  1. Because, for the most part, the public (which is what these websites are) doesn't have access to that data. Camera's don't show where position players are positioned before the pitch (or as the pitch is thrown).
  2. So, my question is, if it is Thornburg, what is the 40 man move? Lucroy to the 60 day DL (that means he couldn't come off until July 28th)? Perez? Dillard?
  3. Where exactly were you getting the 25 million to pay CC on last years team? You're stuck with No Weeks. No Hart. No Hawkins. No Saito and no Wolf. That's 25 million. Don't believe me? https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0Ah4PW47PiAi-dHRZc3VGOFNGTDZMMUtkYmNVRktyMlE&output=html Somehow you seem to think the Brewers can build a competitive team paying 60% of their salaries to 2 players. Or do you just assume that Mark A will spend his own money and balloon the payroll to 130 million?
  4. Lord of The Rings.
  5. Owed 30 million over the next 2 years (including his buyout). That's what's wrong with him. Odds of him outplaying that contract are slim to none.
  6. Seriously gameday? I can't mute your crappy audio ads anymore? Sigh.
  7. So that makes it better? Every other team could've had him, so it's not Doug's fault! Yes. That means every team had him evaluated in the same way. They all thought he couldn't hit MLB pitching well enough to stick. He was striking out in nearly 25% of his AAA AB's, even though he was crushing the ball that number jumps a lot when going to MLB, the thought was he simply wouldn't make enough contact against better stuff to be an effective hitter. To compare: Weeks, who everyone thinks K's too much, K'd less than 20% of the time in his short stint in the minors.
  8. In '89 he was 36, I don't think the injury was as much the problem as being old was. Career wRC+: Weeks: 111 (that's 11% better than league average), Ganter: 87 (13% worse than league average). Implying they are even in the same stratosphere as hitters is simply not true. I might even take Don Money over both of 'em.
  9. You can't really do this analysis without looking at where they picked and who was picked after them. There were almost NO all-stars drafted after the Bucks picks in any season, aside from Bogut. The reason they've been a middling franchise is that they have only picked in the top 5 3 times in 25 years (Bogut, Allen, Big Dog). Top-5 is where the talent is. It's where all the talent has been drafted in the last 12 years.
  10. I watched both of them, and Weeks is such a superior player that it's not even funny. I know you think that strikeouts are the single worst thing a player can do (were you really terrible in little league or something?) but they are no different than any other out. Anyway. I'd put Molitor at 2B, Cirillo at 3B, and Prince at DH, with Coop at 1B. I know that '82 team was loved, but I think there's some debate to be had between Darryl Hamilton and Gorman in CF.
  11. Considering Verlander's thrown 20 more innings per season than Cain on average the last 3 years, and his last 3 years have been superior to Cain's.... Yes, I'd still take Verlander.
  12. Good thing RRR decided to DH the perfectly healthy Taylor Green last night.
  13. It does seem like there have been a ton of no-hitters and perfect games over the past 15-20 years or so. I'll admit that the curmudgeon in me doesn't approve... "In my day, Catfish Hunter had the last perfect game in '68, and we liked it that way". I wonder if after Catfish's perfecto people were saying the same thing. "There's been 3 perfect games in the last 5 years, when there were 6 in the previous 90, it's TOO EASY!" It's no real coincidence that when there's twice as many teams, hence twice as many games... these feats tend to happen more often.
  14. I was just looking at how average MLB Team salaries have escalated since 2000. Average of 55M in 2000. Now the average is 98M (92% increase) While the median salary (I took the average of 15th and 16th salaries) has gone from 56M in 2000 to 85M this season. (51% increase) Top 3 teams salary average has gone from to 88M to 182M a whopping 106% increase. So, the "Have's" are spending way more than they were in 2000 compared to other teams. I can do a bit more analysis once I have some time later.
  15. 1) You have to pay everyone who works for the Brewers, from Doug Melvin and RRR on down to the minor league guys in Helena and the guy selling cotton candy. Those costs also add up. 2) There is debt on the team/stadium that needs to be paid down - still well over 100 million. 3) The Brewers have the lowest TV deal in all of MLB, so most of their money is from ticket sales. They only had 19.2 million in operating income last season. That's before taxes and interest payments are taken into account. It's easy to see how they could've lost money.
  16. He's lost all of his power, and he's stopped walking. No thanks.
  17. I really feel like this off season is going to mimick the 2008 off-season and there will be a TON of horrible contracts put out there. I really hope DM avoids the mid level dregs and only goes after the high end guys.
  18. Hey, mine too! /derailthread
  19. They are darn close. Hart had a couple really bad years, but he's also put up 3 seasons better than Ethier ever has. http://www.fangraphs.com/graphsw.aspx?players=1945,6265
  20. There's actually a pretty good online project that has the original movies on blu-ray with extremely high quality. I won't do any linking, as they might not be kosher, but they are out there, if you have a blu-ray burner.
  21. When a company decides who a boxer fights, and their profits are doubled when he fights someone from the same promotional company, it's in their interests to make that happen. They just created a second fight like that in November with a rematch.
  22. If they draft Leonard I will not attend or watch another Bucks game until Kohl sells the team. He is horrible, disinterested, and doesn't even appear to like playing basketball. I've never seen a guy with his build and raw talent not care as much as he does on the basketball court. He consistently got lost on defense, refused to box out, and never helped his teammates out from the weakside. He doesn't attack the rim against undersized opponents, instead settling for crappy fadeaways and turn around jumpers which he can't make. You can blame Bruce Weber if you want, but the onus falls on the player to self-motivate and get better on their own, especially in the NBA.
