The Brewers did slash about $18 million from their payroll today by declining the options on Braun, Gyorko and Sogard. They could also save some more money by non-tendering guys like Knebel and Arcia. So if they are high on Kim they could make the money work and it would fill a big need at 3B.
Wouldn’t bother me one bit if we moved on from Arcia, moved Urias to 2B, made Hiura a full time DH and got a new SS and 3B. Easier said then done, I know. But this infield needs an overhaul.
The salary estimates are depressing. If a $90 million dollar payroll is true, Stearns will have to be pretty creative this offseason in remaking the offense. I would trade Hader for a young 1B or 3B and then take it from there. Maybe you can sign one guy to fill whatever position you didn't with the Hader trade.
A Hiura trade would be very surprising. I guess I could maybe see him be included in a bigger, blockbuster type trade (with Hader). A Yelich, Woodruff or Burnes trade would be downright shocking.
Was thinking the same thing. They’ve already played three games and there’s hardly been any news. I hadn’t realized they even started playing games yet. Kinda strange.
Hader to the Padres for Luis Patino and Luis Campusano. Doesn't solve the 1B or 3B issues but gets us two guys who can contribute right away. Fair trade for both teams I think.
When was the last time a team traded a huge package of players for a relief pitcher? I just wonder if GM's these days are more leery than ever trading away big time prospects for relievers knowing how volatile they are? Even the elite ones like Hader. Maybe we missed our chance at a huge return.
I don’t like giving up on Urias so soon but I really like that Mets proposal. In addition to that trade I would go out and try and sign Semien to play SS. I could excited about a rebuilt infield that includes Davis, McNeil and Semien. Trade Arcia for a bullpen arm or some lottery tickets.
Trade Hader to the Twins for Kirilloff and Luis Arraez. Kirilloff becomes your starting 1B and Arraez can play 2B (with Hiura as DH) or 3B. Arraez has little to no power but adds some much needed OBP.
I know Bauer is a pipe dream but it's fun to think about a possible rotation of him, Woodruff and Burns. If he takes a one year deal like he says he will, are we thinking he'll get over 35 million?
