  1. Apparently this was a typo and he didn't actually test positive. Oh well, we'll get him sooner or later.
  2. I feel for Hoffman, but being a closer for that many years means that you are involved in almost every close loss that your team suffers. Of course, it's better than being Brad Lidge, that Pujols home run might still be in orbit.
  3. Great article. I was also at the game...checking the Badgers score on my cell phone every 5 minutes. I was going through the emotions at the time, as I saw all the Padres on the top step of the dugout, waiting to storm the field in celebration. I expect Gwynn Jr. will make his way to the Padres eventually and will be loved, but he will always have to deal with the implications of that hit--which he should be very proud of!
  4. I don't even want to see what happens if Sheets loses on Opening Day...
  5. I don't mind pennies after seeing the Euros. 1 cent, 2 cents, 5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents, 1 euro, 2 euro. That's 8 different types of coins. However, tax is already included in most purchases, so you don't have to deal with the ones under 10 very often. After dealing with change for a couple of years, I pulled out a buffalo nickel from about 1905 and a few pennies from 1930-1950. It's surprising how many older coins are still in circulation.
  6. MVP 2005 was great, but it was MVP 2004 when Chad Moeller was the team leader with a whopping 65 HR. My favorite game in MVP 2005 was when Ben Sheets was one out away from throwing a no-hitter against the Blue Jays...and I blew it.
  7. Student sections on the 2nd tier go all the way over to 210.
  8. First post in the drunk thread! Had my first fishbowl at Wando's also--but maybe having some of the second one was a bad idea...
  9. Board Member 1: I've never heard of half of these guys and the ones I do know are way past their prime. Charlie Donovan: Most of these guys never had a prime. Board Member 2: This guy here is dead. Rachel Phelps: Cross him off then.
  10. East: Mets (1) Phillies (2) Braves (8) Nationals (14) Marlins (16) Central: Cubs (5) Brewers (6) Reds (10) Astros (11) Cardinals (12) Pirates (15) West: Rockies (3) Dodgers (4) Padres (7) Diamondbacks (9) Giants (13) The West is going to be an exciting division
  11. Some comments: Detroit was surprisingly nice...and this was before they made the playoffs. I recommend taking a trip there, if you can get tickets this year. Can't argue with PNC being the best, the ballpark is beautiful and the food was great as well. However, Camden Yards had the best and cheapest food ($6 for a sandwich, side, and pickle) and parking ($10 for preferred) out of any place I had been to. Say what you want about the Orioles management, but the stadium experience was superb. I have to agree, the ushers at GABP were very nice. I also enjoyed the open-air upper concourses. Yankee Stadium was awful, that place only has the history and nothing else. Haven't been to New Busch yet, but the fans were great at the old one. I've also found Twins fans to be knowledgeable and friendly. It was interesting to see that the crowd at the Metrodome on a Friday night was mostly families instead of college students like you would find at Miller Park. Avoid US Cellular Field. However, in terms of total experience, you can't go wrong with Miller Park.
  12. For now it's "free money". However, the uncontrolled government spending, inflation, and the declining value of the dollar will continue to make $500 much less valuable than it used to be.
  13. There couldn't have been any salt on the Madison roads today. They were all completely snow covered, despite the sun shining directly on them all day. Even Johnson and University were terrible and there were cars sliding everywhere. They finally got plowed/salted sometime this evening.
  14. Braun's numbers stunned me last year. I'll predict Braun will put up about the same numbers as last year but in 150 games this time. I will also suggest that Corey Hart may have a statistically better year than Braun. Too many candidates for disappointing pitcher of the year. Gallardo is still too young to be an ace next year, I predict he finishes about .500 with an ERA around 4. Hopefully he proves me wrong.
  15. I don't want to turn on the TV to any sports channel for the next 3 weeks.
  16. Maybe we should move Prince Fielder to catcher. He'll be the best offensive catcher in baseball history and as a team player, I'm sure he'll call a good game. Plus, he'll never lose a play at the plate. To top it off, Jason Kendall has some experience playing 1B...
  17. If that is built, it will be the most unique, coolest-looking stadium in MLB. It looks like the roof is designed to look like a sailboat and I imagine that the roof material will be canvas-like instead of a bulky, expensive steel roof. The major issue is that it will probably be very hot in there, despite their "climate cooling" methods described in the article. I really hope it gets built, there are baseball fans in Tampa Bay and Orlando and they need this in order to make baseball trendy again.
  18. I can see the Kohl Center outside of my window but I haven't seen a game yet this year thanks to the BTN. I know more about this year's Marquette team. Fortunately, there is the big game tomorrow night.
  19. While it's true that Moto is mediocre, Estrada is also mediocre at best. Fair deal. I wish we could have Doug Davis back.
  20. I used to be opposed to replay but after seeing several important important calls go the wrong way, especially on Home Runs/Fan interference, it seems like a good idea to implement this. It isn't taking power away from the umpires, as it is very difficult for them (in the infield) to see what is going on by the fences. There would probably only be about 1 replay review every 5-10 games or so. As for the other rules, like limiting visits to the mound and the number of times the batter can step out of the box, I think they are all great and anything that speeds up the game should be considered.
  21. The Rockies made a big mistake with this one. They should have done a lottery, but instead, Red Sox Nation will probably be invading Coors field next weekend and they have thousands of angry Rockies fans. Losing a lottery is much easier to stomach than spending hours trying to get through on a computer to buy tickets.
  22. Too bad for Reds fans, it looked like they were heading in the right direction.
  23. A Colorado-Cubs NLCS would be just like 2003--the "who are these guys" Marlins/Rockies vs. the Cubs. A Rockies/D'backs NLCS would be a ratings disaster. The Diamondbacks have no fans (expect Wrigley South tonight with empty seats) and the Rockies have a small fan base. I really hope the Rockies make it to the World Series.
  24. Get them here Bad Karma, hopefully?
  25. This kind of thing only seems to show up when the Brewers are losing.
