  1. I've never umped, but in my experience from other stuff, it could just create a lot of confusion--especially when there's a loud crowd--if an umpire doesn't get a guy's attention before tossing him. And I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, I haven't seen this incident since it happened, so I probably forgot the specifics.
  2. A guy has to see himself being ejected. If an official is so timid that the guy doesn't even realize he's ejected, that's just plain unprofessional and asking for trouble throughout the rest of the game once the ejection finally gets cleared up. And as for the ump yelling at him, I guess I didn't see it. What I saw was him say "What did you just say?" and then boot Prince. I'm with you, I think it's really stupid that baseball umpires feel the need to be involved in arguments/shouting matches with players and coaches, particularly after the guy's already been thrown out. I just didn't see that in this incident (or just don't remember it because it was a while ago).
  3. From what I saw, it looked like he heard Prince say something right before he walked away (I'm going to go ahead and assume that something wasn't the most pleasant thing ever), followed him and ejected him because of what he said. As a referee for a different sport, I don't usually agree with a lot of what umpires tend to do, but I completely agree with him for this one. He had no choice but to follow Prince to eject him, otherwise he's standing by the plate and trying to eject a player who has his back turned on him and is 6 yards away. That would be an absolute disaster.
  4. I don't know about hate, but I get what you're saying. I could definitely see that getting pretty annoying. I don't think anyone on here could understand that mindset, as we've all stuck with the Brewers for many many years.
  5. I'm a 49er fan, and I'm not a fair weather fan. Every fan base has fair weather and not-so fair weather fans. No need to make generalizations about one specific group of people.
  6. I know this isn't exactly what you wanted Russ, but the Brewers' 3 worst OPSs relative to the rest of the league's OPS for the same split occurs with runners on 2nd and 3rd (79--100 is average), runner on 3rd (92), and runners on 1st and 3rd (93). Feel free to take these with a grain of salt because they are all pretty small samples and ignore the number of outs, but I feel that there is at least a basis for feeling that the Brewers are struggling in that area. Now, whether or not one believes that the Brewers can somehow fix this problem, that's a whole different story. Stats according to baseball-reference.com
  7. Congratulations to the greatest player of this era. And for what it's worth, IMO, the media's constant anti-Bonds campaign (because he doesn't interact well with them) has led to them celebrating Hammerin' Hank even more. Good for Hank I guess, but I don't get what ever happened to impartial media.
  8. I went without the internet from last January to May. It was actually kind of cool, because I realized that I suddenly had tons of extra time to do stuff. It seemed like it was going to be difficult finding stuff to do with all the new free time at first, but within a few weeks or so, I got used to it. I'd recommend giving it a try, because there's probably a lot of better things that can be done instead of chilling on the internet.
  9. Congratulations to one of the best hitters to ever play the game. One more to go and the record's all his.
  10. I had a friend come up with the name Rashaan Salami a few years ago. I was a big fan of that one.
  11. One time I saw the Dead and the Allman Brothers on consecutive Saturdays. That was a pretty sweet week, even though it was only a few years ago, so both bands were missing some key pieces. Nonetheless, it was a heck of a week.
  12. I have to very strongly disagree with this statement. JJ is a pretty big pull hitter, and one of the reasons he struggled so much in the beginning of his rookie year was that he kept trying to go the other way and would only poke the ball to the right side pretty harmlessly. However, when he's being aggressive and willing to pull the ball, he can be pretty darn good (see the beginning of this year).

  14. He can't be the Hebrew Hammer....that was Matt Bernstein. And he is much more of a hammer than Braun. Maybe Braun could name his bat the Hammer, and he could be the Hebrew & the Hammer....
  15. I guess I don't understand the big deal about where the record gets broken. If I'm manager, I'm playing my best player no matter what/where (as long as he's ok to play). Honestly, is it really worth sacrificing potential wins to create a slight buzz at a couple home games?
  16. It's not Gwynn's lack of home runs that scares people. It's his lack of anything other than singles that scares people. Even Juan Pierre could hit a double every now and then. I take issue with those AAA stats just posted (regardless of sample size).
  17. Please count me in. Thanks for offering the tickets, Pedro.
  18. Thanks Russ for correcting me. I knew I couldn't be right with everything in that post, because I really don't know my stats stuff very well. But thanks for helping prove that we're really right around what should be expected.
  19. I did some research as well, and I found that the likelihood of any team this year scoring 1 run in any given inning is about 51.93% (Edit: That's wrong. The brewers should expect to score .5193 runs per inning, not have a 51.93% chance of scoring 1 run. See rluzinski's post below for explanation). (Here's how I found that in case I didn't do it right: I summed each team's total number of games played, then multiplied by 9. I also calculated total extra innings games played, and multiplied that number by 1.5--my guesstimate of the average extra innings played. The total of those two was 22,968 innings. I then found the total amount of runs scored, which was 11,749. I then divided runs scored by innings played to get .5193 runs scored/inning.) Anyways, that's about where my knowledge of probability and statistics declines. I know it has something to do with combinations and/or permutations, but I can't really remember. If anyone wants to carry this on and figure out the actual probability of scoring runs in a specific late inning situation, please do so. But I think that regardless of what those results are, the Brewers' current record when trailing is just a small sample size deal anyways. I just don't think that the odds of winning when behind are going to be very good nonetheless.
  20. I'm with Shampoo4U. I really dig Roma pizzas. Something about their sauce tastes different than other pizzas, but it's a good different, not a bad different.
  21. I've never been to San Francisco, but I've wanted to catch a concert at the Fillmore for some time now. If that's the kind of thing you're into, I would suggest checking that out.
  22. I've gotten emails from Ms. Wrigley-Field too! I definitely disregarded them though. A name like that isn't coincidence, it's a mark of despicable character for sure.
  23. This whole situation does seem really crazy. One can only hope that Benoit and his family are at peace right now.
  24. Rival only because of proximity, not competition (in most cases).
