  1. With a runner on 3rd, I think besides maybe Hart and Fielder, I'd most like to have Counsell up there. He's almost always gets the run in. I don't know what possessed Counsell to try that bunt with two strikes. Yost didn't call that. It's only Counsell's fault for that situation, I don't blame Yost at all.
  2. Fukudome would be an exciting addition, but I don't know if we can afford the risk if he is a bust.
  3. The Brewers are not talented enough to win more than 85 games. Look at our team. We have inconsistent starting pitching, a bullpen that has blown the most leads in baseball, and an offense that is too dependent on home runs and can't manufacture runs. I think Yost has done a great job to get this team where it is. Yes, the Cardinals have overachieved this year. But they underachieved last year during the regular season. They barely made the playoffs and failed during the stretch run, nearly choking the division to the Reds. I also know they have had a tough year, but they got back into the race before falling apart again. They still have as much talent as the Brewers. They will still be favorites next year. Taking one of the youngest teams in baseball nearly into the playoffs is a bigger accomplishment than following up an 83-win season with a veteran ballclub. Yost will get his extension and he deserves it. Anyone who jumps ship because of it won't be missed.
  4. I don't care if it's 80 and sunny, it should be closed the rest of the year and playoffs. The Brewers play better with it closed and it will also make it louder and give us more of a home field advantage. Only open it if Bud forces us to (see Houston, 2005).
  5. How many games has the bullpen cost them? Considering the number of close leads that they have held onto, the net loss has to be about 3-5 games or so, mostly consisting of Aquino, Spurling, and Balfour meltdowns. Cordero and Turnbow combined to save at least 10 games that we could have/should have lost.
  6. 1. There have been plenty of wins this year where I thought Yost made the wrong decisions. 2. There have been plenty of losses this year where Yost made the right decisions. When the pitching tanked in July/August, there were way more of #2, and Yost ended up getting blamed because reliever after reliever failed.
  7. The unknown.
  8. It's great to see the fan support on the road. Back around 1999 or 2000, we took a trip down to Cinergy Field (when the outfield part was already torn down) to see the Brewers. There were probably only about 10 Brewers fans out of 35,000. The turnout in Minnesota was great as well, and I'm sure it contributed to the Brewers winning the Reds and the Twins road series, despite their terrible road record. I can't wait to see the atmosphere at the games at MP this weekend. Just got my tickets for September 29th and section 404 was the best that was left for the terrace.

  10. I'm happy with the level of play on the homestand, but they seriously need to win on the next road trip. Or at least go .500.
  11. Russell, I miss you almost as much as Bob Hamelin.
  12. He seems to have good stuff, but I would hate to see him blow a game like Balfour did, especially at home, where he would most certainly get booed. However, I would also rather see him in a close game than Linebrink at this point. So I guess I would be fine with him pitching the 7th in a close game.
  13. Everything about this team is fine, except the starting pitching. It is junk. At this point, we may as well start Zach Jackson, Manny Parra, and CV. It can't get any worse. I watched the first inning tonight and turned the game off, already well aware of the result. Our only hope is if we sweep the Cubs series, and I can't see how that possibly could happen.
  14. This is disappointing because I have been happy with the way the team has played lately. The offense is clicking well, the bullpen has been more effective, and the only thing missing is the starting pitching. I can't find a way to blame Yost for this. The middle of the rotation has failed us. Gallardo is not Sheets. Yost will and should be back next year even if the team finishes under .500
  15. Latest update: Dean is now a Cat. 3 with 125 mph max sustained winds It's just too early to tell whether it will hit the US coast or not, but if I lived anywhere on the Texas coast, I would start preparing today just in case. However, it looks like Jamaica is going to be directly hit on Sunday morning, barring some dramatic change in the projected path. LINK
  16. This is the best Brewers team I have ever seen in my life and they have the best chance of making the playoffs. Get the playoff tickets!
  17. The Cubs and Brewers can't play in the first round since they are in the same division. Therefore, if they both make it and the Brewers win the division, the Cubs (WC) would get the team with the best record in the NL and the Brewers would get the other division winner--most likely AZ or SD.
  18. I agree that the place was a dump--and after the ballpark building boom, there is no place for a ballpark like that in the 21st century. However...I still liked the place. -Bernie's slide was awesome and the new one really needs to be replaced. This would go a long way toward erasing the nostalgia. -I liked feeling a part of a select group of fans who were crazy about the Brewers no matter how they played--now I overhear people talking Brewers everywhere. -The scoreboard was terrible, which was why I loved it -Back then, losing 9-0 was much more fun, because it didn't really matter anyway if they won or lost, that wasn't the point as much as today, when we boo Turnbow for giving up one run and such Most of all, though, the place reminds me of my childhood--deciding to head out to the ballpark with Dad and my brother only an hour before the game started and still getting a good seat for cheap--and always being in awe of how big it was and how green the grass was--and the feeling, with Miller Park in the background, that someday 1982 would be overshadowed.
  19. Vargas' success and Capuano's lack of success lately have as much to do with run support as anything else. However, the Brewers are 12 games over .500 when Claudio takes the mound and 4 games under when anyone else does, which isn't a fluke. Vargas does what a starting pitcher is supposed to do in today's game--he gets through 5 or 6 innings with 4 or fewer runs--almost every time.
  20. I've played around with schedules before and found that the best way to avoid the Rockies issue is to move the Diamondbacks to the AL and put them in a division with the Rockies, Royals, and Rangers. Under this plan, the Devil Rays would also have to switch to the NL. I also think Las Vegas is a market which the MLB should move into instead of another Midwestern team. Then... NL North Milwaukee Chi Cubs Cardinals Reds NL East Mets Phillies Nationals Pirates NL South Marlins Braves Astros Devil Rays NL West Dodgers Giants Padres Las Vegas (exp) -- AL North Tigers Twins Indians White Sox AL South D'backs Royals Rockies Rangers AL East Yankees Red Sox Orioles Blue Jays AL West Portland (exp) LA Angels Mariners Athletics
  21. I don't understand how either can be judged on one outing. Chris Saenz had a career ERA of 0.00 after one outing, so maybe we should have kept him? Seriously, it seems clear that Parra will be better in the long run, but Balfour is the right choice right now so that Parra can get starts in Nashville.
  22. To "fix" the Brewers, start winning on the road.
  23. I'll enter too!!!
  24. Rain chance is up to 90% for tonight, mainly between 7 PM and 4 AM. The storms may hold off until after the fireworks, but it will be close. Forecast
  25. Not looking good for Gallardo. If he fails next time out, maybe they should switch him back into the rotation and put Bush/Vargas in the pen?
