  1. Yeah. Not sure it makes that big of a deal. Guerra needs to make the roster next spring. If not, he'll have to be waived. Injuries do happen so its nice to have the insurance, but I think the Brewers would go with youth if they need it next year. Burnes, F.Peralta, Ortiz, Wilkerson, Perrin, T.Williams will all be available.
  2. Ramirez and Ventura are the two I would definitely keep and would add them to the 40 to protect them. It would be nice to see if Nolin can return. They paid for two years of medical bills, hopefully that counts for something.
  3. No mention of defense other than "an average arm". Also a suggestion that he might end up at 2nd base, lol. A reminder that relying solely on the written word of another should never lead one to draw sweeping conclusions. Not a knock on Ben Badler, it's just shows you never know what years of growth can bear. That article also shows what a crapshoot those international signings are. 6 years later and I have never heard of most of those names, even the high priced signings. A few are big names (e.g. Carlos Martinez). Look at how many names are listed for the Cubs and I think only one is a prospect still (Candelerio) who was just traded for Wilson.
  4. Purely speculative on my part, but I would guess the PTBNL is a guy that needs to be protected from the Rule 5 draft and is not someone we have room for (or want to protect). Someone like Coulter, T.Taylor, Wren, Betencourt, Rijo or maybe even A. Ventura. That would be more than enough value for a few months rental of Walker assuming we are still taking on a significant portion of his remaining salary. This team has so much depth that I would be furious we gave up a top 30 player. Our 30-50 are better than most teams 20-30.
  5. Below are stats from the last 28 days: Barnes, 7.45 ERA, 1.072 OPS against Drake 7.27, .945 OPS Torres 3.00 ERA, .599 OPS All have pitched 10 IP in that period, so small sample alert. Barnes could use some time in the minors to get things straightened out OR just rest his arm. And as pointed out can avoid burning an option if recalled in Sept. I was one who was screaming back in May to get rid of Drake, Torres, and Hughes so I understand your argument. However, I'm starting to understand how difficult it is to evaluate RPs. A full season of 50-60 IP is really a small sample. Hughes has really turned it around so that is clearly a lesson learned for me. I think the Brewers are just trying to retain as much controllable talent as they can. Sending Barnes down for a while so they can hang on to Drake or Torres until Sept rosters expand makes some sense. Both Drake and Torres' numbers look bad this year, but inext year they could be drastically better. I like Drake's 9.9 K/9 this year so clearly there is something to build on. Torres was very reliable last year. Then again, neither are getting younger and Torres is arby eligible. I have to believe they will try to avoid DFA both of these guys and that may mean Barnes to the minors when Chase gets back and avoid burning Guerr's option.
  6. I agree this is a likely possibility, but who would the Brewers send down to make room? Would they send down Barnes? He has struggled for a while now. Minor league hitters might just be the right thing for him (as long as it is not in CS). Otherwise they could DFA Drake or Torres, both of whom have been bad. Although they have given them a chance for this long, it would be surprising to let them go so close to Sept.
  7. Gotta believe Roegner will get promoted soon. Drake Owenby ("the other Drake") has some great numbers in A-ball as well. 12.6 K/9 to 1.9 BB/9, 1.86 ERA. Dominant, but small sample so far.
  8. Biloxi is listing Gatewood as a 3B on the roster page. I hope this means he will at least split time there between 3B/1B. Biloxi does not really have a true 3B, as Ortega and Betancourt have been getting the bulk of time there so no one is blocking him.
  9. He was hit 267 times in his career. Good for 4th all time! Surprisingly, Biggio beat him with 285 career clunks. Baylor also has the 8th highest in a season with 35. This was in the time before the armor that players use now. I remember watching him. He would just stand there and take it. Never moved. Tough guy. Baseball Reference lists him at 6-1, 190. I just remember him being a huge guy. That size is nothing compared to today's players. Just a different time...
  10. Toby going for extra credit and posted his top 100 prospects! How were you able to keep it to just 100? I'll be honest, I made a list of 50 then expanded it to 75 and had are hard time keeping it to that. This is a deep system. Out of curiosity, why did you put Isan at #3? Ortiz at 12? I also find it interesting to see many people putting Trent Clark ahead of Cory Ray, which goes against most of the national prospect polls. Ray has tremendous talent but Trent is just outplaying him at the same level and 2 years younger. I may have to rethink my list.
