  1. The NHL is going with a radical re-alignment plan. Instead of 2 conferences of 3 divisions each with 5 teams they are going to go with 4 conferences, no divisions, and 7-8 teams per conference. There will no longer be wildcard teams. Top 4 finishes in each conference go on to the playoffs. The schedule will also feature a home/away against every team in the league with the remaining games being conference games. What does everyone think?
  2. Ken Rosentahl tweet: Free-agent IF Bill Hall has lost 15 pounds to regain foot speed. Multi-position guy. Lots of demand for utility types.
  3. According to BNightengale (retweeted by Hardricourt), the Marlins still want to go after Baseball Jesus. I see another 1997 coming where the Marlins are a good team that then has to trade everything away because they can't afford it all.
  4. JaDerHeyski worked until 5, but we thought we'd go and beat the general public. We got to the lot around 5:40. We had to wait in line for 15-20 min before we could even get into the clubhouse. The place was picked clean, just junk left to buy. What made us mad was that 10 min after getting into the clubhouse, the place was empty and there was no line anymore. So you either need to get there way early (like an hour before STH openning) or you should just wait until 30 after the general public openning.
  5. Johnson stole the thunder from Sheets 18k game. The next game the Braves played was a Big Unit no-no. How many times does a guy strike out 18 in a game and not even get pitcher of the week honors? Sheets was just unlucky his entire career. It didn't help that he couldn't do anything with the bat and had Bad Chad Moeller as a catcher.
  6. I logged in to BF.net quick from a different work computer. Outside of the IT dept (we all run Firefox or Chrome) all of the computers run IE 7. These forums look horrible.
  7. We'd also be looking at Greinke, Yo, Marcum, Narveson, and a rookie. Now add another rookie to that rotation when a pitcher misses time due to basketball/dizziness/whatever. We'd turn back to the 09-10 Brewers of scoring runs but not nearly enough. Which do you do first? Trade Wolf or sign ARAM/Rollins? What if you easily sign ARAM but find you can't sign Rollins (he wants to stay on the east coast or whatever)? Who plays SS? What if you sign both and nobody will give you anything higher than a rookie ball 1B for Wolf? What do you do if you trade Wolf first and find you can't sign either ARAM or a compentant SS? There is a lot of risk going in this direction. I'm not saying it isn't possible or not a good idea, but I would be very nervous between the events. Like I was last year between the trading for Marcum (signifying we were keeping Fielder and going for it) and signing Greinke. Luckily it wasn't a long wait, but things could have gone badly in '11 if the Greinke trade hadn't fallen to us.
  8. Major changes: Clubs with the 10th lowest revenues and in the 10th smallest markets will be placed into a lottery with a chance at six additional picks after the first round. I'm not sure how this will prevent a team from intentionally slashing payroll certain years to get bonus picks Teams will be assigned Signing Bonus Pools of $2.9 million for international signings as well, subject to taxes if they are exceeded. I doubt the super rich will care much The agreement also will eliminate Class A and Class B free agents ...only players who were with a club all season will be subject to compensation...[and the team] offers a one-year contract with a salary equal to the average salary of the 125 highest-paid players from the previous season. The offer must be made by the end of a five-day "quiet" period after the World Series - so renting players cost more now since you don't get compensation picks. Also means poor teams need to trade players before 6th season starts CBA also will allow for an expansion of instant replay beyond home-run calls to foul-fair calls down the lines as well as trapped balls in the outfield, contingent on agreement with the umpires. - so no rules yet, just that MLB can institute the new rule about traps and fair/foul. I'd like to see how it's implemented before judging on it. [super 2 status will be]expanded from the top 17% to the top 22%. get rid of the late May call ups Participation in the All-Star Game will be required All players will be subject to a policy regarding the use of social media. (Might be called the "Tony Plush Rule.").
  9. In 4 or 5 years we might be needing a DH anyway. It really depends on who replaces Selig.
  10. They are waiting out the Fielder situation because if they don't get Fielder, they would offer the money to Reyes/Rollins. Why sign Barmes for 2 years if you think you'll sign a better SS for 5? I just hope they don't strike out and get nobody.
  11. Sveum has managed 12 regular season games and 4 playoff games. That's a lot of experience for a rookie manager. I just don't see Sveum's small ball strategy being in line with Theo.
  12. monty57 wrote:Gindl's just a possibility. Melvin's history has been to find a veteran for around $700-800k for the 5th OF role. ...If I had to bet, I'd say Melvin will find a cheap vet... In Nov of 2010, how many people pegged Kotsay being on the team the entire year in 2011? How many people predicted Kapler before we got him? The Stache will go out and get somebody nobody predicted and few knew was still in the bigs. We will argue about him all year. That's what keeps BF.net alive.
  13. We could just make it easy. No interleague. No divisions. The best record in the AL faces the best record in the NL for the Championship. These newfangled playoffs and interleague are ruining the sport. Hell, let's bring back the racist rules and collusion while we're at it. [/blue]
  14. How many of those 800 are actual American's? It's 800 out of billions.
  15. How can you forget Jeffrey Hammonds?
  16. I've never used an illegal drug (but I have done steroids, sleeping pills, and oxycodone all in the same day). I've never been so drunk I puked or passed out. I've never been on a "non-kiddie" roller coaster.
  17. I have it pre-ordered for the 360. GameStop texted me last night that I can come to their store at 10:30 tonight to receive it at 12:01. I have a job and can wait until Friday afternoon to pick it up. I hope that a demo gets released for the PC. I'd like to see if it runs and then buy it from Steam once it goes on sale. Then I can sell the XBOX version.
  18. I used the past tense of "had" to refer to the late 80's early 90's when the Cowboys were buying the best players. Then revenue sharing and a salary cap (two things that would not be tolerated in the general American economy) "evened the playing field" and allowed the Packers to survive. Winning breeds fans, so now the Packers can generate plenty of their own income. I don't want to debate the revenue sharing/salary cap in sports. I was just pointing out that sports economies are granted exemptions to work as closed markets. So the fact that most American workers are able to go out and get as much money as possible doesn't relate to college athletes. Even if football players make it to the pros, there are restrictions on how much they can earn (salary cap).
  19. The sports universe has a different set of rules than the rest of the society. The Brewers are not allowed to broadcast their games in NY and LA to try and gain more fans in those cities. The Rays can't decide that TB doesn't support a winner and decide to build their new stadium a few blocks from Wriggly Field. The Trailblazers can't decide that they want King James and offer him $40M a year. The Cowboys had to share their profits with lesser teams like the Packers. College athletes get paid only in free tuition and/or board.
  20. I agree with MNBrew. As much as we want him back, we burned Sheets and JJ's bridges. They are not coming back until we replace the front office.
  21. Yes, but I wouldn't consider Yuni the centerpiece of the deal.
  22. I've had plenty of Dippin Dots in my day. It was a great way to get a souvenir helmet bowl. Ever since they started selling the ice cream of the future in a regular paper cup, I stopped buying them.
  23. Gobias, do you work in the Milwaukee area?
  24. If you're selling a car by yourself, how willing are you to hand over the car keys to let them "get it checked out by a mechanic"? Selling a used car is as risky as buying a used car. I haven't done it, but try setting up to pay for them to take it to a mechanic you choose. Pay the mechanic ahead of time and leave it up to them to physically get it there. Then they don't have to worry about you stealing it.
