  1. I still haven't seen the movie yet, but the show is pretty hilarious also. I would definitely recommend watching the series.
  2. Mike Carp OPSing 1.458 and trying to continue the Mike (Fish) tradition of excellence begun last year by a certain Angels outfielder.
  3. You can get percentages for free from kenpom.com/blog also.
  4. Although the grading system seems a little bit wacky, I don't find it strange that two people with different scores could end up with the same GPA. This would be true in a more conventional system as well. For example, if two students ended with final grades of 86 and 84, both would receive a B even though they had different scores. They would likewise end up with the same GPA even though one student had a slightly better grade.

  6. That storm in the Fox Cities was pretty hilarious. I was in Neenah to visit family last weekend, and they probably got 7-8 inches of snow despite a forecast of 1-2. I think it snowed a whole lot longer than expected, too.
  7. As recently as 2006, the Badgers were in the dead middle of the pack for tempo, so Bo obviously doesn't *have* to run a super slow offense. I'm guessing he chooses how fast or slow to play based on his personnel. I can't find them right now, but I recall some quotes from Bo when recruiting Dekker and Koenig about wanting to run more. I'm guessing in the next few years the Badgers will play faster and perhaps get to an average tempo again. They are already playing faster than a few solid programs this year (Michigan, Pitt, Notre Dame, UVA).
  8. Ok. Then go by one of the myriad other stats HiandTight just mentioned. I can play this game too: I really hope they don't use a triple crown consisting of two archaic stats that give me very little information about a hitter to decide the MVP...
  9. Everything I have seen so far (fangraphs and BA) points to Segura not being able to stick at SS long term. However, many here have been saying we got a SS of the future. Anyone have a source that thinks Segura can play solid defense at short?
  10. Arlo Guthrie in Madison 2004.
  11. For what it's worth, after watching that video, I'm not so convinced "(expletive) kid" is what the umpire was yelling. It looks like he is saying more words than just that, and from trying to read his lips, I can't find a way that "(expletive) kid" makes sense with whatever else he is saying. I guess what I'm saying is that these attitudes toward the ump are completely based on conjecture--related to what we believe he was thinking when calling the strikes and related to what we believe he is saying (there's no way to tell for certain).
  12. I'm 99% sure what you are referencing occurs after he gets hit by the helmet. The ump doesn't really have time to say anything because he tosses him, is looking away for an instant, then gets hit, looks startled, and says *that*, after being hit by the helmet. This makes a huge difference, IMO, and it casts serious doubt on the storyline you are suggesting "definitely" happened. I don't understand how people can claim that it's not fair to judge Lawrie's intent based on the results while it is fair game to judge the umpire's intent with less evidence to support that case.
  13. I agree NFL and NBA playoffs are different, but I'd argue that it's more based on the fact that the NFL playoffs are one game events versus seven game series(es?). That alone introduces all kinds of random luck effects into it. Make the NBA playoffs a single elimination tournament and you'd end up seeing some deep runs by 8 seeds as well.
  14. The Bucks have owned the Heat this year. Just saying...
  15. He has admitted that UW is overrated by his system. He did a blog post on it back when UW was on the losing streak.
  16. I don't know if I've ever seen someone violate this specific rule, which would lead to it not being enforced. IIRC, you can enter the perimeter arc after the ball hits rim, but those at the lane can enter the lane when the ball is released. If this is in fact the rule, I have absolutely no problem with its enforcement. I would have a problem if it was ignored. Also, I strongly disagree with the sentiment that lane violations could be called every time. That statement just seems hyperbolic and lacking supporting evidence.
  17. I hear what you're saying, trwi, but I get just as annoyed when they go crazy the other way. It seems like so many experts just pick a random upset or several to use for their picks. They offer a generic explanation for why Team X can beat Team Y (veteran leadership, some good player that will be a "tough matchup", etc.); doing a pretty good job of sounding like they know what they are talking about. Then, when their crazy upsets don't happen, no one hears about it again. But if somehow they get one right (by sheer dumb luck), then they become heralded as a college hoops expert.
  18. Ken Pomeroy recently took a look at 3 point defense on his blog (kenpom.com/blog). The conclusion was that 3pt% is not something defense really controls. What a good 3pt defensive team will do is limit 3 pt attempts, as a previous poster alluded to. While it is nice that UW led the nation in 3pt % defense, that doesn't mean a whole lot. Likewise, pointing to UW's past tourney experiences means absolutely nothing--a) those are different players than this year and b) it likely wasn't something those teams could have controlled anyway.
  19. To follow up: Yesterday, I was only experiencing the redirects when viewing from my phone. I tried from a computer and was able to load the pages without issues. Today, I have not experienced any redirects yet, and I am using my phone again. So far so good...
  20. Is there any chance that MLB is combatting the leak by being incredibly tight-lipped and leaking nothing further? Theoretically, isn't it possible that MLB already found Braun "not guilty" and is refusing to acknowledge anything because this should have all been confidential? I know its unlikely that Braun would be exonerated and not proclaim his innocence, but maybe MLB gave him a gag order and said to just pretend nothing happened. Super far-fetched, I know.
  21. I'm not sure if this is a forum problem or a problem on my end. When I access forum.brewerfan.net it loads, but then redirects to several other URLs, eventually landing at google. I am able to access the site by stopping my browser immediately when a new URL appears to be loading. This happens for every forum link I click as well. FYI in case it is a forum issue.
  22. Pontiac Vibes are great, but I would avoid one for your specific needs. The Vibe doesn't do such a great job of handling more than 2 adults (at least tall ones). There is not a ton of legroom in the backseat.
  23. The views:posts ratio seems roughly on par with other threads like Cespedes to Oakland and Tony Puck. I think you might just be underestimating how many people lurk/read but don't post that often. Edit: I wonder if old ezboard posts got lost in the transition. I was over 1000 posts, now down to 362.
  24. Another place my girlfriend and I loved was Camelia Grill. Second this also. I loved that place.
