  1. They started it in conjunction with their 40th anniversary celebration. which makes me think there should be more than 40 this year.
  2. The Fantastic 40 is back. Buy your tickets now.
  3. I like how Kilgore claimed it was Fielder's "star power" that caused 3.3 million fans in Miller Park. And here I was thinking it was our 2nd best record in the NL, or best home record in baseball that was causing that many fans to show up.
  4. My prediction is that the Braun suspension will kill us in more than one way. Besides not having an MVP for nearly 1/3 of the season, Melvin will use that excuse to not give up on the year. "We're only eight games out, and that. But that was without an MVP player in Braun. Now that we have Braun we can make a push to get back into first. There's no reason to trade away players at this point, and that." Instead of acquiring young talent, we'll trade away more prospects for "proven veterans" like Hairston with one or two years left to shore up the MLB staff. We'll let Greinke walk for nothing. We might sign Marcum, but I expect him to either walk or get hurt and hang another albatross contract on us. I am very scared for what 2013+ will bring to Brewer fans.
  5. I "finished" Skyrim two weeks ago (100% acheivement completion, you don't really finish it). I've been working on The Sabotuer and almost have that finished. I just bought Majin and Bully to work on next. After them I'll borrow AC from my brother. I just got Uncharted (the first one) for Christmas, so I'll need to find time for that also.
  6. In order: Brewers Cowboys Redwings UCLA Wisconsin Colts Blue Jays
  7. I'm listening to the Mark Belling (Milwaukee area radio host for those that don't know) year end quiz on podcast (it occurred last night). Question : Who was the number one catcher for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2011? First answer : George Kottaras? Next four answers: No idea Caller number six was finally able to get the correct answer. It blew me away that many callers didn't know this. edit: JaDerHeyski's response when I told her: "Maybe he only went to Randy Wolf starts?"
  8. Because of the dead link, I searched for the info myself. RIP random unknown chip? ----- Continued here: viewtopic.php?f=67&t=30500
  9. Bandwagon. It would amaze me when I'd see other people wearing Brewers gear in stores in the beginning of the millennium. Just like it was a shock to see Packers gear during Bush 41's presidency. The teams are good and now everyone's "always been a fan".
  10. It wasn't just that Prince rejected our offer and we gave him our regular near (MLB) minimum. It was also that his good friend Weeks had gotten a MLB contract right away and was making over $1M a year since 03. That was what prompted him to go out and get an agent who promised to get him the most money. I found the article referenced in the dead link. When looking up the salary info, I was happy to see that BF.net is the sponsor of Week's BaseballReference page. I didn't know BF.net sponsored any.
  11. FWIW, we didn't give extra to Prince after becoming the youngest player to hit 50 HRs. I don't think we'll give extra to Ax for having a nice 73 IP unless it is in a team friendly contract for arbitration years.
  12. I'm bummed about this deal. Hopefully he keeps the September division chase charm his teams had in previous years.
  13. Crud, 33 years old? That just makes me sadder that I'm 32 and still don't have a job in MLB. Best of luck Joe.
  14. The time we let him go should have been the day after we traded for Greinke.
  15. List of Brewers making more than $5M next year per BF.net and my arby guessing: Greinke 13.5M Rodriguez 10M? Weeks 10M Wolf 9.5M Hart 9M Braun 6M Ramirez 6M Gallardo 5.5M Marcum 5M+? Most here believe we need more pitching (and that you always need more pitching). So let's take starting pitchers off the list. Now we have: Rodriguez, Weeks, Hart, Braun, Ramirez We aren't trading A-Ram, Weeks, or Braun. That leaves Rodriguez and Hart as the "expensive" players to trade to reduce payroll. Since no one seemed interested in K-Rod in the open market, I'm not sure there would be many trading partners that would make a trade giving us payroll flexibility. So it's less about wanting to trade Hart and more of Hart being the best piece to trade with the combination of lowering payroll, actually getting something back in the trade, and being expendable on the team. He's not really expendable but seems so compared to Braun (HoF talent) and Weeks (plays a position with less talented players).
  16. I watch every morning because there isn't much else to watch at 5am while getting ready for work. I can also pay only half attention while doing other things and still get everything important. Dirty Dining can be thought of as news, albeit lazy news. It takes public records and informs people of the results of government inspections. It provides a small benefit to the public. Speedbusters is not news. "My dog got hit by a car". "The police should spend all of their time on this road to monitor speed limits because this is the only road in Milwaukee where people speed". "This is the worst problem going on right now". I know speeding is a problem, but they act like they are finding the only spots where speeding happens. It was funny watching them talk about Texas's latest snow storm. The weather guy had a sad look on his face. You could tell he wished it had hit here so he could go nuts about it.
  17. They also have "news" items in their morning shows about new apps that are available and how to use them. It's possible he takes drugs for some condition. He might not have tested positive before or after because it's 1) a new drug that just came out he just switched to and it only effects you the first time you take it 2) it only effects the system immediately after taking it and he had to take the test right after taking it
  18. I think Rollins got that little of a deal because he wanted to stay in Philly and the other major SS shoppers (Cardinals, Brewers, Marlins) already made their holiday purchases. If we hadn't made the moves in our IF yet, all we would have done would drive up his price. Philly would probably keep him in the end and we'd be looking at Yuni/McGehee for 12. That is a ticket I cannot get behind.
  19. This. Look at the list of people and things that CAA represents. I'm sure the agency could have run the drugs past MLB without anyone knowing who they were asking for. It is Braun's fault if he didn't tell his agency, and it's his agency's fault if they didn't think to run it past MLB. I think he'll get a suspension whether it was PED or not.
  20. ARam got $36M. KRod will get $10-$15. So if Prince signs for less than $51M somewhere else, I will be with you in being mad we didn't get him. I'm hoping it is to the AL. It will sting that much worse to have to face him for the next couple of years. With everything that has happened in sports since 10/9/11 (the day my dad turned 55), I fully expect Prince to sign with the Cubs for a contract at least 7 years less than $150M that doesn't have a full no trade clause.
  21. He pops his shoulder out in 09 and then has a down 10. McGehee had a few fluke seasons where he did better than he did in the minors. I'm sure ARam will be better in the long run.
  22. paul253 wrote:The Cards made an offer that was way below market value. Why wouldn't that be an insult? $26 million a year is not below market value. That's more than he ended up signing for. Can "years" be counted towards market value? The market value is how much a player is worth on the open market. Do years factor in on worth? Either way, she obviously thought 5 years wasn't long enough which is fine. If she had just clarified that the years offered was insulting I would have been ok with it. But to say the entire offer was insulting was selfish and shows how out of touch with reality she is. Yes, it was below market value. In 5 years he would need to get a new 5 year deal. I doubt he would have made $20M+ on that deal. He would not have made as much money, which was his goal and right.
  23. Would he come back for game 51, or would he need a week or so in the minors to get back up to speed?
  24. We're Milwaukee. We need to overpay to get people here. We're not going to get people here to enjoy the weather, nightlife, or winning tradition. This is why the emptiness of the minors scares people around here.
  25. There is so much lawyereze in those contracts you need an agent (at least a good one) to be able to go over the contract and make sure there aren't any crazy clauses or loopholes in them.
