  1. Apparently Ken Mandel has an affinity for the phrase "flush with relievers."
  2. I think we were overvaluing Penny a little bit. The guy's only got a career ERA+ of 104 and 1.32 WHIP, and had 2 good seasons (2004-I think he got injured that year?, and 2001). Other than that, he has been very average. Unless you believe that this one good year every three years thing is a trend, I wouldn't bother with him.
  3. I actually saw it yesterday on www.fazed.org, the site where Brian found the acid simulator. Although it would be sweet if VH1's producers read bf.net, I think the fazed.org thing would make more sense.
  4. Peavey, I agree completely. And, speak of the devil, this was in today's Onion: LINK
  5. I'll give that a huge second. Those commercials downright piss me off. And the song sucks too. I wish I had an ounce of guitar ability so I could write a song full of cliches about America and become rich.
  6. All of a sudden, everybody's signatures are sarcastic! All kidding aside, awesome job casey.
  7. Anyone else realize that the curveball that ended the game was apparently a mistake? It looked like Molina was clearly calling for him to bounce one (thumping the ground over and over again with his glove), but Wainwright either missed or just plain ignored his catcher. It worked for him, I guess.
  8. Charter Communications. They decided to take ESPN Deportes out of our "sports tier" package and put it in the "Latino tier" (which we would have to pay $5 extra/month for, and I don't speak Spanish or watch VHUno or any other Spanish channels). So not only did they take away a service and continue to charge us the same rate agreed to months ago (when we were getting 1 more channel than we currently are getting), they also didn't notify us at all. What's more, all this happened smack dab in the middle of the only reason I really want ESPN Deportes: UEFA Champions League matches. So I'm very angry at them right now, and I'll be angry at Americans/ESPN too for watching/showing pool/poker/Strongman/spelling bees, but very little soccer.
  9. Dibs on that deal. Turnbow would be fine.
  10. Not only do I hate how stupid Yankees fans are for not appreciating A-Rod, I hate how the media has run with it. Now just about everyone I know who watches SportsCenter or reads Sports Illustrated has it ingrained in their mind that A-Rod is horrible, he chokes under pressure, yadda yadda yadda. Now, when I try to point out the fact that all they do is show you stats from A-Rod's last 11 postseason games and ignore the previous 22 (in which he was on fire), all people do is repeat "he can't handle the pressure." Man, is it really that easy to be brainwashed by the media? All that being said, go Tigers, but go A-Rod at the same time. Or maybe A-Rod should suck it up so they trade him to the Brewers. But even if that happened, I wouldn't be surprised if half the people I know complain about how the Brewers are still only going after unclutchy players who won't do anything come crunch time. /rant
  11. I don't think it's each day, but it does reset for some reason. Stupid Yuku.
  12. If you go to your control center and click the link "Edit Profile", you'll see a box that says "Use Yuku Profile." Uncheck that box, save changes, and you'll have your old profile back.
  13. Today's lineups, per Yahoo! Brewers Cardinals B. Clark, cf D. Eckstein, ss T. Graffanino, 2b S. Spiezio, lf P. Fielder, 1b A. Pujols, 1b K. Mench, lf S. Rolen, 3b B. Hall, ss J. Encarnacion, rf G. Jenkins, rf R. Belliard, 2b D. Bell, 3b S. Taguchi, cf M. Rivera, c Y. Molina, c C. Capuano, p J. Suppan, p Sorry, brettac, but Bell's getting the start. Side note, maybe Sell Bell would go along with your tagline? EDIT: Oops, a little late.
  14. Any word on softball in Madison?
  15. I just got back from work, why is this game still going on? Rain delay?
  16. Endaround, I think Rivera is the only player you mentioned that fits the career minor leaguer bill.
  17. What? Haven't you heard? This one counts!
  18. Count me in for a Madison league too if it's somewhat accessible from campus and on a good night for me (not sure what those are yet).
  19. I agree....amazing to finally see a W at Miller Park. Thanks to all those whose good records offset mine. Also, good to see a "no-doubter." It's nice to see the Brewers not implode at the end of a game for once.
  20. Sorry everybody, but I'm going to the game tomorrow. Add my lifetime 0-fer at Miller Park to wisconsinfan's track record this year, and this one's bound to not be a good game. I apologize in advance.
  21. Same with balls in play, I believe.
  22. Just curious if anyone has any links to an article or two comparing the actual effect of streakiness. For instance, a comparison of a guy who hits with an OPS of 1.000 every other month and .600 every other month compared to a guy who hovers within .050 points of .800 every month. Just looking for some legitimate evidence to prove to others that streakiness doesn't really affect much of anything.
  23. Right now I'm seeing 75 hits, 23 walks, 14 HBP, and 300 total plate appearances, but a .376 OBP. My only theory is that SF must not count as plate appearances for OBP (at least for the ones on MLB.com) because that would work again. If that is the case, it makes me wonder, why does MLB list Total Plate Appearances if that's not the number they use to determine OBP? Edit: Apparently SF are included as plate appearances, but it looks like SH (normal sacrifices?) are not included because those without any SH don't have discrepancies in their OBP, but for those with some SH, their OBP comes out to (H+BB+HBP)/(TPA-SH). The only exception is Brady Clark. So moral of the story: I still don't really know what's going on. Either there are several errors, there's something else I've been missing, or the above explanation is correct and Brady Clark's OBP is simply miscalculated.
  24. Unless it's the first 11 AB's of the season....
  25. And I gotta say I love Jeremi Gonzalez's mugshot. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e348/skjellyfetti/114928.jpg
