  1. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/08/meritocracy-killing-high-school-sports/597121/ How do you reconcile that with Title IX? Pretty much the only profitable sports are football and men's basketball, on a good year maybe men's hockey. How do you explain 100% of scholarships going to men and none to women? Obviously it has to be a 50/50 split. I'm just saying the whole college scholarship athletics business has gotten way over-inflated, many of the non-revenue sports can be club sports instead of scholarship.
  2. I believe it can. It hosts soccer games and well there was this in 2009. One thing to note is that the soccer pitch was not regulation size. Football can fit, however, because the field is narrower and can use more of the foul territory near the Brewers' dugout.
  3. Who says they are rich kids. And why is it that money should go to revenue producers. This is suppose to be college, not Wall Street......and I love Wall Street. The whole college cheating scandal from 2019 is what first turned me onto this, but when you think about it, there aren't exactly a ton of kids from low-income backgrounds mastering sports like tennis or swimming well enough to earn a D1 scholarship. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/08/meritocracy-killing-high-school-sports/597121/
  4. I'm fine with it, the scholarship sports model needs to go the way of the dinosaur. Better that the money goes to paying revenue-generating athletes than subsidizing predominately rich kids that could easily afford tuition.
  5. The COVID curve is going to end up being a sine wave, isn't it?
  6. Ouch, not a fun pitching matchup for a slumping team. Maybe we can get to their bullpen?
  7. Judging by the type of companies that choose to advertise on Brewers broadcasts, they are likely struggling to pull viewers in the age 18-34 demographic. And yes, the Brewers are severely limited by market size. In 2019 the Brewers were 4th in local TV rating but 16th in raw viewers. 59,000 per game...similar to Seattle, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay.
  8. Here we go losing to the Pirates again.
  9. If the stories I've heard about Bob Uecker are true then it's kind of amazing he hasn't been picked up saying something stupid on a hot mic. Not that Bob would ever say something as terrible as Thom's comment, but Uecker's rumored skill with the mute button just adds to his legend IMO.
  10. Give me a break. Ok. Lets hear your justification for why homophobic comments in the workplace are not a fireable offense.
  11. Yeah, the Bucks' offense is still a work in progress. But it sure is good timing for Bucks to get hot behind the arc while their opponent is ice cold.
  12. These things tend to sort themselves out...if it really was an isolated, innocent mistake, I'm sure any day now we'll see his coworkers at Fox rise to his defense. Or other well-respected voices who know Thom well. I'll be waiting...
  13. Orlando seems to have come back down to earth.
  14. I had a similar thought--perhaps someone in the truck intentionally went live a bit early with the intention of catching one of Thom's comments on a hot mic. If so, they had one chance to get it right and they nailed it.
  15. I feel for his poor coworkers who likely have to deal with a homophobe on a daily basis. Even if the mic wasn’t hot he should have been fired for saying that while on the job.
  16. I'm confused, that looked like a clutch hit with RISP, never seen one of those before.
  17. January would be the smart move. I'm sure the SEC/ACC will be joining them eventually, but they will probably try to play a week or two before that happens.
  18. They might actually lose this game!
  19. I don't want to act like I'm not concerned about this team going forward, because I am. But the nice thing about being a 1 seed is that they can ease into the playoffs a bit and get the jitters out now.
  20. They played like complete garbage and are down 10 at half. The Bucks are going to be winning by the start of the 4th quarter.
  21. If Orlando was any good they would be up 30 by now. A loss might be good for the Bucks but I still can't see the Magic winning this game.
  22. Agreed...completely. To me this was a sign of his frustration. Frustration that they're on a pretty bad run that pre-dates the bubble winning 4 of their last 13 and that Giannis himself is constantly getting hacked out there, but because he's so much bigger and more physical, he doesn't get the calls that perhaps he should. I remember Shag losing his mind and throwing a wild punch...and I don't think anyone thought or thinks Shaq is a bad guy or has some character flaws. Sports obviously get very intense and Giannis is the player he is because he has an ALMOST Jordan like tenacity that he plays with...so it's not a shock that he'd get emotional at times. Lets ask this...if Donic did the same thing...would people be talking about it? Of course. Though I'm far MORE convinced that it's not a sign of any flaw in Giannis than I would be with basically any other player in the league given how earnest and genuine he's been so far in his career. Maybe he does a complete 180 and we see him going into the stands taking out rows of people with a single swing...but I kinda doubt it and think the apolgetic version of Giannis after the game is a better indicator of what he's like moving forward. Agree 100%. I was kind of surprised that there might be other interpretations, which is kind of what prompted my intentionally provocative post.
  23. The Yelich extension might end up being more transformational than the trade. It's easy to forget how disgruntled much of the fanbase was back in Jan-Feb, and many of us were starting to draw up trade ideas for Yelich with the assumption that he was headed out the door.
