I would be all over a Hader for Riley swap. If we don’t get Donaldson which I know is highly unlikely anyway, I’m hoping it’s the Braves which would make Riley more expendable. A core of Yelich, Hiura, Urias and Riley would be sweet.
Sign Donaldson for around $25 mil/year and a lefty 1B like Thames for around $5 mil and call it good with free agency. Make trades if needed but I would feel pretty good going into next year with that team.
This is an interesting signing as we still need to fill 1B, 3B and maybe one more starting pitcher. I think we have about $30 million more to go to match last year's opening day payroll so should be interesting to see how everything shakes out going forward.
I have faith that if Stearns makes a trade with the Yankees he won't get screwed over. There seems to be a lot of talk amongst the national media regarding the Brewers and Yankees so we'll see what happens.
We do not have the prospects to acquire elite starting pitching and this regime has repeatedly shown they will not spend large amounts of money on pitching. Whether people like that strategy or not, it is what it is.
Anderson had 90 strikeouts in 176 innings pitched last year but had a respectable ERA in the tough AL. Every time I wonder if Stearns knows what he's doing the move usually ends up working out and they make the playoffs. So I'm going to reserve judgment for now. Was hoping they'd go after Ryu or Keuchel but maybe they plan on using that money on Donaldson or Castellanos.
I have been going through the Yankees top prospects lists and just can't get excited about anybody except for maybe Dominguez who is only 16 years old. Frazier and Andujar would have been really nice targets prior to last year. I just don't see how the Yankees and Brewers can match up on a Hader trade. The Dodgers on the other hand...
Good point on the Angels. I wonder if the White Sox would be another possible team since they’re in win-now mode all of a sudden and have the prospects to get a deal done.
I just don’t see how a trade with the Yankees can happen. They have such a crappy minor league system and no one to trade from their big league club that would make sense. Unless I’m missing somebody? Andujar would be nice but he’s coming back from shoulder surgery last May.
Lol it’s all good. We both agree that it’s pretty simple with Hader - if you get a monster offer for him you listen. If not, you keep the best reliever in baseball.
