attendance.
  3. Counsell always hit well in bases loaded situations because he always tried to ambush the first pitch. He said the pitcher won't want to risk the walk and will throw it over the heart of the plate. That first pitch is often times the best pitch you'll see. I don't blame the mind set, I blame his baseball ability.
  4. Old MLBPA players are not suing the MLB for too many injuries.
  5. Not really news. They've offered that for years. JaDerHeyski and I have been pricing them out, but it is just outside our price range.
  6. [sarcasm]Remember, The Cards are a fragile team that will have tons of injuries.[/sarcasm] Injuries are mostly luck based.
  7. Maybe they see it as revenge for the amount of boos Barry received when he played in Milwaukee?
  8. I think Sveum actually lowered them a bit.
  9. White-Hispanic!
  10. But it's the 7th inning. That means Veras. That's what DPR's book says.[/blue]
  11. Our engagement party was today. Her parents are Cardinal fans. Real fun, Brewers.
  12. Sorry. Already voted Gil.
  13. Something we noticed at Monday's game. There are now two lights shining up at the American flag, which is good since it is in a dark corner of the stadium.
  14. Using the same logic, because Ruth, Speaker, and DiMaggio, etc would not be able to hit modern pitchers like Halladay and Verlander they are not "all-time greats". You have to judge players by their contemporaries.
  15. [sarcasm]As soon as Lucroy learns to play a different position.[/sarcasm]
  16. A: Hart should have called off Weeks. But Weeks seems to be the current Captain of the team, so players will peel off if he is calling for it. Hart should have demanded to take the ball. B: Hart was worried about the wall and getting injured from it again. I'll take a little less defense near that wall if it prevents Hart from getting injured. C: Off the bat, I thought it was a clean double with maybe a chance of keeping it a single. I was worried when Hart was running to make a catch instead of just trying to play it off the wall. I was shocked he got a glove on it. I'm not discounting his D because of that play.
  17. More trades, but less of a haul. We traded 4 prospects for CC because we knew he would net us 2 comp picks.
  18. I think everyone on the field is a former SS at some point. That is where you put your best players in the younger leagues. They then get bumped out of that position when better they play in better leagues with other better SS.
  19. No. As soon as the league figures out that they have to actually pay attention to a 1B, it will go down. Just like a great OFer likely has less assists his second year.
  20. Gomez was the emergency infielder. He would probably man SS and Ishy would go to RF.
  21. Last night's attendance for the defending NL Central champs: 27,159. April is just a hard draw in a lot of places. I'm not going to dump on Miami for low attendance until I see the whole season.
  22. Earl Weaver was all about the OBP. You had to have people getting on base all the time to get those 3 run homers. The "Moneyball" approach would not currently mean getting high OBP guys. Moneyball was about getting guys that were undervalued by other teams. If teams value a player as a 0 win player but you think he's worth 3 wins, you can offer him the contract of a 1 win player and outbid all the other teams yet still be cheap. OBP is not something currently undervalued. If anything, we have gone the Moneyball way. Everyone's preaching OBP and defense. We went with power guys that other teams don't want (because of the low OBP and bad defense).
  23. I don't remember any mutilated Fielder jerseys during opening weekend.
