I was actually very happy with Odorizzi's performance this year. His 4.5ish ERA was the result of one really bad outing. Otherwise, it might have been below three. He also had a very nice strikeout to walk ratio (43:9) in 47 IP while allowing just 3 homeruns. I'm excited to see how he does in Appleton next year.
Trade Hart and Hardy in the offseason for pitching. Move Gamel to RF. Resign Cameron and don't resign Kendall. Let Rivera and Lucroy battle it out for starting catcher in spring training. 1. Escobar SS 2. Weeks 2b 3. Braun LF 4. Fielder 1b 5. McGehee 3b 6. Cameron CF 7. Gamel RF 8. Rivera C (splits time with Lucroy) Bench: Counsell/Gerut/Cattalanatto/Lucroy//Heether
Didn't you hear Melvin's interview last night? The Brewers are trying to win as many games as possible. So clearly, Counsell gives the Brewers a much greater chance to win than Gamel. Honestly though, I've given up on trying to figure out what's going on with Gamel. What I do know is that Melvin and Macha must not think too highly of Mat right now. Otherwise, he'd be starting more than one game every two weeks.
I think bucks2281 means that since Butler is pitching out of the bullpen tonight, it probably means he won't get a start. Oh well, at least he got into a game. And nice to see a Gamel sighting.
Well according to the blog, Parra is feeling better and might pitch again. Narveson would start on schedule and Parra would take Gallardo's spot in the rotation. Butler would continue to rot on the bench doing nothing.
Witrado's latest blog leads me to believe Butler won't even throw one pitch the rest of the year. I guess they would rather see what Chris Narveson has rather than Butler. What a shocker. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/59946327.html
3rd base is McGehee's job to lose right now, but what I want to know is what will happen if Gamel outplays Casey in spring training. Or what happens if they put up equal or similar numbers in spring training? Does Gamel still open the season in Nashville and rot down there for the whole year?
Starting Burns over Butler in a game would just be the epitome of a season filled with extremely bizarre decision-making. I really hope they give Butler a start or two down the stretch.
I'm hoping Butler gets the start if Parra can't go, but I'm sure Macha and Melvin will go with Narveson or some other scrub. Edit: Well, I just found this tidbit from Witrado: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/59394722.html
Same with Counsell too. We have to see if the young kid can play, don't we? Seriously though, can't McGehee move over to 2nd base for a few games and let Gamel play at least a few games before the end of the year?
Wisconsin's pitching staff is going to be loaded, but I would also have Arnett start the season there. If he starts out hot, I would bump him up quickly along with Heckathorn if he is off to a good start too. The Schafer/Cain situation is going to be really interesting. I think ultimately Cain will end up playing CF in Nashville to open the season with Schafer in Huntsville. I agree with Colby in that they probably want both to stay in CF. The SS/3B/2B situation in Huntsville will also be interesting. You have Lawrie, Brewer, Wheeler, and possibly Taylor Green all vying for a spot in there somewhere. Who knows what they're going to do with Brewer.
Disappointing end to the season, but I'm already looking forward to the '10 Huntsville team. Schafer, Gindl, Farris, Rivas, Anundsen, Rogers, and possibly Lawrie. Should be a lot of fun to follow!
If you're not going to play Gamel in September when you're out of playoff contention, then when are you going to play him? The way this organization has handled our prospects this year is mind boggling.
According to TH, McGehee will get the majority of the starts the rest of the way and Macha says that "Gamel will get a couple of games." McGehee has had a great season, but it's going to stink watching Gamel ride the bench the rest of the season. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/57827077.html
Nashville is officialy eliminated from playoff contention as Memphis wins the second game of their doubleheader. Now let's bring up Gamel, Heether, Salome, etc.
