  1. The spirit of Hank the dog must have made the ball slippery
  2. The Cards clearly ran out of black devil magic. How did that come out of the glove?
  3. Because the Cubs made a run in August, they couldn't get away with dumping salary to get under the luxury tax threshold, but they will still most likely miss the playoff anyway. Just fantastic.
  4. It only takes 2 teams being seriously interested for him to get paid.
  5. These games have an impressive number of commercial breaks. I turned it off after the WMU touchdown, watched a full inning of an MLB game, came back and only 1:30 of game time had elapsed.
  6. That was a nice W to snag, just enough luck and skill to do the trick. Not sure what the Reds were thinking allowing a run to score with Williams coming in to pitch, but the gift is appreciated.
  7. The Cubs still have 1.0% odds of winning the NL Central...I was getter pretty nervous when they had that up to like 1.3% the other day.
  8. The S&P 500 is up 18% YTD. If you bought the dip at the start of August you would be up 7-8%.
  9. At the current pace of the Cubs gaining 1 game on the Brewers per 10 games played, the Cubs will have it down to 6 games by the end of the season.
  10. The Pirates announcer after the final out: "One of the worst losses in the history of the Pittsburgh Pirates today. Historic."
  11. Cubs now up 14-10. The Pirates are an embarrassment.
  12. Enjoy! It was so tempting to go today with the nice weather but I had a conflict come up. Hopefully the M's strike out less than 15 times today...
  13. I like the way things currently set up for us this year with the WC round against a weak Braves team followed by a NLDS matchup against LA or Philly, both of which have had down years relative to their recent standards. I don't want anything to do with the Padres or D'Backs in a short series.
  14. So why are worried about the current employment rates then? People just need to pick up skills and they will be fine.
  15. Austerity would just cause more unemployment.
  16. And that's why every team with a PCL affiliate has their pitching prospects skip AAA.
  17. Inexcusable. We can’t afford to be dropping critical games like this.
  18. It was all Yadi Molina, the whole time. Now that he’s retired they are just another team.
  19. At the end of the day, the biggest issue with the Mariners is that they are trying to compete with a payroll that is about the same as the Brewers. They have done a good job at building a strong minor league system particularly on the pitching side. But they throw around money more freely than the Brewers and the result is that they have been stuck with some bad contracts and they don't have the payroll to spend out of it. If you follow Mariners fan threads, the common theme that you will see is cheap ownership, as they have consistently ranked as the most profitable franchise over the last several years and have made the decision to not increase payroll during the current competitive window. It sucks.
  20. I need my daily rhyme... The Brewers will make a parody out of Flaherty. Myers will put out the Dodgers hitters' fires. The second seed is all we need.
  21. Phillies have dropped 4 in a row, let's salvage a win and stay in contention for the 2-seed!
  22. EV batteries outlive the vehicles. The current generation will still retain 70%-80% of capacity after 15 years and will continue functioning well beyond that. When the cars are junked the batteries are going to get pulled out of the vehicles and moved to grid storage, where they are still incredibly useful even at half their original capacity. Batteries banks are going to allow us to eventually get to a near 100% wind+solar grid since they solve the main problem with those sources (the lack of sun+wind at night).
  23. There will surely be incremental gains prior to then. Most of the new models are nearr or above 300 miles and a few are cracking 400 miles. I have a 2023 Volvo XC-40 which has 223 mile range (although in summer it gets at least 250). The 2024 model is listed at 250-290. That's why I leased it! And the Chinese cars are far ahead of that already.
  24. I guess Adames won't be pitching today then.
  25. I would be shocked if we finish ahead of the Dodgers, they've had a bit of a skeleton lineup lately and will likely turn on the jets in September. Even with Philly I think we won't get help from them in September, we'll have to rattle off an extended hot streak to finish ahead of them.
