  1. I don't think there is any way they double him up. Ben Revere was flying down the line.
  2. MLB gives the TV rights to who pays the most money for the TV rights. If the networks don't want them, they can't sell them there.
  3. http://m.mlb.com/images/6/3/8/154473638/101415_tor_bats_batflip_lowres_gjvlzoc9.gif I still can't get over that inning. That inning was just... I mean.... damn.
  4. And Tulo just did the exact same spin that Tejada was about to try in New York.... gosh, it's almost like that's what you do when you take a feed from behind 2B.
  5. Bringing this forward from the WC game thread: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/zoneTrack.php?month=10&day=7&year=2015&game=gid_2015_10_07_chnmlb_pitmlb_1%2F&prevGame=gid_2014_05_11_nyamlb_milmlb_1%2F&prevDate=1007 Really wasn't that bad. Pittsburgh GOT the worst call of the night in their favor. Does that graph relate to TBS' graph on the tv screen. I seen more pitches where a strike that was outside was dotted inside TBS' graph and then a Ball on a pitch that looked right on the corner being dotted way outside. That's the graphic I'm complaining about. I don't know that this Brooksbaseball and graphic of pitches and location and strike/ball calls is using the same data TBS is putting on their TV Screen Fangraphs actually wrote about how horrible TBS's on-screen graph is and how small it is compared to the actual called strike zone. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/tbs-please-fix-your-strike-zone-graphic/
  6. I really want the Brewers to sign Bartolo Colon for next season. I say this in all truth, and in hopes of pure comedic value of every one of his starts.
  7. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997_Major_League_Baseball_expansion_draft Basics: Team protects 15 guys through the organization, draft picks from the previous 2 seasons were automatically protected (and not included in the 15), as well as young international signees. After each round, teams could protect 3 more guys, up to 21, going into the 3rd round. The rounds were 14 picks for each team, with the 3rd round being 7. So 70 players total were chosen.
  8. There is precedent, and it actually involved the Brewers, albeit nearly 20 years ago. http://www.nytimes.com/1996/06/04/sports/baseball-american-league-suspends-belle-for-five-games.html Do you honestly think that? He did a typical spin and plant to prepare for a throw to first...very obvious. If he was trying to avoid contact why would he stop? And no he shouldn't just stand there instead. He should have done what any other player does in that exact situation. Jump and let your feet get hit so you just glacefully fall to the ground. He was facing away from 1st base, you need to pivot and torque your body before you can jump. It was definitely an awkward feed, as it came from the 3B side of 2B. He started to pivot, and stepped towards CF (so he wouldn't be in the baseline, as any SS is taught) and before he could jump he was taken out by an airborne baserunner.
  9. He went airborne, cleared second base, and hit Tejada on the 3B side of 2nd. Tejada planted, started to pivot and moved his body towards CF in an attempt to avoid contact. Even if he doesn't pivot, and he just STANDS THERE, 3 feet on the SS side of 2nd, Utley barrels into him and takes him out.
  10. He dove completely ACROSS the bag. Never once touching it. He was AIRBORNE when he passed second base. There was no slide, his only intent was to hit Tejada as hard as he could to prevent the double play. http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view5/20151010/5257493/dirty-slide-o.gif
  11. What a ridiculous play. 1) Saying the SS caused the contact by his pirouette... I just can't buy that. He is 2 feet to the 3rd base side of second base, and is moving towards CF as he twists. 2) This slide was horribly, horribly dirty. He went in late, he went in high, he didn't come anywhere near 2B and he hit the SS on the 3B side of the bag. The fact that the idiotic umps called him safe, is just.... ridiculous. He should've been out for interference, he should've been out because he was called out on the field, and he should've been out because the runner behind him passed him when he ran off the field.
  12. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/zoneTrack.php?month=10&day=7&year=2015&game=gid_2015_10_07_chnmlb_pitmlb_1%2F&prevGame=gid_2014_05_11_nyamlb_milmlb_1%2F&prevDate=1007 Really wasn't that bad. Pittsburgh GOT the worst call of the night in their favor.
  13. I went and saw the 35mm screening of The Shining last night (the first time I'd ever seen the movie all the way through). What a cool experience. It also helped that none other than John Axford (who we were initially told was unable to make it) rolled out in overalls, a bad wig and on a big wheel.
  14. Having dealt with family members who are (recovering) alcoholics, I can say, when someone makes the decision to get clean and stop drinking, the time or place or anything else that may be going on in their life doesn't matter. No matter who tells them "Stop drinking," they won't until they hit that point of rock bottom and having their brain finally realize the damage, the pain, the hurt they're causing not only themselves, but their friends & family.
  15. The top 3 teams already sit from a day game on Sunday and don't play until Friday. So they have 4 full days off. (5 if you count the hours.) I know I said it before but when (not an if) they go to 32 teams, and re-align to 8x4, I would be in favor of a 6 team playoff with the top 2 seeds sitting. I would then play a 3 game series, with the better team getting games 2 & 3. The games would be played during the same time frame, I just wouldn't have all these "travel" days. Teams go weeks without a "travel" day. There is no reason that with having all 2:00 CST starts on the last Sunday of the year, that series can't start on Monday. The other two can start on Tuesday. So for the NL wild card week would go. Game 1 - Monday. Game 2 - Wednesday Game 3 - Thursday NLDS Game 1 - Saturday With this format, you are adding 1 day as the NLDS is scheduled to start on Friday this week. They'd have to wait until Tuesday, at least, in case there are 1-game playoffs in both leagues to determine the WC representatives or division winners.
  16. Things that are embellished don't become more and more true the closer you get to them. Section 42, row 37, seat 21: that's where you'll find the red seat at Fenway Park marking the location where Ted Williams jacked a ball an estimated 502 feet in June 1946 before it fell on the head of one Joe Boucher, a construction engineer, knocking a hole in his straw hat and bouncing up another 12 rows. "How far away must one sit to be safe in this park?" Boucher asked. He didn't even get to take the ball as a souvenir, saying "after it hit my head, I was no longer interested."
  17. I like the one game playoff as it means winning the division is a bigger deal.
  18. I think the East is going to be quite a bit better this season than last, so 50 wins might be difficult. Indiana, Miami, Boston, who were all awful last year, will all be quite a bit better (Bucks went 8-3 vs those 3 teams last year). Also, acclimating to a 40% new starting lineup will probably take some time. Beating the good teams will determine how many wins this team will get. Their defense is so good, that they will suffocate the bad teams.
  19. Exploring doesn't have to be live game situations. If the guy can't move his feet or field ground balls in practice, he won't magically do it in games.
  20. 18 months ago the team finished with the worst record in the NBA, for a team who's goal was to win 40 games and compete for the playoffs. The team skimped and pinched pennies on things like assistant coaches, training staff and locker room amenities. 18 Months. New owners. New coach. New arena in the works. Jabari Parker. Greg Monroe. Locking up Middleton.
  21. I figured this deserved it's own thread. One of the all-time greats, and one of the all time great quotations. http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/york-yankees-legend-yogi-berra-dies-90/story?id=25437934 One of 10 men to win the MVP 3 times. Jimmie Foxx, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, Alex Rodriguez, Stan Musial, Roy Campanella, Mike Schmidt, Barry Bonds and Albert Pujols
  22. Not to be confused with an Opa-Bomb which is what happens after my Greek uncle has Taco Bell.
  23. Sadly, that's how back injuries work. I've got many family members who have had back issues (knock on wood) and one day everything is fine, the next, they can't walk normally.
