  1. Narvaez is the one that is just a pure mystery and must be related to the weird aspects of this season. García...meh...he's not that far off his career averages and was always a high K/low BB guy.
  2. I don't know if anyone else has done prenatal genetic screening, but my wife did the testing and she came back as a carrier for a rare kidney disease so I got tested as well. Found out today that I'm not a carrier so the baby is good to go It's pretty cool how many things they can test for these days.
  3. Any chance he's been working as a garbage man?
  4. If Domingo could field he would have some value. Domingo can't field.
  5. This feels like a great 'sell high' move to me. Where's the value in Phelps? He pitched 13 nice innings this year, great, he pitched 588 innings prior to that and was never especially impressive, and he's not getting any younger or cheaper. Let the Phillies be the ones to waste their time making trades to get a #8 seed.
  6. New series, here we go. Bucks in six!
  7. Well that was fun, now I'm going to pretend this game never happened.
  8. I'll laugh so hard if Nebraska and Iowa end up being the only states that fail to meet the criteria.
  9. League Average 2019 | 256/327/443 | 8.7 BB% | 22.4 K% League Average 2020 | 243/321/416 | 9.3 BB% | 23.2 K%
  10. I think this could honestly be said of almost every team in MLB this year. Strikeouts are happening at a practically catastrophic rate. There's a lot going on to result in a high strikeout rate, but I think it's pretty clear that the human umpires are a big part of the recent increase. Pitchers hammer away at the corners and hitters have to swing because a pitch 2" off the outside is called a strike about a third of the time.
  11. Plus we're not even close to 29th or 30th in OPS! Even an average MLB offense is painful to watch these days.
  12. I think we're witnessing the slow death of the pull hitter. Across MLB the formula for getting these hitters out has been perfected. Even the good ones can barely hit .225. I think an adjustment will come, but it will have to work its way up from the high school/college levels. In the meantime, offense in MLB has gotten so anemic that the 2002 Brewers would now have an above-average batting team in terms of BA and OBP if they played in 2020. That's absurd!
  13. I'm thankful to have a day game, finally. And some baseball games that won't take 4 hours. What a dream.
  14. It’s amazing that Colin Kaepernick took a knee exactly 4 years ago to the date. That was really the beginning of the current situation, no doubt. I think the same parameters that lead to Kaepernick getting ousted from the NFL still apply today—there are a lot of people in power who make a lot of money from professional sports who are going to try and make this situation go away as quickly as possible. Which is why it has a good chance of being successful, because the movement is so big now that those phone calls are going to be to politicians asking for changes.
  15. I’ll believe they are playing tomorrow when I see players on the field.
  16. Laura would be a nice nod to the monster storm of 2020, plus homage to your favorite BF moderator who was also born in February. I don't think it totally clashes with your surname, either. Laura is a good name. I'm not opposed!
  17. The quote I'm seeing going around is that "sports are like a reward for a functioning society" which I think is apropos for this moment. I think that a couple arrests in some of the higher-profile cases might be an appropriate endgame. Which would at least give the appearance that the criminal justice system is functioning.
  18. No it isn't, they broke their contract. It's a big deal.
  19. Yep. And this is certainly going to extend beyond the Bucks. The main question I have is if the Brewers will follow. I know other NBA teams will boycott.
  20. Super helpful comments, thanks! In Seattle the weekly cost of childcare is closer to $550/week so you can see where my desire to trade work hours for childcare comes from. I have the "fun" and flexible job in the household so I would be the one offering to do the tradeoff. It's clear that 100% productivity will not happen so there will have to be some sort of negotiation on reduced work hours/productivity.
  21. Yep...not a good situation although at least it is going to make landfall in a relatively unpopulated area. They will certainly retire the name Laura so you'll be off the list after this year!
  22. Woo! Congrats on the twins! We’re expecting our first (a girl) in February so I also appreciate all of the advice here. I’m wondering how you all handled childcare...my wife is fortunate to get 16 weeks of paid maternity leave, I work mostly from home but I haven’t figured out how much I should work during the time after that. I don’t want to pay for 5 days/week of childcare but it sounds like it is very difficult to get any work done if there is an infant at home. Grandparents live in different states so they are not an option.
