  1. Go figure, the teams that play in the league where the pitchers hit have a way better ERA. But, as I said, it is almost all park factor. Offensively they are very similar, the difference is defensively Braun is average, Willingham is horrible. You are overvaluing RBI and Runs, as those are a factor of the guys playing around the hitter as much as the hitter themselves and WAR does it's best to be context neutral.
  2. We kept Izturis and instead of keeping Bianchi and instead of giving Maldanado regular ABs, he will now rot on the bench.
  3. They play in different leagues. Braun plays in a better hitters parks. Willingham faces better pitching and better defenses. Those three things are all factors. Edit: This probably all comes down to park factor, MP is one of the better hitters parks in the league, while Willingham plays in one that is in the middle of the pack.
  4. Lucroy's value is as a great defensive catcher, and an above average bat for a catcher. He would be a poor firstbaseman and a below average 1B bat. He has no value at 1B. He's also said himself: "I'd be terrible anywhere in the IF. I'm a catcher." Anyway, Kottaras has a .370 OBP since the end of April. That's better than almost anyone on the team. I'd rather have him hitting 2nd vs RHP than the amazing Carlos .280 OBP Gomez.
  5. He played Kevin Mench over Corey Hart And DH'd Tony Gwynn.
  6. Last season he hit Carlos Gomez 2nd the overwhelming majority of his starts. Last season he thought Kameron Loe could get lefties out, despite 4 years of evidence he couldn't. Last season he thought Felipe Lopez was a better option than Taylor Green. Last season he thought Casey McGehee was a better option than Taylor Green or anyone else. Last season he thought that every playoff game should be managed just like a regular season game. I guess I cannot understand why you thought he was a good manager last year. Last year, everything went right, and the talent overwhelmed his bad decisions. Yost was just as bad. I miss Macha.... but wait, the players hated him. Go look at the two teams he had, and the fact that they won 76 and 78 games. The guy did something right.
  7. He has a very serviceable .712 OPS on the road this year, and a .725 OPS vs RHP this year. If he's used as the big part of a platoon, he has a lot of value. Small samples, both, but he seems to have lost his ability to hit LHP.
  8. This years team are masters of the come from ahead loss.
  9. I'm so excited to go.... I wish I had more than 6 days there. I could easily spend a month and not see all I wanted to see.
  10. Brewers: 3 runs or less: 43 times Brewers 4 runs or more: 49 times Opponents: 3 or less, 36 times 4 or more, 56 times. Breakdown by runs: Brewers\Opponents 0 Runs= 7 4 1 Runs = 10 8 2 Runs = 8 12 3 Runs = 18 12 4 Runs = 8 17 5 Runs = 8 11 6 Runs = 10 7 7 Runs = 5 6 8 Runs = 10 6 9 Runs+ = 8 9 Random variance. Edit: I have no idea where the other 2 games are or why my spreadsheet is not counting them. Edit 2: Last line should've been 9+, because I was lazy.
  11. Ohhh Cappy.... http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1250962/CapuanoFlop.gif.opt.gif
  12. I was playing Second Life and interacting with imaginary human beings in imaginary life.
  13. La Croix sparkling mineral water?
  14. I drove this, this morning on my way home from Bay View. 794 does go down to 1 lane after the 94/43 split. Then the 2nd (middle) lane is the on ramp from Milwaukee (?) St. I am really not sure how they could remedy the situation, beyond having that on ramp merge well before where they are forced to.
  15. Trading him away is completely different than loaning them out. If a guy gets hurt while playing for the other team, you wouldn't have the option of not resigning him. You'd be on the hook for his whole salary.
  16. They actually edited their calculations, and removed shifting data from them because when the Jays shift vs LHB, instead of doing what most teams do (3B playing where the SS does), Lawrie goes and plays where the 2B normally would, so he was getting huge credit for making those plays which no other 3B ever had.
  17. Anything, really. A solid brewpub or two, hikes that could be off the beaten path, local eats, suggestions on where to sit at Coors field.... I'm only there for 6 days, so I'll be burning the candle on both ends and probably lighting it in the middle... but it'll be fun.
  18. The lane on the far right (the first one to end) is actually the on ramp from... 11th (?) street, so 794 is actually 2 lanes coming through that corridor. Really, though, it could easily be cut down to 1 lane after the 43/94 split coming from the lakefront.
  19. Somewhere around 87 or 88.... at Alpine Valley, my parents took me to see the Grateful Dead.
  20. Y'know what's bugging me? That stupid cigar bar commercial they play all the time on 1250 where the lady says "We were able to raise such and such cigars to spite his poor showing" "To Spite" has a completely different meaning from "in spite of" or "despite" They can't even use the English language correctly in their commercials.
  21. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/pitching-around-batters Common sense, especially when it comes to baseball cliches is quite often wrong.
  22. With the series coming up in less than a month, just giving this a bump, and seeing if anyone has further suggestions. I'll be in Boulder for the week, and hopefully attending all 3 games in Denver.... also hope to climb at least one 14er.
  23. Because what has he done to show he would go with a younger, inexperienced player in the last two seasons in any way shape or form unless he was forced to by injury? Taylor Green couldn't see the field while Felipe Lopez pooped himself playing 2B for 2 weeks. He still couldn't see the field once we got Hairston, even though Hairston was clearly a better option than Gomez in CF or McGehee at 3B.