  11. Woodruff was very lucky yesterday. He did not have his control. I'm hoping it is just 1st start jitters but it has been a while since I've seen a pitcher miss his marks by so far. He got a couple of strikeouts on pitches that were suppose to be way outside and were thrown inside. Pina was fantastic even getting a glove on those pitches. Things could have gone very badly with all the baserunner's he allowed.
  12. I'm surprised so many people are down on Trent Clark. He's 20 at High A ball and has a 755 OPS, 29-34 in SB. That's pretty good for the league especially for his age. He's 2 years younger than Cory Ray and is performing better.
  13. Susac may not be protected but I doubt it will be because of Vogt. I think Vogt will be non-tendered. He is arby eligible and those all star appearances may drive his salary too high next year. Plus his inability to throw out runners is not a endearing feature.
  14. 1. Brinson 2. Hader 3. Woodruff 4. Ortiz 5. Ray 6. Hiura 7. I.Diaz 8. T.Clark 9. Burnes 10. Dubon 11. F. Peralta 12. Phillips 13. M.Harrison 14. Gatewood 15. Nottingham 16. M.Feliciano 17. Ponce 18. Bickford 19. Supak 20. Erceg 21. T. Williams 22. Diplan 23. Pennington 24. Medieros 25. Tristen Lutz 26. Stokes 27. C. Herrera 28. KJ Harrison 29. B. Derby 30. J.Lopez 31. C.Lemons 32. D. Williams 33. Coulter 34. A. Ventura 35. T. Webb 36. Kirby 37. Wang 38. N.Ramirez 39. Lara 40. Orimoloye 41. Griep 42. G. Garcia 43. B. Webb 44. Brendan Murphy 45. Z. Brown 46. T.Taylor 47. Wren 48. Z. Clark 49. McClanahan 50. N. Pierre
  15. Unless if teams try to emulate the Brewers rebuilding, who regularly picked up older pitchers. The fact that Wilkerson has not been called up already, says to me the Brewers don't value him that high. Espino and Scahill have gotten many chances over Wilkerson. I agree it is possible that he could be picked, but like you said, just not a slam dunk.
  16. If stearns used a double negative, "...aren't not moving...", then maybe he is going to the rotation.
  17. Why has Colorado Springs been maintaining a 27 man roster? Per their website they have 16 pitchers and 11 hitters on thei roster.
  18. I'd like to see Hader in the rotation. I know that they are watching his innings, but Hader would get 10-11 starts if he entered the rotation now. Assuming 6 innings per start, that is 66 innings added to his 67 current innings. That would be right around his 126 innings he pitched last year. Seems like he would be our best opportunity to win this year.
  19. Stearns isn't going to say "because we plan to DFA him in a few days and we are not worried about losing him".
  20. I highlighted Zach Clark, Dallas Carroll and Roscetti. because they are old for thier league but doing well. I'd like to see what they can do at the next level. Glad Stokes was promoted but hopefully nothing major to Taylor. Let's see some of these other promotions happen.
  21. Yeah, this is a boring debate. We are in a race for first. Maybe we can all agree with that. Also don't understand the rationalization that we were going to lose Cordell in the Rule 5 draft anyways. There are at least 10 players that could be dropped before Cordell and we don't have that many players we need to protect. Having an extra 40 man spot at the end of the year is great, but if that is just so we can protect Yadier or Espino... its not a huge benefit. Just for the record: We have Sogard and Swarzak becoming FA, Peralta, Espino, Yadier, Drake, Torres, Vogt, and Susac + 1 open spot before I would drop Cordell.
  22. Anyone on the 40 man is a potential callup. My favorites would be Susac, Broxton, Jungman, Webb and Woodruff. Yadier would be a decent backup but his 40 man spot is in jeopardy, same with Espino. Lopez and T. Williams would be nice to see but might not happen. As for adds to the 40 man: Wang, Dubon, A. Ventura are options if we can open up 40 man spots.
  23. Be nice to see some OF getting promoted. Stokes needs more playing time and has shown he deserves to go to AA. To make room, I'd like to see what Coulter can do in AAA. Zack Clark to A+ to spell a very weak hitting team. Wisconsin could also use Dallas Carroll and Roscetti. Nate Griep to AA?
  24. Steep price for a rental but there was no room for Cordell. Also frees a 40 man spot for the Rule 5 draft. Does this spell the end for Torres?
