  1. Winner! (at least so far...) I figured we would lose this game so I'm not all that upset about it.
  2. Remote work is here to stay, no doubt, the question is at what level. Many companies are sensing an opportunity to save $ and are starting to pair compensation with location--10-20% pay cut in exchange for working remotely from an area with a lower cost of living. Plus the opportunity to save on office space. Although in exchange, some are funding home office upgrades. My sister in law has been working a new job for 6 months now and has only ever met one of her coworkers in person. I don't think we know if such a situation is sustainable in the long term.
  3. The metrics seem to suggest that the Reds and Mets in particular are way better than their record. The Mets are a real mystery--top-5 offense, above-average pitching, elite #1 starter, elite closer. In a 162-game season they would certainly be a dangerous playoff team.
  4. Either that or lower the mound. I also think robot umps are going to really help hitters.
  5. It doesn't really seem to help. The pitches have so much movement that you will still swing and miss a ton..and when you do make contact the defense is more likely to make a play. The exit velocity vs. hit probability relationship is so strong that under most situations you have to hit the ball hard. And when you do hit the ball hard, it jacks up your OPS which is the only number anyone is really looking at. It's interesting to watch Vogelbach hit because he has a very compact swing and is pretty good at making contact. But even he ended up on the scrap heap after a relatively short period of struggling. Maybe in the long run we'll see more contact hitters work their way up through the minors, but I suspect MLB will make hitter-friendly rule changes before that happens.
  6. If only these scrubs would learn to hit 98 with 90 mph sliders. Lets not forget you have to swing at those 90 mph slides when they are within 6" of the strikezone because the human umpires will randomly call them strikes about a third of the time.
  7. Just a classic example of how awful the MLB product is right now. Classic contact situation--2nd and 3rd, 1 out--and there's only a handful of hitters in all of MLB who could be counted on to get the run in there.
  8. That looked almost identical to Yelich's liner in game 7 of the 2018 NLCS. Except in that case Taylor took the correct route and made the catch.
  9. There are 11 teams in MLB hitting worse than Cincinnati right now.
  10. Yeah, his physique has really hurt his homerun totals the last few seasons. His bat looks slow this year compared to previous seasons. Is there any evidence to support either (a) More muscle = faster bat speed; (2) Yelich's bat speed is slower this year?
  11. Love watching this Yelich-Castillo battle.
  12. Hope springs attorney.
  13. My main point was to say that running (or any other type of cardio exercise) by itself isn’t going to do anything for losing weight unless you do it a LOT. In my experience 40+ miles/week was where my weight would drop unless I purposely ate extra calories. But I was never able to keep up that kind of mileage without getting injured. Better to run slow which is easier and less injury risk. Or just walk.
  14. Interesting. Online calculators put one hour of walking at 325 calories and biking at 750 cal per hour. Running is about 125 cal per mile. I've lost 10 pounds in 12 weeks. I don't fast. A slow go, but working on it. Running will replace fat with muscle mass. However, ten years ago I increased my mileage and lost quite bit, but also resulting in Achilles issues that put me on the shelf for a year. I've run over 10,000 miles in the last 10 years, I weigh 10 lbs more than I did 10 years ago. But on the plus side, I've have a lot of good food and beer in the last decade.
  15. Is that the first time this year they got a runner home from first without any additional walks+hits?
  16. I'm honestly impressed we got 2 off of Wainwright. That's 2 more than I thought we would get.
  17. Specifically, the potential lost money was the bowl games, which could not be easily rescheduled.
  18. Even Yelich's outs are starting to look like old Yelich.
  19. Yep. Postseason baseball is great. More please. And the next step after expanding the playoffs should be to start getting creative about what can be done with the 162-game season. If it was up to me, the scheduled season would end in late August and the bottom-tier teams would start competing for draft position, the bubble teams would compete for the last playoff spots, and the top teams would compete for playoff byes.
  20. My favorite thing about the Braun-Molina incident is that the Cardinals tried to blame Braun for swinging late on a pitch that he MADE CONTACT on. What a bunch of morans.
  21. Just hoping that a thread about Omar will help get him going with the bat 2019: .278/.353/.416 2020: [redacted]
  22. Uhhh. Then games will be cancelled because of Covid? Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. So how do they determine a conference champion then?
